Lore drop: The Laethrun Vein

The Laethrun Vein is a subsurface geological formation stretching for hundreds of kilometers beneath the Wilds. It is not a single tunnel but a moving network of water-filled fissures that open and seal themselves over time. Maps of it are unreliable beyond weeks. The water is always present, but the path is never the same.

Miners describe the sensation of entering the Vein as stepping into something already in motion.

The water is clear, cold, and aggressively buoyant. Objects dropped into it float unnaturally high, sometimes refusing to submerge at all.

Prolonged exposure causes muscle weakness and a persistent sensation of lightness. Some explorers report difficulty judging weight days after leaving the Vein, dropping tools or stumbling on stairs.

The current does not follow gravity. It accelerates in flat stone, slows on slopes, and sometimes reverses direction without warning.

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

At junction points, the water “chooses” a path, surging down one fissure while leaving others dry.

  • Thrixlee Crawlers: Pale, jointless organisms that cling to rock just above the waterline. They drop silently onto passing bodies.

  • Ulksheen Lampfish: Transparent fish with luminous organs along their spines. They move against the current without visible effort.

  • Mouth-Stones: Sessile lifeforms mistaken for rock until they close.

  • Never enter the Vein twice by the same opening.

  • The water remembers weight.

  • If the flow stops completely, leave immediately.

  • Sudden path collapse, sealing explorers inside.

  • Disorientation caused by reversed currents.

  • Reports of voices echoing ahead of the water, never behind.

The Laethrun Vein is listed for its instability and refusal to conform to known hydrological behavior. It is considered unchartable.
