Chapter 50 : Dangerous Character
Dangerous Character
"Ah, that's right, this Mo Yao is my new student."
In the afternoon class, Liushu still looked listless as usual.
"Hello, everyone."
Mo Yao gave her signature greeting.
"A new classmate?"
It was Xiya's first time seeing Mo Yao; during the morning class, she hadn't been with Mo Ying.
"I just barely passed the exam this morning."
Mo Yao kept up her smile.
"Let me introduce you. This is Mo Ying, the best in the Martial Department. This is Xiya, the most talented in the Magic Department. And this is Shuang Yun, who transferred here recently, just like you."
As Liushu spoke, he pulled out a cigarette from a pack.
*Click. Click. Click.* He pressed the lighter several times, but it didn't light. Looks like it was out of fuel.
*Snap.* Mo Yao snapped her fingers, lighting Liushu's cigarette for him.
"Thanks, magic sure is convenient."
Liushu said.
"Ah, that's refreshing."
Liushu didn't look as sleepy anymore once he started smoking.
"No need to thank me. Just give me a bit more credit on the exam next time."
Mo Yao replied.
"We'll see. Also, can you drop that fake smile on your face? I've seen too many smiles like that. Every time I see yours, it reminds me of someone else. If I spend too much time with you, I might have nightmares at night."
Liushu looked at Mo Yao's expression as he spoke.
"Mo Ying."
Anlus suddenly appeared beside Mo Ying, whispering quietly in Mo Ying's ear.
"This is a dangerous person,"
Anlus said to Mo Ying, eyeing Mo Yao.
"The aura she gives off is just like a certain fairy queen I know—extremely dangerous."
"Don't be fooled by her smile. She's definitely not a good person."
Anlus did not sound like she was joking.
"...."
Mo Yao turned around and stared at Anlus.
At some point, those green eyes had turned into slitted pupils, like a snake's. A strange bell sound also rang out around them.
"A fairy. This is my first time seeing one of this race,"
Mo Yao said. (At this moment, the Serpent had taken over her body. Whenever serpent eyes appear, it means the Serpent of Heaven is in control.)
"Tch."
Anlus felt a wave of nausea, like something had targeted her vital point, making her skin crawl.
She said no more and returned to her own space.
"Alright, alright, I'm done smiling."
Mo Yao said.
"Why did your tone change so much all of a sudden? Are you a dual personality case too?"
Liushu even paused his smoking; this new classmate's mood swings were way too drastic.
"Split personality is an illness, you know. Needs treatment,"
Liushu commented.
"I heard the academy arranges for students to go into the hunting grounds every year. Is that true?"
The Serpent's personality was vastly different from Yin Hua's. If it were Yin Hua in control, she'd go tit-for-tat with Liushu for three hundred rounds, but the Serpent simply shifted the topic.
"The academy offers two chances every year to enter the Fairyland. To enter Fairyland, you must first pass the Principal's mental test."
"When will the next entry be?"
"You seem pretty concerned about the hunting grounds?"
"Just curious, that's all. I've never been in before."
"The next entry's in about a week. If I remember right, we always go once at the start of the term, and once more when the semester's ending."
Liushu gave a rough estimate.
"Liushu."
Qili suddenly spoke, joining the conversation.
"What is it, old lady?"
Liushu responded.
"This person's magic—it's very unusual,"
Qili said.
"Pure white mana, what attribute is that?"
That's when Liushu noticed the pure white mana surging from Mo Yao. He'd never seen anything like it.
"I see, so that means even as a transfer student, I'm eligible to enter the hunting grounds, right?"
Mo Yao seemed to be confirming something.
"Of course,"
Liushu nodded.
"Alright, I've got no further questions,"
Mo Yao concluded her inquiry.
"If there're no more questions, let's start class. Mo Ying, did you bring the deck?"
"I brought it!"
Now that those two had finally finished their conversation, Mo Ying took out a box of cards.
"This is a four-player card game. Whoever loses, rotates out,"
Mo Ying explained.
"Okay, whoever loses the most buys dinner tonight."
"Teacher Liushu's leeching food and drink again."
"Hey, how's it leeching? I win fair and square every time,"
Liushu started shuffling the deck.
"Alright, alright, everyone sit down, deal the cards."
Liushu's special class was about to begin.
But halfway through this game, something started to go wrong.
"Wait, wait a second."
Liushu quickly called a stop to the game.
"You really expect me to believe you aren't cheating? I have my doubts,"
Liushu said.
"It is a bit strange..."
Xiya looked toward Mo Yao.
Ten rounds.
This person hadn't lost a single hand in ten rounds.
It was supposed to be a game of luck—how could someone's luck be this good?
Liushu wasn't buying it.
"How can you always guess the cards we're holding? Did you turn on X-ray vision or something?"
Liushu interrogated.
"Just lucky,"
Mo Yao replied.
"Lucky is one thing, but this is too much."
"You haven't caught me cheating, so I'm obviously not cheating."
Mo Yao winked.
Liushu and the others would never know it was Yin Hua's soul reading the cards from the side that did the trick.
"Ha? You think I can't beat you, kid?"
Liushu was disgruntled now.
"Again."
They reshuffled.
And thus, the stubborn Liushu paid for dinner that evening.
Thanks to Mo Yao, it was the first time Mo Ying and the others had ever gotten a free meal off Liushu; before, they could never beat him.
If anyone was going to get scammed, it was always Liushu.
"So, how's it taste? I've always thought the cafeteria food is pretty good,"
Mo Ying said to Mo Yao.
"I'm not picky about food. As long as it's edible, it's fine,"
Mo Yao said, a bowl of noodles in front of her.
"Let me try, let me try."
Yin Hua took over the body.
She took a bite of noodles from the bowl.
Still, no taste at all.
"I know what you're thinking, but the reason you can't taste anything is because of a flaw in your soul, not your body. So even if you switch bodies, you still won't be able to taste anything," the Serpent said.
"That's quite a shame,"
Yin Hua said, putting down her chopsticks and letting the Serpent take over again.
"Why did you ask about the hunting grounds specifically?"
Yin Hua asked.
"That one said the time fragments were likely related to the hunting grounds. I heard her say before, the hunting grounds are a silhouette of time, and Dreamscape Academy organizes students to enter every year. I just casually wanted to check," the Serpent answered while sampling the dinner Liushu provided.
Only, it seemed that today, teacher Liushu's mood was worse than ever.
Ah, even more dejected than usual.
