Vol. 5 Chapter 136: Flee Like Rabbits (Part 3)
Miyako observed the first group of demons rushing in their direction. She knew she couldn’t contribute greatly in this task, there were just so many demons. However, she was determined to do however she could, even how minuscule her result would be. Even if she were to reduce the number of enemies coming after Estelia just a little, or even just slow the enemy down, she’d do it, that was enough.
“Spread out!” Miyako gave the order.
The soldiers spread out and moved in front of both Miyako and Satomi. They were to employ the strategy they had used when facing Isaki. That was the only option to fight against the demons with what they had. The soldiers may not be able to really damage the demons, but they could keep them occupied until those who can strike.
Miyako looked up at the sky and saw a group of flying imps. It would seem not all imps here were winged ones. Those flying were out of reach. There was a sign of relief, though; if the imps were on the ground, then they weren’t as strong as Isaki. So, Miyako felt they could handle them. Perhaps it was good that they faced someone strong at the start so they wouldn’t be so shocked upon meeting an elite demon.
The problem, however, was the giant demon. It seemed like real trouble.
Miyako held her katana tightly. She glanced back, watching as Estelia and her crew gradually shrank in the distance. She knew she was going to feel lonely without her. But that was fine, every person had their lives to live. Something to fight for.
Miyako smiled and faced the upcoming enemy. Eventually, they arrived. The demon group paused in place. The imps looked vicious, being in their true form, but she could tell they were puzzled about their presence.
“What the fuck are these worms tryna do?” The giant demon asked in a growly voice.
“Fuck ‘em. Boss said to focus on the target! Let’s go.”
They were about to continue when Miyako raised her sword. “Attack!”
The soldiers immediately got in the demons’ way and began their attack.
“What the fuck? Get out of the way!”
The soldiers clashed against the imps, and the imps drew out their claws. Without needing to give direct instructions, the soldiers went in pairs against an imp. A soldier clashed his sword against an imp’s claws — judging from their exchange of attacks, the elite soldier was doing quite well. However, the imp had another enemy to handle. The soldier’s partner came up from the side and slashed the back of the imp’s legs. The demon groaned in annoyance. The first soldier immediately stepped in and cleaved the imp’s chest.
The demon might have done a better job at evading that, but he didn’t care. After all, their attacks could never kill him. However, that was how it should have been. Suddenly, Miyako came in from behind and swung her blood-enchanted sword at the demon’s neck, severing it. The wound on both ends sizzled and steamed, and the head’s eyes widened in shock and confusion, frantically looking around. Before anything else, Miyako plunged her sword through the head.
With that demon slain, the soldiers immediately moved to another target. Miyako looked up to see groups of imps flying in the sky, and she felt worried. There were so many powerful demons coming after Estelia. She clenched her sword tightly.
She saw Satomi slash a demon several times in a single moment, and the imp ended up crawling on the ground with steaming wounds all over. With so many holy attacks coming in quick succession, it quickly disabled the imp’s healing capability. And Satomi landed the finishing strike by stabbing through the head.
Miyako went in to help another pair and struck the imp. The imp grunted in pain and glared at Miyako. But before he could move, the soldiers stepped in and grabbed his attention. Miyako landed a fatal strike from behind, pushing her blade into the back of the demon’s chest. She pulled out her blade while the pair of soldiers each stabbed their weapons into the demon’s arms, holding him in place.
Then Miyako did a heavy swing, cleaving the demon from the shoulder down. And finally, she drew back her blade and pierced it through the head.
Pulling out her sword, she looked around and saw a couple of her men being struck down, killed by the demons they faced. With a displeased expression, she glanced towards the giant demon.
The old man, a general, was facing the red giant alone. However, the general was among the strongest on the island. His movements and attacks were faster than even Satomi or her teacher. He dodged the giant’s heavy fist attempting to strike down at him.
When he saw an opening, the general swiftly moved in and swung his sword down at the giant’s arm. However, to his shock, his blade didn’t cut through its skin. As if the muscles were so firm that it even held back a sharp blade. As he realized the difficulty of the situation, the general quickly backed away just as the giant tried to attack him.
The general clicked his tongue in frustration. “This is ridiculous, I can’t even lay a scratch on it.”
