Chapter 535 - 276: Meimei’s Memories
The so-called adjournment was just Akuya not wanting to properly discuss things anymore. This Water Dragon General’s official incarnation was sent to Mengze Island, and perhaps only the Deputy truly concerned it.
Meimei did not openly refute, and Meluna was evidently not willing, yet the Water Dragon appeared indifferent, as if it had taken them for granted, leisurely leaning back in the chair, savoring more fine wine.
These wines were specifically bought elsewhere by Otto. Despite not being in the village most of the year, he didn’t switch back and forth between respecting and questioning the Water Dragon like others did; he always regarded it as a Divine Spirit.
Then, Li Ang asked the team members to sit down, and he, along with three High-tier Sky Knights, surrounded Meimei.
When it comes to matters concerning the survival of the world, it’s best to collect information quickly.
Not only the three of them, Li Ang noticed that even Zoe was very serious.
Since not long ago, whenever the Empire was mentioned, her attention had been increasingly focused.
"Go ahead," Farina propped her chin on her hand, "you don’t need to make it too complicated; just talk about your past experiences."
Meimei opened her mouth, but for a moment, she was speechless.
Li Ang felt inexplicably tense; although this sort of inquiry was something she might willingly submit to, the current situation did feel a bit like an interrogation.
"Well, I was originally born in Huanwo Village, and then my childhood was kind of..."
She closed her eyes, her long eyelashes trembling slightly, yet struggled to find words.
Perhaps it was too long ago, or maybe she was influenced during her world-crossing, even if those memories could emerge in her mind, articulating them required a process.
Seeing her struggle to continue, Li Ang stood up and went out, and when he returned, everyone was curious about what he had been up to, only to see him holding a paper bag.
He handed the bag to Meimei, the white-haired young girl was a bit puzzled, but still went ahead to open it.
"Ah."
She exclaimed softly, retrieving the pastry wrapped in clean wax paper from inside.
This was a dessert known as Hundred Honey Cake. It wasn’t rare, but it wasn’t very popular because it was too sweet.
As the name implies, it used a special process to stack many sweet ingredients together, achieving a sweetness that one might find overwhelming.
"How did you know——"
Meimei’s surprise was evident, as this was exactly what she loved to eat.
Halfway through her sentence, she saw Meluna aside and instantly realized.
"Wow, that’s unfair, only buying for her?" Dorothy exclaimed.
Li Ang sighed with his eyes closed and took out another large paper bag, which was for the others present.
Meimei’s cheeks flushed as she took a small bite; even though there wasn’t an overwhelming sense of joy, the impact of the sweet on her taste buds was undeniable, a glimmer appeared in her eyes.
"What is it?" Zoe, though not understanding, also leaned towards the paper bag to take a peek.
"For this, city girls would like it more because eating a whole one in one go is a bit overwhelming, it’s better enjoyed slowly accompanied by tea during a tea party," Dorothy said.
"Oh, is there something to eat?"
Akuya leaned back against the chair, tossing her head back, her pink braids swaying beside her forehead.
"This?" After seeing what the dessert was, the Water Dragon said, "I’ve had it in the City of Trade, wasn’t particularly fond of it, but I’ll have one."
"Here you go." Li Ang said.
"Remember to offer frequently." The Water Dragon grabbed one of the cakes.
"Just enough for everyone to have one, huh."
Dorothy surveyed the scene, even Diana had one in her hand.
Holding the Hundred Honey Cake, Dorothy told the girls beside her, "The first bite is exceptionally delicious, feeling like nothing else in the world could taste this good."
Cat, wolf, and cow all took small bites, just as the half-elf described, the sweetness made them nod continuously.
"...But if you keep eating, the sweetness will quickly overwhelm you, so take it slow."
By the time she spoke the latter half, ALulu had already wolfed down the entire thing.
Dorothy’s hand froze mid-action.
Little Cow’s expression changed slightly as well, but wasn’t greatly affected.
"Ah, I forgot she had an iron mouth and iron stomach."
Similar to her, Diana was also unaffected by the intense sweetness which might have been extracted from plants, smiling as she quickly finished it.
"There’s also someone unafraid over here, indeed I’ve underestimated it."
Just as Dorothy whispered, she felt a sharp pain.
Meluna, her head down, appeared to be emanating a deep resentment.
"Ah." Dorothy was taken aback.
Right, this was meant to comfort Meimei, it was something Li Ang used to buy for her...
Meluna looked towards the half-elf; though her expression was blank, the blade gleam in her eyes made the Golden Canary, unequipped to face such formidable presence, tremble all over.
Rooted in place, she watched as the Female Sword Hero’s fingers slowly sank into the tabletop.
Amidst the creaking sound, she shattered a corner of the table with a single grip.
"Here, it’s yours."
Frightened, Dorothy hurriedly handed the Hundred Honey Cake to Meluna.
The black-haired young girl took the food she liked, and the sharpness of her demeanor disappeared immediately, replaced by tranquility, as she quietly ate the cake, all the while staring at Li Ang.
"Phew."
Dorothy exhaled softly, then discovered Zoe beside her, clenching her fist and staring at Meluna.
"What’s wrong?"
"You just gave it to her?"
"No choice, I can’t beat her."
"Damn it. The gap really is huge; how did she get so strong, she’s not much older than me." Zoe said resentfully, holding her fists tight.
