Chapter 530: Crushing the Heart
After that, Henwell begins telling Ruper about what he encountered in Sunflower Fortress.
Of course, he only tells the parts he can say aloud.
After hearing Henwell's experience, Ruper cannot help clicking his tongue in disbelief. "Henwell, you are already a lord now, and even the strongest knight lord on the continent."
"As long as you are willing, you could become a duke in any country. Why are you still fighting this hard?"
"Why do I feel like your life now is even more dangerous and exciting than back then?"
Henwell spreads his hands helplessly. "I do not want this either. But there are always people who cannot stand seeing us live well."
"Where there are people, there is desire. Where there is desire, there is conflict. And where there is conflict, people fight."
"We have never really left that arena. We only changed to a bigger arena."
"Back then, we fought gladiators with our lives on the line. Now we scheme and risk our lives against the powerful."
"The only difference is that we have put on more respectable clothes and use more respectable methods."
Flying Ant gives a bitter laugh. "Heh... Henwell, when you put it that way, it really is fucking true."
"We only jumped from one arena into a bigger one."
"You have no idea. I am exhausted too. This damned Yinxin City is full of tangled forces."
"Although I am chief of defense, there are many people's faces I do not dare refuse. One careless move and I offend some big figure."
Henwell pats his shoulder and comforts him. "Brother, you took a risk to warn my people. I will remember this favor."
"Believe me, you will soon become a big figure too. You will still have to read some people's moods, but at least there will be quite a few people whose moods you no longer need to read."
Ruper freezes for a moment and is just about to ask what he means when noise outside interrupts him.
The person who has arrived is Alesha, a Grand Knight guard of the Marquess of Nothing. He has brought men into Ruper's residence.
Ruper steps forward and presses his hand to his sword hilt. "Alesha, what are you doing?"
Alesha glances at Henwell. "My lord has ordered Lord Henwell to come with him."
Ruper frowns. "Tomorrow. It is too late today. Tomorrow, I will go with Henwell."
Alesha says, "I said, this is my lord's order."
Ruper narrows his eyes. "And I said, it is too late today."
Ruper is not afraid of Alesha. Although he is only a Battle Knight, he is a peak Battle Knight.
With all the battles he has experienced, he is confident he can hold Alesha back.
Henwell is also a famous genius Grand Knight on the continent. If the two of them join hands, they can easily kill Alesha.
In any case, Ruper is planning to flee to the Western Federation. Killing his way out with Henwell now would be the perfect chance to seek refuge there.
But Henwell steps forward. "Since the city lord has invited me, I should make a trip."
Ruper looks at Henwell in surprise, then says, "I will go with you."
Ruper does not know that the Marquess of Nothing is an Iron Knight. Otherwise, he would have run long ago.
Alesha says nothing about Ruper's demand. His task is only to summon Henwell.
As for whether Ruper goes or not, he has not received any order about that.
As the nephew-in-law of the Marquess of Nothing, Ruper has the right to meet the Marquess at any time.
Next, the two follow Alesha and the Marquess of Nothing's guards all the way to the Marquess's estate.
Their residences are not far from each other, which is why the Marquess of Nothing was able to send people over so quickly.
Before entering the gate, Henwell looks at Alesha. "Leician was seriously wounded, but he did not die. You can rest easy."
Alesha looks at Henwell with complicated eyes. He says nothing, only gives a slight bow as thanks.
Ruper looks at all this in confusion. Leician is another guard of the Marquess of Nothing. He heard that Leician and Alesha did not get along. Why do they seem to have a decent relationship?
Along the way, Henwell says nothing more.
Not until he sees the Marquess of Nothing.
Now, the Marquess of Nothing appears unchanged on the surface, still seated calmly.
But Henwell keenly senses that this fellow has suffered serious wounds.
In the Marquess of Nothing's current state, someone who has just entered Iron Rank could easily defeat him.
Even if Henwell does not use the Shackles Of Civilization, he can still beat him until he crawls on the ground.
Right now, he can only bully ordinary Grand Knights. If he faces those elite Western Regions Grand Knights who participated in the castle operation, he probably cannot beat even one.
After seeing Henwell, the Marquess of Nothing says coldly, "Henwell, your subordinates acted with outrageous audacity. Are you preparing to declare war on Billie?"
Henwell shrugs. "Declare war? Of course not. I came to announce a few things."
"First, His Majesty Ulysses, King of Billie, fought bravely until the very end in the Battle of Sunflower Fortress and perished together with the remnants of the Veil."
"He was worthy of the ancestors of the Celtic family and worthy of the people of the Billie Kingdom."
"He sacrificed himself in the name of a king. He sacrificed himself in the name of His Majesty Ulysses, King of Billie."
These words strike the Marquess of Nothing like a heavy hammer, leaving him frozen on the spot.
He never imagined this would be the result.
But before he can recover from his shock, Henwell takes a scroll from his chest.
"Now, on behalf of the Billie Royal Council, I announce the following orders."
"The Billie royal family has suffered a great calamity. Three princes and princesses, together with the nobles of the royal clan, have temporarily formed a council to oversee the kingdom's affairs."
"This will continue until a suitable candidate is selected from the direct royal bloodline to inherit the throne."
"This matter has been jointly certified by the church and the empire and carries absolute authority."
"Next is the thirteenth order of the Royal Council. For the sake of the kingdom, the lord of Yinxin City, the Marquess of Nothing, is transferred to the capital to join the council."
"All military and political affairs of Yinxin City will be handed over to Defense Chief Ruper, while Alesha will serve as Ruper's deputy."
After speaking, Henwell displays the various seals on the scroll, proving the authenticity of the document.
Henwell first looks at Alesha. "Do you have any objection to the order, sir?"
Alesha glances at the Marquess of Nothing. "No. I accept the order."
Henwell then tosses the document to the dazed Ruper. "Friend, congratulations. You are now the acting city lord."
"But do not worry. Afterward, I will spend some money to smooth things over and remove the word acting from your title."
Ruper looks blankly at the document, then at the dark-eyed Marquess of Nothing, then at Henwell, who is grinning coldly.
Henwell kicks him. "What? Are you planning to resist the royal decree?"
Ruper bows. "I obey the kingdom's appointment."
Henwell turns back and stares at the Marquess of Nothing. "City lord... no, Councilor, come with me."
"The kingdom is in urgent need of an old and calculating elder like you to give advice to the young."
The Marquess of Nothing says coldly, "How did you do it?"
Henwell grins. "Heh... old thing, you should have expected this. As long as I came out alive, nothing good was waiting for you."
"How is it? This move of mine strikes straight at the heart. Compared with your earlier schemes against me, is it really that much worse?"
