264: The Tragic Life of Bianca Vespa

April 13, 1472, Age of the Sea Circle

Two months after being captured by Hannibal Rosward, Bianca was living in Mary Geoise, in the mansion of her captor. Over the past months, she had become the favorite consort of the Rosward patriarch, which meant that her status within the family was not as low as it might otherwise have been, despite being a slave brought from the lower world.

Even so, she was still very far from holding the status of a true, legitimate wife, although that could change if she were to produce suitable descendants for the family.

Bianca believed it was impossible for her to become pregnant, since she had destroyed her captor's fertility with a powerful poison before he could humiliate her for the first time. However, fate was merciless, and today she had discovered in sheer panic that she was pregnant.

"Huff… huff… How can this be possible?" Bianca said in a broken voice, nearly on the verge of a nervous collapse, as she remained kneeling on the grass after suddenly vomiting.

She had not had her period, which was why she had gone to the doctor who worked exclusively for the Rosward family—an "invited guest" from the lower world—to have herself examined for any possible problems.

Her first thought should have been that she was pregnant, but her mind refused to accept it, since that would mean her poison had failed, and that her captor had gotten what he wanted, violating the last mental barrier she clung to in order to keep herself from emotionally collapsing.

The doctor examined her with extreme care and dedication—since his life depended on it—and without much delay reached the conclusion that she was indeed pregnant. With a flattering smile, the physician congratulated her on successfully conceiving the child of a god, but Bianca did not hear his words, as her mind was clouded by confusion and despair.

With all her strength, she managed to leave the doctor's chambers and walked toward one of the mansion's vast gardens, where she finally collapsed onto the ground, vomiting from the revulsion she felt at the idea of bearing a child with her kidnapper. That day, Bianca very seriously contemplated taking her own life, though in the end she could not bring herself to do it.

Despite everything, she still held on to the hope of escaping this horrible place and returning to her family. As long as she remained alive, there would still be hope that such a day might come, no matter how much it felt like nothing more than a fantasy at present.

Moreover, the baby in her womb was innocent. Regardless of the circumstances of its conception, she could not end the life of her own child without giving it the chance to be born. Perhaps another woman might have done so without hesitation, but for her, it was simply impossible.

With a sad gaze and the faint hopes of a better future, Bianca rose to her feet and walked back toward the imposing mansion in the distance. Her days of confinement in Mary Geoise were far from over.

October 29, 1472, Age of the Sea Circle

At last, the day of the baby's birth arrived. With the help of the doctors and midwives of the Rosward mansion, Bianca gave birth to her little son without any complications, and she named him Gino.

This was a name she and Mario had chosen long ago, in case they were to have another son in the future, and the reason she used it now was because the moment she laid eyes on her baby, she knew immediately that he was not the child of her captor, but of her husband, Mario Lysander.

The boy bore the features of her husband, who had so often joked that their other two children were far too handsome and left him feeling overshadowed, since both Lolo and Paul had largely inherited the appearance of the beautiful Bianca.

It was curious that now, when she was a prisoner in a distant land, she had finally given birth to a child whose appearance resembled her beloved husband more than her own, almost as if it were a gift from the heavens meant to ease her suffering.

On that day, Bianca held her baby close and wept with joy, unnoticed by anyone in the mansion, and she swore that she would raise this Lysander born in the land of the Celestial Dragons to become a decent human being.

Fortunately for Bianca, Hannibal was not a family man, and beyond his eldest children—his primary heirs—he paid little attention to the rest. He had not even bothered to be present for the birth of his son with Bianca, as he had no interest in him whatsoever.

At most, he might pay the child some attention in the future if he were to show talent, since otherwise he would be lost among the mountain of useless nobles in Mary Geoise. Gino was Hannibal Rosward's nineteenth child, so in a way it was understandable that he did not receive much attention from his father.

It was precisely this indifference on the part of the arrogant Celestial Dragon that would allow Bianca to raise her son without him being tainted by the detestable customs of the Celestial Dragons, although on more than one occasion she had come dangerously close to being exposed.

