Chapter 579 - 19: The Cannon Fodder Daughter and Her Cannon Fodder Dad (Part 19)
Muttering something under his breath, he seemed very concerned and affectionate.
Jiang Lai left with the plate.
While everyone outside was still eating, Jiang Hai was about to taste the two dishes in front of him.
One was called grilled steak, decorated with vegetables beneath and a few slices of carrots on top, intricately arranged into the shape of a bird, looking quite beautiful.
Jiang Hai wanted to take a bite, but the steak was a whole piece, making it impossible to taste.
In the end, he could only try some of the sauce, which tasted pretty good.
"Hmm, not bad."
Shen Yaoyao glanced at Jiang Lai and smiled slightly.
"Then I’ll cut it up and serve it to them right away."
Since there was only one steak, it had to be cut for everyone to try.
Just as Shen Yaoyao was about to take it to the table, Jiang Hai quickly gestured with his hand.
"Don’t rush, serve it alongside Lai Lai’s dish."
As he spoke, he took another big bite, and the crispy sound paired with the aromatic flavor made everyone in the kitchen drool.
One of the sous chefs, unable to resist, leaned in to ask.
"Master Jiang, can I try the last bite?"
Jiang Hai was a bit reluctant, but as the head chef, he couldn’t be petty, so he gave him the last bite.
Seeing the sous chef take a bite, he widened his eyes at Jiang Lai with astonishing admiration in his gaze.
"This...this is so fragrant and delicious! How can there be so much juice in one bite, even though it’s so crispy on the outside, the meat inside is tender and juicy. What kind of meat is this?!"
"Pork, just the tenderloin part."
The other person looked incredulous.
"Can pork taste like this?!"
Everyone nearby was curious yet skeptical, thinking he might be exaggerating—after all, it’s just pork coated with flour and deep-fried, how good could it be?
Jiang Lai directly took another piece out.
"Why don’t you all try it? I’ll serve these."
With two tables in total, Jiang Lai made two plates, cut and plated them, and served them, placing her own specially made dipping sauce by the side, which also smelled incredibly savory.
Shen Yaoyao silently watched everyone from start to finish, finding it amusing.
Really, she almost let out a mocking laugh.
Just because Jiang Lai’s father is Jiang Hai, the head chef, they are flattering and praising this much?
Can it really be that delicious?
Just pork, coated with something like a batter, deep-fried until the outside is overcooked and the inside probably not flavored and fully cooked. As for any juice, it’s likely blood!
In any case, their performance is quite entertaining.
Right now, they’re currying favor with Jiang Hai by praising Jiang Lai. But once the dish is served, let’s see how Jiang Lai handles it.
Even if it’s not tasty, if it upsets anyone’s stomach, she’d love to see how Jiang Lai apologizes!
With that thought, Shen Yaoyao began to urge.
"Hurry up, the dish won’t taste good when cold."
Jiang Hai nodded.
"Right, right, serve both at once."
Shen Yaoyao thought for a moment and continued.
"Uncle, you should go too, after all, these are the dishes we made. If the guests aren’t satisfied, you can explain a bit more to avoid affecting your reputation."
Jiang Hai thought carefully and found it reasonable.
His own reputation was fine, but he should help introduce the two kids more. If they’re both interested in learning culinary skills from him, it wouldn’t hurt to take this opportunity to promote them a bit.
Shen Yaoyao walked behind, bowing her head in silent thought.
If Jiang Hai goes over, he’ll see firsthand how his precious daughter embarrasses herself.
With so much juice as claimed, she’d like to see the guests’ reactions when they find the pork filled with blood.
Serving an undercooked dish could tarnish Jiang Hai’s reputation, thanks to his own daughter!
Two trays, each with a plate of steak and a plate of pork.
After being placed on the table, Jiang Hai, in particular, explained to the factory director and his wife.
"These two apprentices made their signature dishes today to celebrate the director’s wife’s birthday."
As he spoke, the two dishes were already laid out.
Before Jiang Hai could speak, Shen Yaoyao took the initiative.
"The dish I made is from Western cooking methods, using premium beef marinated and pan-fried, complemented with my homemade black pepper dipping sauce, please taste it."
The director’s wife looked at the steak before her, a smile playing on her lips.
It did resemble what she’d had before, and just as she was about to start, Shen Yaoyao approached with a wrapped set of cutlery taken from her bosom.
"Eating with this might give a better flavor."
She learned this from books, knowing foreigners eat with knives and forks. The knife was from Jiang Hai’s set, and she carved the fork herself from wooden sticks.
"I’ve scalded it several times with hot water, feel free to use it."
The director’s wife looked at Shen Yaoyao, intrigued.
"Where did you learn all this?"
"Though I’m from a small place, there’s a saying that goes, ’read ten thousand books and travel ten thousand miles.’ Reading many books naturally makes one know a bit more. But in front of you, it’s still showing off, please don’t mind."
Gentle and polite, knowledgeable yet humble.
The director’s wife liked such a girl, and so ate using the cutlery she was given.
The meat was a bit tough to cut, but after one bite, the director’s wife nodded.
"Quite flavorful, what’s your name?"
Shen Yaoyao was overjoyed inside but remained calm on the outside.
"Shen Yaoyao."
"Hmm, you’re quite thoughtful, the steak is well done."
Shen Yaoyao modestly smiled, her gaze fleetingly met Zhang Shuci’s, who sat beside the director, before quickly looking away.
Zhang Shuci glanced at her before continuing to keep his head down.
While the director’s wife tasted the steak, the director, with nothing else to do, turned his attention to the steaming, fragrant dish before him, distinctly deep-fried, appearing golden and crispy, unlike anything he’d seen before, so he picked a piece right away.
As he took a bite, his eyes lit up, eagerly chewing afterward.
The crisp sound drew the attention of those around.
Looking down, the director saw a clear droplet of juice running down the chopsticks, so he tested dipping it into the sauce beside the dish before taking another bite.
Delicious!
The exterior was crispy enough, while the interior remained tender, with the flavor thoroughly infused, carrying the original meat aroma and mingling with the light, sweet freshness of the dipping sauce.
Such a rich texture and flavor made the director ponder deeply as he popped the remaining bite into his mouth.
The crunching sound couldn’t go unnoticed by others.
"Was this also made by you?"
Seeing him furrowed brows with a serious look, Shen Yaoyao gave Jiang Lai a troubled glance, then cautiously said.
"This was made by my younger sister, using pork."
