I pulled away from him first, my chest rising and falling rapidly, my lips still buzzing from how Adrien kissed me like he’d been waiting forever for this moment. My gaze flicked toward the glass doors leading to the hotel corridor, half-expecting to see a security guard’s flashlight piercing the dark or...worse, one of the staff with a polite cough and a raised eyebrow...or probably a look of horror once they realized what us step-brothers were doing.
"A–are we... really sure we won’t get caught?" I whispered, my voice trembling somewhere between nervous laughter and genuine fear.
Adrien didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he rested his forehead against my shoulder, inhaling deeply like the scent of chlorine and my skin was the only thing keeping him grounded. His arms tightened around my waist, pulling our wet bodies together in the water, every bit of contact feeling calculated and almost desperate.
I could feel his heart racing against my ribs, could sense the slight tremor running through him that had nothing to do with the chilly water.
The flashes of that earlier dream returned in my mind, harsh voices, accusing looks, and Ethan walking away, and that fear tightened my grip for a moment before I forced myself to relax.
He lifted his head just enough to place a soft, lingering kiss on the hollow of my throat.
"No one’s coming," he murmured against my damp skin. "This wing is for VIPs only, governors, presidents, vice presidents, the kind of people who spend more on privacy than what some countries spend on defense. It’s pretty much a ghost town until one of them decides to show up. We’ve got the place to ourselves for months."
I exhaled shakily, trying to absorb that thought. "Still feels like we’re tempting fate."
Adrien chuckled softly and started to float backward in the water, coaxing me with him until my back hit the smooth mosaic wall. Then he enclosed me there, his beautiful arms framing my head, forearms resting on the tile, his body so close that every breath we took brushed against each other’s lips.