“Annoying little mosquito,” the giant said in a grim voice. “Insignificant pests. Get out of our way.”
The general ignored it and continued his attack.
Miyako turned towards Satomi. “Satomi! Clear up the imps, I’ll help with the giant!”
Satomi glanced towards Miyako and nodded. “Understood.”
Miyako rushed towards the giant and launched a surprise attack. As the giant engaged with the general, Miyako lunged from behind and landed a wide, heavy swing across the giant’s back. She expected great resistance judging from how the general did. However, to her relief, her blade was able to cut through the demon’s skin, making a wide cut on the demon’s back.
“What?!” The demon stumbled forward, confused about what had just happened. It slowly turned towards Miyako as she backed away. “Holy magic.” It growled.
The general launched an attack and distracted the giant. It was then that Miyako saw the wound was not healing like those on imps. The flesh was only steaming and sizzling. Miyako quickly rushed in.
The giant noticed her coming, and it slammed its foot the moment Miyako was within reach, but the latter dodged and swiftly slashed its leg as she passed. It ignored the pain and threw a fist at Miyako, and Miyako quickly cast a shield. But the impact was so powerful that it blew her away. She tumbled and ricocheted on the ground before quickly recovering to her feet. She glanced at the surroundings for a second, and saw more and more demons move past them. They merely ignored them, the humans.
Are they that desperate to catch them? What do they even need?
The general rushed towards Miyako. “Lady Miyako, are you alright?”
“Yeah.”
The giant glared at them.
“I’ll distract it, only come in if there’s an opening,” the general said.
The power from its fists was enough to shatter her shield in an instant. If she got hit head-on, she might end up fatally wounded. She had to avoid getting hit at all costs. But the question was, how many attacks will it take to kill this giant? The tear she inflicted was by no means small, but it was still moving like it was nothing. At any rate, she might need help on this. Satomi and the soldiers were about done with the other imps, she just needed to hold out for a few minutes.
And thus, they continued their attacks against the giant demon. Miyako would stay back and only intervene when she could land a direct hit. But the giant had become wary of her presence. Therefore, sometimes when she stepped in to strike, the giant would retreat or evade her.
However, Miyako wouldn’t pass any chance. Gradually, she slashed the demon more and more. She hit it in the legs, the waist, the back, the arms. She wanted to hit somewhere fatal, but that was proving difficult at the moment. All the damage she inflicted did not even seem to slow the giant down. She needed to land a more critical strike.
The demon suddenly swung its leg, sending a kick towards Miyako. The latter held out her sword and used the flat of her blade to block the foot. The impact shook her arms, and she was flung backwards. She landed on her feet, but before she could reach in time, the demon was already a step before her, and already had its fist coming at her.
However, before the fist could land, Satomi stepped in and swung her sword down at the demon’s fist. It would seem the blade almost reached the bone, and the demon winced as it immediately withdrew its hand. At the same time, the other soldiers came in and engaged with the demon, ganging up on it.
The giant swung its arms at the little humans. “Damn you! Enough of this!” It stomped its foot, sending debris and dust in all directions.
Miyako cast a shield to protect herself.
“Milady, are you okay?” Satomi asked once the chaos settled.
“Yes. Let’s end that thing.”
They charged at the lone enemy, while hundreds more ran right past them.
A single imp looked down on them from above and let out a tired sigh. “Don’t mind the humans.” They were utterly insignificant.

Holy shit!!! What the fuck, these demons serious are that serious?!
I looked back, and holy fuck, there was a whole lot of demons coming on our assess. Fucking great! I knew that they were desperate to get me, but shit, this still surprised me. We reached the woods next to the mountains.
How the hell are we gonna lose those flying guys above?!
Pretty hard to lose flyers when the forest trees had no leaves. The demons running on foot were gaining on us as well. Not good, not very good. I equipped medium daggers in both hands and enchanted them with my blood, best to prepare for combat.
I stared at the pair of black fogs flying nearby. “Heneis, Galik, slow down those on foot! We’ll take care of those in the sky!”
The fogs then flew back to meet with the gaining demons on the ground.
Now then, to reduce the number of these flyers…