For years, Bianca lived on constant alert, attentive to every minor change, doing her best to raise her son while preventing his true lineage from being discovered, and fortunately for her, a major incident occurred a few years later, allowing her, for a time, to live much more at ease.

December 6, 1482, Age of the Sea Circle

A week earlier, a major event had shaken the entire world: the God Valley incident.

Bianca, who had been living in Mary Geoise for the past ten years, learned through an official communiqué that her captor, Hannibal Rosward, had died during the attack carried out by powerful pirates amid the horrific competition known as the Native Hunting.

In addition to Hannibal, all of the family's eldest children had also perished, leaving the new heir as the foolish Rosward Rosward, who was currently seventeen years old and had not been taken to the hunt at God Valley by his father simply because Hannibal found him extremely annoying and did not want him anywhere nearby.

With the tragic death of all the Roswards who had traveled to the West Blue, this branch of the family had been left on the verge of collapse, although fortunately the presence of Rosward Rosward and Gino had prevented a conflict from breaking out between the neighboring branches over control of the family.

Even so, Gino had not been considered at all for the position of patriarch left vacant by Hannibal, since not only was he the son of a slave brought from the lower world, but he was also regarded by the other Celestial Dragons as "strange."

In truth, Gino was probably the only normal child in the entire family, although that very normalcy was seen as something out of place in Mary Geoise. Bianca had taken it upon herself to provide her young son with the best education possible, which had resulted in a personality that differed greatly from that of a typical Celestial Dragon.

Moreover, although Gino did not possess exceptional talent for combat itself, he had proven to be a prodigy in the control of poisons, and Bianca had instructed him in the secret techniques of the Vespa family, allowing his natural talent to truly flourish.

At only ten years of age, Gino was an expert in the use of all kinds of poisons, and in addition he possessed a good disposition, exquisite etiquette, and impeccable discipline. If he were to return in his current state to the South Blue, he would undoubtedly be treated as an elite by any noble family, yet in Mary Geoise his talents lay buried, unknown to anyone.

Bianca had raised this Lysander well in Mary Geoise, which had prevented problems up to this point, although that was about to change after the great event that had shaken the Rosward family.

Now that Rosward Rosward had assumed the position of patriarch, matters were about to become complicated once more, and Bianca would have to endure yet another descent into hell.

July 30, 1487, Age of the Sea Circle

Five years passed in the blink of an eye, and Gino was now fifteen years old. Under the guidance of his mother Bianca, he had grown into a man skilled in both the arts and combat, with a particular specialization in poisons.

Even so, he had remained hidden from the eyes of the other Roswards, whether from the main branch or the secondary ones. The reason for this was that Bianca did not want him to draw too much attention, as that could bring them serious trouble.

Until now, he had grown up as an anomaly in Mary Geoise, with no one taking much interest in him, but all of that could change in an instant if he were to take a single misstep, and that was precisely what was about to happen.

"So my dear brother Gino is planning a rebellion against the leader of the family, huh?" said Rosward Rosward, now the patriarch of the clan's main branch, as he approached the adolescent he had seen only a handful of times in his life.

"…" Gino said nothing in response to Rosward's accusations, though he was clearly nervous about the situation.

At that moment, Rosward had come all the way to the remote pavilion where Gino and his mother Bianca lived in near seclusion, and he was accompanied by all of the family's high-ranking soldiers, as well as elite agents of CP0.

Clearly, Rosward had not come with peaceful intentions.

"Rosward, what are you saying? There's no way Gino has been planning to harm you," Bianca said in a worried tone, stepping forward in an attempt to protect her beloved son.

"Oh really? Then what is this?" Rosward replied, as he threw a large number of folders onto the ground, each one detailing all of Gino's movements over the past several months.

Bianca's face went pale, and turning sharply, she looked at Gino, who lowered his head without saying a word while clenching his fists tightly.

In truth, despite the fact that his mother had warned him several times not to take reckless actions, he had been planning the assassination of his "brother" Rosward in order to take the position of family patriarch and free his mother from her status as a slave.

