Rose Blumen ~ Exogignesthai

536. Joy, 2

(Rose)

Our merry race goes as the mountains where I expected us to land never seem to get closer.

And we are flying fast. The claws of rock we pass by always confirm our velocity.

My hands and feet may be frostbitten already, but I’m enjoying this too much.

Feeling like a bird, racing with my sister through and above the verdant lands of the gleaming city. It’s an unthinkable dream come true.

And flying freely like that is a sensation hard to describe.

It’s an immense pleasure.

I dive and fly above one of the dragons, taking a closer look along.

The creature looks like a giant bat indeed, looking definitely like a mammal. Neither a bird nor a reptile.

There’s a small population of them. This means they are a new species as well, rather than lonesome beings-like-her that changed their body willingly. It chirps like a dog, surprised by me.

I flap the other pair of wings with Blume’s help. The thin darker wings begin to hum and a stream of antigravitational pull surrounds me and my wings. The air flows differently then, and I can regain altitude flapping the regular wings like any light bird.

It would take surreal muscles otherwise for our mass and normal weight.

Shades vanish from my mind as I resume flying with greater speed. I’ve lost to Nightmare now as I satisfied my curiosity toward this dragon.

Night is already so far away, but I can see her doing a circle or another form of loop in the sky, to make sure we see hear and head into the same direction. She’s waiting for me.

She’s changed so much.

R – Have I changed a lot since you first met me?

B – Like night and day.

I laugh heartily at her reply.

She may be right. But right now I regret nothing.

I’m bolting through the sky after Night, almost cawing loud my joy.

The landscapes keep changing below us, always gorgeous turquoises and lush, with various clouds and mist.

The sky is bright under the star light. That radiant star of ours I mean. We’re still quite high and it feels a little brighter up here. It hurts my eyes to gaze at the skies above for too long, even away from it.

For a few seconds with open path ahead, I roll and let myself glide upside down as if I were swimming. I fly on my back to see right in front of me the infinite hole that is space, filling my eyes.

The sight is bittersweet, although it is still nervously quite empty. I’m floating on the edge of the infinite hole beside reality...

It’s bittersweet, in more ways than one.

The sensation of flying that way is a little more exciting though.

But it is too risky to keep for long though. I roll and flap, to resume following my weird sister flying ahead.

Nightmare is so natural at this, obviously. She’s bird at heart. I really believe she’s enjoying it a lot. Having fun creating things that can fly is a thing...

Flying for yourself is a different world out there.

An entirely different world.

I smashed the doors of her world open, once upon a time...

Quite like Blume did for me, on another older time.

~

The world seen from up here is like a painting, rich, vibrant, and somehow giving you a feeling of preciousness, of love even. It feels more full. More varied. More enjoyable.

R – Blume, I think I could get addicted to this way of flying...

By far the nicest I’ve experienced.

There’s no ziggurat or tower of death ahead. No explosion behind. No flames anywhere.

Only the most amazing landscape, all around, all over.

Maybe I should reconsider Nightmare’s offer to give me the body of a bird.

We forget about the race along our long flight as we grow more weary.

We flew over all of Eldorado. We saw deep cliffs with colourful jungles. We saw the volcanic maw that threw out the rock seeds around.

We didn’t get close to it, but seen from above it looked like a regular volcano mostly, rather than anything alive and enormous. But we didn’t go to bother it.

We flew till exhaustion caught up with us. At that point, Nightmare and us simply let ourselves glide peacefully ahead toward the outer slopes on the northern end of this domain.

I loved it. It was incredible.

Nightmare is smiling shamelessly too. I’m sure her human body and human enough brain enjoyed this as much as I did.

R – That was great!

N – Hm!

I brush the tip of her wing with mine as we keep gliding, forcing her to look at my smile. She grinned enough for me to see her teeth glint.

And soon after, the landing spot rushed toward us faster and faster as we got closer. The perception of distance didn’t progress linearly at all!

The landscape grew seemingly faster, as it reduced itself to a slope in front of us while the distant mountain became huge wall ahead.

A few minutes, shortly after, our own shadows appeared in the field along the slopes we headed toward.

We slowed down further, tilting slightly our feathers and wings.

Blume helped me to land by activating the other wings again. A few flaps later, I was kneeling on the ground without hurt.

My legs and knees felt so weak that I just soon lied there on my bottom, unable to stand up. The wings stretched and folded themselves out without my control, with the help of Blume.

Nightmare had troubles standing up too. Her legs were trembling a lot as she managed to walk finally. She wasn’t far from me, but it took her a while to reach me as she was unusually unsteady.

Behind her, the giant black wings she had unequipped were like a dark pine tree in the field. They looked a little unsettling, but still warm to my eyes.

Nightmare was also breathing a little heavily, out of breath from altitude still.

I was still just sitting there, unable to move, although I was still all fuzzy from the flight.

She extended her black hand to me, gently. I slowly rose my greyish looking hand, accepting her help.

My legs managed to hold me. My wings flew off and away, leaving my back suddenly feeling cold.

Nightmare held onto my hand. She was also a little unsteady after all. We helped each other.

She pointed at the summit we could see from here. I nodded.

Slowly, we headed there together.
