Rose Blumen ~ Exogignesthai

572. New lands and skies, 5

(Rose)

The blades of the helicopter began to turn. The engine’s noises became rapidly loud enough to spook every critter around.

The helicopter overrun with plants, Blume herself, scattered leaves and petals, just warming up before the real flight. Blume was infinitely careful. She made her tests and took her time, giving me and my child enough as well.

She was born less than a month ago, but she was made what is essentially an adult body. She doesn’t speak yet therefore, but is already able to walk by herself, eat, clean herself after going to the toilets, and even gather things around to play with.

Nokarlık is a child in her demeanour and most aspects of her development. But one that learns fast, and a body that is already strong.

Strong enough to push me around when we play or practice one thing or another.

Although words are still hollow between us, communication is already well settled there. She understands a little who she is and who I am.

She’s puzzled and curious about everything else.

She cries less now that she can walk, eat, and relieve herself by herself. And also because her brain is burning with excitement, curiosity and a desire to learn. She pierces holes with her eyes, looking at anything and nothing, learning everything she can. A leaf. Another leaf.

A third leaf with a dry pale stain on it.

She’s at that age where everything is fascinating. And she rushes into intense observation and study over the simplest of things when she has time.

I gathered what we could carry to the helicopter as Blume mentioned she was ready.

Patience is her. I can feel her age and some wilt in the way she speaks. I hold her flowers close to my chest softly.

She and I, we have aged together, and faster...

We regret nothing, together.

We’re one and the same.

Two sides and perspectives of a union, far deeper than any marriage could have ever been.

R – I love you Blume.

B – I love you too Rose.

R – Nokarlık? It’s time to go!

Blume giggles. Her name amuses her.

B – You didn’t call her Nacht nor Nuit, but that boils down to the same.

R – It is more fit to this day and age. And she is a beautiful child of the night after all...

I chose a name in modern European language rather than the ones that were before. But it still means something like the darkest of nights, only in a charming and beautiful way.

Her name has an underlying meaning of enjoying stargazing, and that the darkest nights have that beauty to offer, beyond simple cold darkness and lack of visibility.

The root word still is Night. I thought it’s fair. Nokaranlık, or Nokarlık.

The child is afraid of the loud helicopter noise and vibrations as it’s starting to move. I hold her tight, seatbelts on.

This will be something we probably will be able to enjoy again and will remember.

We feel very heavy for a short moment, and a vertigo, as the loud and heavy vehicle suddenly begins to rise and move above the ocean.

The doors being open, the wind and sights are fantastic. Nok’s eyes are beaming, open as wide as she can, gobbling the scenery.

We fly over the beach that has been our home all this time, and an abandoned tiny battlefield.

We see the jungle, the burnt part, spreading in the distance like a mossy mushroom.

We see the lush and healthy jungle covering the landscape to the horizon, shaping the land between rivers and distant mountains.

We stay there, hovering in the sky for a little while, letting Nokarlık enjoy her fill of the scenery of her birth land.

We give her some time before heading further north. Although I request a detour first.

So we head south instead, toward the mountains and their cloudy mists.

We return to the Amazonian falls. The great falls are a sight she will never forget.

So that one day, once upon a distant time, if she wishes to return to the place where she was born, she will know.

She will remember where to go and what to look for.

She marks the views of the white falls deep inside her eyes. I think she forgot to blink for a while but I let her enjoy the sights.

We fly over the organic sea, lush green as well. We fly through the clouds and over the ocean, darker blue and turquoise. Then we pass a last time over the burnt area and leave it to slowly disappear behind in the distance as we head north.

We leave this now abandoned land in the distance behind, with all that was good and bad.

The helicopter carries us for a few hours of flight at higher speeds in the clearest of skies, over the most gorgeous of landscapes. Nokarlık is dazed.

I can see her mind becoming fuzzy with the overabundant stimulation. She can’t process it all.

We fly above a dead city covered with a thick yellow plume and shroud that looks sulphuric. I tell my child these are toxic, and common for the last cities to disappear. She doesn’t get everything I’m saying obviously, but she already understands some of it.

We fly above another city that sunk into the ground and was covered by the sea and the jungle with time. This one is probably older. I teach her everything I can think of.

We notice sharp landscape oddities, far in the distance. Ravines with purple glows. Trees as tall as human towers here or there. They were here too in the end...

We see a whirlpool in a lake alongside a river. Nokarlık points at things and vocalises some sounds that basically mean, what is that? What is that?

She laughs too. I explain what she’s pointing at. She listens, or hears my voice at least. And we repeat this all along.

We fly a while longer, blissfully.

Someday, I will tell you about your mother. Someday, I will tell you about the blood on my hands.

Before that day comes, I will have you hear over and over again how much I love you.

I’m becoming chummy again.

B – You’ve always been chummy and emotional.

R – I learnt that from you little daiûa. How long have you dreamt of meeting me for real again?

B – Ooh... Good point. I’ve grown so much since then.

I smile. I bet my face is showing some wrinkles because my child grabs my cheeks to play with them.

Cheeky one already. She laughs loudly, pulling on my skin to make me do faces.

In the distance appears a wide ruined city that looks peaceful enough.

No toxic cloud sticking to things, and no obvious domain of a being-like-her.

A wide square where nothing has grown taller than shrubs becomes the landing spot.

We’re blowing dust and dirt away as we land. Some animal bones are dry and scattered around. It’s actually quite rare to find bones like that, puzzling me.

Here’s a weird looking stone for Nokarlık to study already, as she barely set foot off the machine.

Around us, a jungle of decrepit buildings replaces the ocean and the trees. The air is different, the landscape all foreign. Nokarlık looks around, amazed. So much more to discover. This will be fascinating!

All is beautiful to her.