Only the Rosward patriarch had the authority to grant freedom to a family slave, and his greatest desire since childhood had been to liberate his mother so that she could return to her home in the South Blue and reunite with her family.

Gino knew that he was not Hannibal's son, because Bianca had told him many years earlier. For a long time, Gino's wish had been to escape Mary Geoise and return to his mother's homeland, to search for his true father and meet his siblings.

In order to achieve that, it was necessary to gain more power within the Rosward clan, and that was why he had begun a plan to eliminate the foolish Rosward Rosward, believing that he would not be discovered if he acted with sufficient stealth.

Unfortunately for him, Rosward Rosward had been feeling threatened by Gino for several years, since this low-profile younger brother was a true genius in comparison to himself.

Rosward had grown paranoid, convinced that his position as the leader of the family would be snatched away by his younger brother, and for that reason he had secretly asked Cipher Pol to investigate him. Paradoxically, it was precisely that paranoia that had saved his life, preventing him from dying at Gino's hands without even being able to defend himself.

Now, Rosward had all the evidence he needed to act against Gino and eliminate him once and for all, thus securing his position as patriarch permanently.

"Arrest him. We'll execute him this afternoon," Rosward Rosward said, waving his hand as he tried to appear more imposing than he actually was.

The soldiers replied with a brief monosyllable and moved toward Gino, who slipped his hand inside his clothes, ready to use his poisons and fight to the very end.

However, at that very moment, Bianca stepped forward, blocking the soldiers' advance, and looking at Rosward, she said,

"Wait a minute, Rosward! Don't kill your brother. We can come to an agreement."

Rosward looked at the beautiful woman he had not seen in years, and his penis hardened with desire. Bianca had done everything possible not to draw attention to herself over the years, knowing that her beauty was a double-edged sword. However, now there was no turning back. Rosward had noticed her presence, and there was no longer any way to escape his grasp.

A bit of saliva began to trickle from the corner of Rosward's mouth, unable to stop himself from undressing Bianca with his eyes. Even so, he was someone who had always felt inferior, and for that reason he constantly tried to project an image of dignity and seriousness, though he rarely succeeded.

For that reason, he restrained his overflowing desire, and after clearing his throat, he said,

"Ahem! When I was a child, I didn't understand why my father would condescend to make a deal with a mere mortal, but now that I see you once again, I can understand his feelings."

Rosward Rosward displayed a lascivious smile as he looked at Bianca, who was currently forty-two years old, and with another flick of his hand, he signaled the soldiers to stop. He was interested in hearing what she had to say.

On that day, Bianca once again made a deal with a Rosward, in a way echoing what had happened many years earlier in the kingdom of Koldara.

July 15, 1488, Age of the Sea Circle

One year after Rosward had attempted to eliminate Gino, Bianca was nursing her infant daughter in one of the main rooms of the mansion. She was one of Rosward Rosward's favored concubines, and she had a three-month-old daughter with him.

A year earlier, she had resorted to the only solution she could think of to save her son's life: sacrificing herself in his place.

Just as she had done many years ago in the South Blue to save her family, she had made a deal with Rosward Rosward. She would willingly become his woman, on the condition that he let Gino go free.

Rosward had accepted her proposal because, like his father Hannibal, he could not resist the beauty of the Vespa princess. Even so, he was not willing to simply grant Gino his freedom outright, since otherwise he would remain a threat in the future.

For that reason, Rosward Rosward expelled him from the family and from Mary Geoise, forcing him to live the life of a mortal in the lower world. For Rosward, such a fate was worse than death itself, but for Bianca it was the best possible outcome, since her son would finally obtain the freedom she had dreamed of for him for so many years.

Although Gino did not want to leave without his mother, he was forcibly expelled from Mary Geoise, unable to do anything to resist. Before he was cast out, Bianca gave him a small insignia bearing the crest of the Vespa royal family, and also told him to seek out his father Mario and his siblings without worrying about her.

