Chapter 541 - 278: The End of the World (Part 2)
The sudden, contextless remark made everyone go silent immediately, even Akuya, who was immersed in the wine, turned her eyes, showing an expression like she was watching a good show.
Meimei’s face was flushed red; having previously misunderstood the brief nonsense between Li Ang and Meluna, she reacted even more intensely.
What brought everyone’s attention back was a waiter serving wine, who was so shocked by the remark that she was at a loss for words, hurriedly left the wine bottle and ran off, not even closing the door properly.
Otto silently walked over and firmly closed the door, this time locking it.
Li Ang struggled hard to hold back his curses: "What are you talking about? Can you please shut up?"
"Therefore, the intelligence of the Empire Witch reminded us that freeing Ivynis from the Empire’s control is something we must prepare for quickly," he awkwardly changed the topic.
Li Ang pointed at Meluna: "Since you know where she might be hidden by the Empire, we will need your power then. This concerns the survival of the world. I hope you will lend a hand."
Meluna’s face lit up with joy: "Are you willing to accept me again?"
Otto rubbed his temples, an unusual reaction for this strong elder of the Horned Race.
Perhaps because he viewed this Er Mei as he would a younger generation, he found himself speechless.
Li Ang didn’t look at the black-haired young girl and said to the white-haired one: "What resulted from Ivynis sacrificing herself?"
"She opened the door for the Demons to return to the world."
"Demons?!"
Hearing about the Demons, everyone found a moment of respite in that chaotic and absurd emotional entanglement and hurried to discuss this serious matter.
Where did they come from? What is their origin? How many bizarre and powerful abilities do they have? What happened in the end?
"There aren’t many Crimson Demons, but they always seem to have a strong purpose and head directly towards their goal as soon as they arrive in Nebis.
"The Guild summarized from their scraps of conversation during battles that they seem familiar with each other. However, their relationships aren’t like those of a race or ethnicity and are hypothesized to be connected by some common cause, likely the process of becoming Demons.
"Later, we discovered that Demons were indeed transformed from other races."
Meimei pointed at Li Ang’s arm: "Through curses, one can twist and transform a person, and they have other methods too, more than you know, I’m sure."
Li Ang lifted his Demon’s Left Arm to take a look; he understood this point too well.
Meluna’s fingers, distinct and slender, gently caressed the hilt of her sword: "Every battle with a Demon is worth remembering."
"What is the purpose of the Demons?" Otto asked.
"To destroy the world, I guess?" Meimei said, half-sure.
"What do you mean?"
"They did say that Nebis must experience endless pain and torment, destruction was definite, but they seem to care about the method."
"Sounds more like a group of avengers then." Farina said, somewhat hintingly.
Meimei sighed: "In any case, the Empire behind the scenes was originally backed by Demon Believers, and the Demons possess a step further in Star Soul Power along with many unspeakable Secret Techniques."
The information Meimei provided about the Demons was quite vague, like she could tell you what they were like but had no clue about the key points.
"Being so mysterious, you still know nothing, and can’t help Li Ang." Zoe said resentfully.
Andasu backed her up: "If she knew everything, would her world have been destroyed?"
"I think not knowing how to fight Demons is also okay," ALulu said, "The best would be not to let them come to Nebis."
Xiaoniu, who was familiar with the stories of the Goddess of the Wotam Sect resisting the Demons, had a different view.
"I know how to kill them." Meluna said.
She raised the Treasure Sword with the sheath: "If I had been there before, I wouldn’t have let Li Ang get cursed."
"So where were you?" Dorothy couldn’t help but ask.
The Female Sword Hero immediately shuddered and stayed silent.
"Stop arguing now."
No matter how much it gave him a headache, Li Ang had to accept it as his own choice; he organized his thoughts and asked: "Could just the Demons defeat the entire power of Nebis? You said there are only a dozen of them; how did they do it?"
Meimei replied: "As I just said, they have a more advanced Secret Technique. From a combat perspective, some Guild strongholds couldn’t withstand their power, but that’s not the main issue.
"What caused widespread defeat was that the Demons brought never-before-seen Star Souls."
"Star Souls?" Everyone was shocked.
Star Souls again?
Many people’s expressions looked like they were saying this; Zoe burrowed into Li Ang’s chest in silence, lost in thought.
"Whether it was Sister Shu, Jenoside, or the Star Souls I later saw destroyed by it, they all somewhat resembled the strong Demons known as the King of the Island.
"However, the new Star Souls brought by the Demons are of different specifications."
Meimei explained in detail that the Star Souls that became the Demons’ pawns vary, some are much weaker, smaller in size, and resemble various partially Demonified human races in appearance, such as wings growing from their backs, or having snake tails.
In contrast, there is another kind of Star Soul, enormous in size, enough to block out the sun, moving across the blue sky like an island, with a power level not particularly high, but with a scale so vast it’s unimaginable.
If previous Annihilator attacks on islands required gathering the Light of the Star Soul to launch an island-destroying strike, these gigantic Star Souls could destroy a Sky Island just by crushing it with their bodies.
"What about the Dragon Gods of that world?" Farina asked.
"After the Demons appeared, the Six Dragons also manifested accordingly. In their confrontation, the weakest Water Dragon was the first to fall.
"It was also after that the Demons brought the first Star Soul as massive as an island, named ’End Sea Star Soul’ by our world’s Guild. It was like an entire ocean, and from afar it seemed as though the sky had an ocean in it, swallowing everything in its path."
"Heh."
After Meimei finished, Akuya chuckled lightly.
Everyone thought she was about to express her opinion or vent her emotions, but she merely said, "Nothing, carry on with your discussion."
Li Ang sensed that as she turned back to drink, her gaze lingered on him for a moment longer.
"These two kinds of Star Souls were named Sub-grade Star Souls and Enlarged Star Souls by the Guild."
Li Ang nodded, these names clearly indicated hostility, showing that these things were definitely not good.
Zoe lifted her head: "Is no one able to communicate with them?"
"With who?"
"These two kinds of Star Souls."
Meimei sighed: "They appeared only wanting to annihilate us, communicate?"
That world lacked a Zoe, Ivynis was dead, the Star Soul Greenhouse seemed quite rare, so it wasn’t surprising that there was no one like that around.
"The Demons’ tricky Secret Techniques, their use of Ancient Ruins and facilities, the rampage of the Star Souls, I embarked on the Legendary path at sixteen and was able to confront these enemies. But before I could annihilate them all, everyone had already collapsed.
"And just like that, my world was destroyed."
Meimei concluded with an unusual calm, slowly sitting down, her face full of fatigue, as if she had just experienced countless life-and-death situations and now only wished for a good night’s sleep.
"Thank you, we learned a lot of critically important information."
Li Ang looked at Meimei leaning back in her chair, her eyelashes drooping, and thought to himself, there were actually many details left to ask, such as speculating that in her world, it was A Xiang, wielding "Bone-Deep Passion and Scorn," who attempted to unravel the Ernest mystery, exposing some of the risks.
But these could be queried in future encounters, organizing these major events was more crucial for now.
Having listened to Meimei’s past, it felt like truly going through a world’s destruction and left him exhausted, Farina and Otto each contemplated, even the young girls of the Star Flower Travel Corps sat quietly, internally digesting it all.
Li Ang was called over by Akuya.
"Do you know why I’m looking for you?" The drunken pink-haired loli lifted her chin.
"I don’t."
"You know but pretend not to."
Akuya pointed a finger at him mockingly: "Take out the Sea Dragon Egg, and also, let’s talk about the profession of Dragon Summoner."
