Chapter 62 : Monster Siege (6)
Monster Siege (6)
By the time Yuewu and Gu Yanxi came back to their senses, Cecilia had already left them with nothing but a distant silhouette.
She had stowed the black cloak into her backpack, revealing a set of armor underneath that could only be described as resplendent.
A silver-white metal cuirass, as smooth as a mirror yet covered in intricate dark patterns, just managed to protect the budding chest of the young girl, exposing her softly contoured waist and flat belly.
Her lower half was adorned with a short skirt interwoven with black and red, the hem sewn by densely running strands of silver thread, paired with deep-colored, mid-heeled knee boots that made her legs appear all the more straight and slender. A deep red scarf hung on both sides, swaying gently with each step the girl took.
Although this outfit was a skirt, its unique structure and design did not hinder movement—in fact, it enhanced her agility—forming a stark contrast to the cumbersome bone armor of Dawn's Light.
Add to that her long silver hair cascading down like a galaxy, it was undeniably a breathtaking back view; yet because she was all alone amidst players engaged in bloody battle against monsters, the scene carried an inexplicable sense of melancholy.
War was so cruel; humans and monsters had reached a stage of life-and-death struggle. The beautiful girl donned her battle attire, walking steadfast and solitary onto the battlefield, leaving everyone with just a lonely figure receding into the distance.
A vicious goblin finally managed to breach the human frontlines, lunging toward the delicate-looking girl, her life seeming as frail as a candle in the wind, as if in the next moment she would be torn apart by the ferocious monster...
A flash of steel—
A bloodied goblin's head flew high into the air, while its body remained dumbly in place, maintaining the pose of swinging its club.
The silver-haired girl, as if nothing had happened, calmly put away her short dagger and continued walking forward.
Witnessing this, the touch of emotion that had finally stirred in Yuewu and Gu Yanxi's hearts instantly vanished into thin air.
Well, never mind then.
Still, Cecilia's presence left an extremely deep impression on them.
Watching the girl's back drift into the distance, Yuewu's beautiful eyes were full of shifting light.
She hadn't expected Cecilia to be not only so powerful—capable of soloing a world-class BOSS—but also such a lovely, adorable girl.
Well, maybe let's temporarily drop "adorable"...
Even as proud as she was, at this moment—after seeing Cecilia's true appearance—she could not help but feel a pang of defeat inside.
No, such a beautiful female player was already extremely rare. Combined with her terrifying strength, she couldn't let another team recruit her.
At this thought, her gaze grew much firmer. She opened her private chat interface and sent a message to someone...
Two minutes later, Chen Zixuan arrived at the frontlines. All around, players were fighting goblins, and the ground was littered with monster corpses.
Of course, goblins were only the lowest-tier monsters—their attack power wasn't high, and their defense and health were downright pitiful.
At first, the players had never seen such a massive spectacle. Seeing thousands upon thousands of goblins surging forward, fear was inevitable, which was why they had initially been at a disadvantage.
But gradually, they realized goblin attacks were weak—it took seven or eight ganging up on a single player to kill anyone. So the players' courage grew, and they started to gather in groups of three to five, launching effective counterattacks.
Even if an ordinary player's attack wasn't enough to kill a goblin in one blow, others would quickly step in to finish the monster off, trying to snatch the kill.
A few minutes into the battle, although quite a few players fell, the others, now more used to large-scale combat, finally began to overcome their fear and were barely able to hold back the goblin horde.
With the fivefold leveling speed bonus, many players had already reached level 2 or 3 within minutes of the event's start.
At this rate, if nothing special happened, the players just might be able to withstand this monster siege.
Chen Zixuan didn't rush to fight over monsters with the other players but instead stood aside, observing from a distance.
Goblins gave pitifully little experience. At Chen Zixuan's current level, even if he killed a thousand, he likely wouldn't even reach level 7 from 6, let alone 8.
His real targets were actually the several hundred elite goblins. However, perhaps because they moved more slowly, he hadn't seen any of them nearby yet.
Still, no matter how discreetly Chen Zixuan acted, his equipment and looks were just too conspicuous—he inevitably attracted a lot of attention from the players around him.
However, since the fighting was still fierce and the temptation of experience and treasure chests was great, few players came over to strike up a conversation.
By now, enough time had passed since the start of the event that the surviving players were generally those with solid levels and strength.
Seeing that ordinary goblins couldn't even hurt them, many had inevitably grown somewhat complacent.
Some even took the opportunity to chat idly with teammates while killing monsters.
Their topic of conversation was, of course, the solitary, silver-haired girl not far away.
Some words drifted over from afar, things like "minimum three years" or "every Chinese gamer's a fan of white hair," occasionally spliced with a few indecent laughs—phrases Chen Zixuan couldn't quite understand.
He didn't bother with them. He certainly couldn't just start killing people in public—let them say what they liked.
Suddenly, just then, from the very front of the lines, a burst of terrified shouting erupted. Many players were desperately fleeing back.
"What happened?"
Players further back on the front lines were baffled.
"Retreat, quickly! There's a huge group of elite monsters up ahead! Lots of people couldn't escape in time and died there!" the retreating players panted, answering with difficulty.
At these words, many faces instantly fell.
At their current levels and with their current gear, they could barely handle ordinary goblins. Facing elite monsters was another story; a single elite could easily take on at least three regular players, to say nothing of an entire group of elites!
Chen Zixuan, however, thought this made sense. Given the game's usual style, it was impossible for it to be so merciful as to hand out such great leveling benefits to regular players.
The initial goblin horde was just an appetizer—the truly grueling monsters likely came later.
Of course, Chen Zixuan wasn't the only player to realize this.
At the news, a group of players who were slaughtering goblins immediately formed up and charged toward the front lines.
It was a twenty-player squad, made up of four teams of five. Each member had at least one blue rare-quality piece of equipment, and from their well-practiced teamwork, they were clearly from a domestic professional team.
Their goal—like Chen Zixuan's—was the experience from killing elite monsters and the kill points that could be exchanged for treasure chests!
