Chapter 79 : Must Die
Must Die
The next morning at 7:30, Cecilia woke up once again to the gentle sound of commotion.
She was not in the habit of getting up early; unless forced by life circumstances, she would stay in bed as long as possible. Especially now that she had become a girl—maybe due to severe anemia—every morning upon waking, she always felt dizzy and groggy.
But Gu Yanxi was clearly not someone who liked to sleep in.
As soon as the first alarm rang, she would get up full of energy. Even if there was nothing to do after getting up, she would absolutely not stay in bed. In this respect, she was in stark contrast to Cecilia.
After all, people have different constitutions—you can't generalize.
She quickly threw on a loose solid-color T-shirt, turned to glance at Cecilia, who was still tightly wrapped up under the air conditioning blanket, and a faint smile appeared on Gu Yanxi's face as she asked softly,
"Are you awake? What do you want to eat? I'll go buy it for you now."
"Steamed dumplings, soy milk, thank you."
From within the bundled-up quilt, came the girl's voice, as weak as a kitten's mew.
"Okay, I'll go ask my mom. She probably hasn't gotten up yet either."
Leaving those words behind, Gu Yanxi pulled open the bedroom door and went out.
Bang—
Once the door was closed, the bedroom immediately fell silent.
Cecilia poked her small face out from under the blanket, dazed for a moment, then, feeling the room a little too cold, curled herself back into the warm covers.
When faced with difficulties, sleep it away.
She'd get up later to eat.
......
Ten minutes or so later, after buying breakfast for the whole family at the apartment complex gate, Gu Yanxi carried the plastic bags and walked back inside the complex.
However, as she passed the bulletin board at the entrance, her gaze suddenly swept across a brand new missing person poster, and she froze, her footsteps halting instantly.
Unlike usual, the board that was typically plastered with housing rental ads now displayed several missing person posters with color photos.
These were no ordinary missing person posters. They neither listed the name of the missing person, nor what they were wearing when last seen, nor the last location they appeared at. It was only a side-profile photo, and at the bottom, a bold line of black text promising a cash reward of 150,000 RMB for providing any clues.
Worst of all, Gu Yanxi recognized the girl in the photo with silver twin-tails.
To say she recognized her would be an understatement—she was very familiar.
If she guessed right, the girl in the photo should still be sleeping beneath her own covers at this very moment.
Who put this up? What was going on?
Forcing a calm expression, Gu Yanxi slowly approached the board, freed her right hand, and touched the missing person poster.
The surface of the paper was still damp, and the paste hadn't dried yet, so this poster could not have been up for long—probably less than an hour.
Remembering the candid photography incident on the forum a few days ago, Gu Yanxi clenched the plastic bag tighter in her right hand, and a bad premonition rose inside her.
She looked around. No one seemed to notice. Gritting her teeth, Gu Yanxi tore down every missing person poster on the board, crumpled them together, and quickened her pace home.
A few minutes later, slightly sweating, Gu Yanxi opened the front door, tossed the breakfast onto the table, and hurriedly returned to her bedroom, breathing heavily.
Cecilia was already up, sitting at the edge of the bed in loose thin pyjamas, tying up her hair. A hair tie was slipped onto her slender wrist, and as she lifted her sleeping top, her milky-white skin was revealed.
"What's wrong? Why are you in such a rush?"
Seeing Gu Yanxi looking like this, Cecilia looked up and asked, slightly puzzled.
"Something... something happened. I saw this on the bulletin board at the apartment entrance."
Catching her breath, Gu Yanxi's complexion finally looked a little better. She walked forward, handing over the crumpled wad of paper to Cecilia in two quick steps.
Unfolding the paper, Cecilia squinted her eyes, and a sinking feeling rose in her chest. She took a deep breath.
So it was a monetary offensive... Was this Dragon Abyss's new tactic?
She had been wondering why Dragon Abyss had been so quiet these past two days, and who would have thought that after just one night, Dragon Abyss would deliver such a "surprise."
If these posters were put up all over Xijiang City, then under the massive lure of 150,000 RMB, without a doubt, every resident in Xijiang City would become Dragon Abyss's minions and eyes. At that point, Cecilia would never be able to step out her front door for the rest of her life.
Shameful as this method was, it was extremely effective—especially given her current predicament—it was simply a checkmate, leaving no room for a turnaround.
After so much wasted effort, Dragon Abyss had finally found the most disgusting way.
"Hu..."
Letting out a gentle breath, Cecilia crumpled the paper again and tossed it into the trash bin a few meters away.
"This was done by Dragon Abyss, right? What should we do now?"
Gu Yanxi's voice was thick with concern.
Cecilia thought for a moment, then tilted her head and said softly, "It's fine. Just act like nothing happened, and don't let your mom know for now. Leave the rest to me."
"Yeah, my mom's lazy, just like you. She barely goes out. I've already torn down all the posters at the apartment entrance. She probably won't find out in the next few days."
Gu Yanxi finished slowly and wanted to say something more. But when she saw Cecilia's eyes, as calm and dark as the night before a violent storm, she eventually closed her mouth, opting for silence.
No matter how good her grades were, in the end, Gu Yanxi was still just an ordinary, underage high school girl. Deep down, she knew—for this level of a power struggle, it was not her place to intervene yet.
"Let's eat first."
"Mm."
.......
After breakfast, it was nearly nine o'clock. The sun was shining brightly outside, but Yao Qian still hadn't gotten up.
After washing up and tidying herself in the mirror, Cecilia returned to the bedroom and, alongside Gu Yanxi, entered the world of Legend of Kaloran.
She had been living at Gu Yanxi's house for some time now. Over the past two days, the bleeding had lessened—no longer the early flood, but tending towards clotting. Cecilia knew her body was gradually getting better.
Daytime passed as usual, focusing on leveling up and development, and occasionally searching Main City for an NPC who specialized in repairing houses—hoping to renovate the house Gu Yanxi had drawn.
The new version would be out the day after tomorrow, and Little Persimmon Puppy's auction would begin at 8:00 PM that night. Time was tight. To settle all problems in one stroke, Cecilia still needed a fair amount of money.
Nighttime, however, would be the best time to settle scores with Dragon Abyss.
This was the first time in her life that Cecilia had ever wanted so badly to kill someone. From the moment she saw that missing person poster, she had already prepared herself to kill.
Whether for herself or to reassure Gu Yanxi's family, Dragon Abyss—this person—must die!