On the very night Gino was expelled from Mary Geoise, Rosward Rosward took Bianca as a concubine, begetting his third daughter, Aria—Rosward already had two other daughters with two of his official wives, who were also his blood sisters.

Unlike what had happened many years earlier with Hannibal, Bianca was unable to avoid giving descendants to the Rosward family, which made her situation far more tragic than before.

Although her skills with poison remained intact, she did not have access to the materials necessary to create the poison that would ruin the fertility of her new captor, something she would lament for many years.

Moreover, unlike Hannibal, Rosward Rosward was what one might call a family man, and he had no intention of ignoring any of his children. Perhaps because of the way his own father had treated him during his childhood, Rosward harbored an almost compulsive desire to pamper his children and give them everything within his reach.

In a normal family, such an attitude would not have been such a serious problem—although it could still lead to behavioral issues—but once the Celestial Dragons were introduced into the equation, everything changed.

The children of the Rosward family would grow up to become some of the most capricious in all of Mary Geoise, and therefore among the most ruthless. To them, everything in the world was meant to obey their commands, and as a result they would end up in trouble more than once with other Celestial Dragons, although fortunately for them, they generally directed their depraved impulses toward the defenseless.

For Bianca, the fact that Rosward paid such close attention to his children was not something positive, since she would be unable to raise her young daughter Aria to be a normal person, as she had done with Gino in the past.

Bianca was taken from the remote pavilion where she had lived for fifteen years to one of the central pavilions, where she could not escape the gaze of her new captor, and her daughter Aria grew up under the influence of Celestial Dragon values, becoming more horrible with each passing day, something that broke her mother Bianca's heart.

June 21, 1502, Age of the Sea Circle

While Orion lay in a coma after overexerting himself during the rescue of Ginny from the hands of a Celestial Dragon who sought to kidnap her and make her his wife—a tragedy that had repeated itself countless times throughout history—his grandmother Bianca was crying in sorrow.

In Mary Geoise, she was attending a wedding. As for the protagonists of this ceremony, they were none other than Rosward Rosward and his daughter Aria.

That's right, the depraved noble of the World Government was marrying his own biological daughter, and to make matters even worse, she was currently only fourteen years old.

Once again, Bianca wished with all her strength that she had had access to the materials necessary to create the poison she had used years earlier to destroy Hannibal's fertility, because then she could have forever ruined the manhood of this hateful noble who was now not only her captor, but also her daughter's husband, in a merciless twist of fate.

Worst of all, Aria felt no repulsion whatsoever at the idea of marrying her own father, since she had been conditioned by the repugnant Celestial Dragon from a very young age.

Rosward Rosward—unlike his father Hannibal—believed that children born from unions between close relatives were the ones with the greatest talent, since that was where the pure blood of the gods was most concentrated.

He himself was the result of a marriage between his father Hannibal and one of his sisters, and so he believed that his own existence was absolute proof that his theory was correct, even though all the other nobles who had dealings with him considered him to be a below-average fool.

Rosward Rosward had taken all of his sisters—those who had survived by not going to God Valley, just as he had—as wives, and now he wanted to go one step further and take his own daughter as his wife in order to produce a perfect lineage.

Although such degrees of depravity were not normal even in Mary Geoise, the rest of the family did not oppose his wishes, since after years as patriarch he had consolidated his position and wielded absolute authority.

It was a miracle that someone considered stupid by others could maintain his authority in such a way, which led many people who were aware of the situation to wonder whether he might simply be pretending to be foolish in order to lower the guard of any potential opponent.

Obviously, such theories were mistaken, since Rosward Rosward was in truth nothing more than a lucky fool.

On this day, the patriarch of the Rosward family took his daughter Aria as his wife, while Bianca could do nothing but weep in sorrow from the shadows of the banquet hall, wondering how many more tragedies she would still have to endure.

What she did not know was that very soon the heavens would take pity on her and send someone to help her, someone she never would have imagined seeing: her grandson Orion, whom she had not yet met.
