Chapter 316
Si Nian opened her eyes and looked up.
Their gazes met and intertwined.
Zhou Yueshen's palm pressed down on her slightly, still holding her in place.
Si Nian's head was tilted up slightly. His thumb brushed against the corner of her lips. "How could I ever want you to leave? You are my entire world."
Si Nian's eyes grew hot.
The older man claimed he wasn't good with sweet talk, but when he spoke words of love, it was utterly devastating.
He always made her feel cherished and adored.
The hospital room was quiet, their breaths audible. His warm breath fanned her face. Si Nian's hands subconsciously tightened their grip on the blanket, her fingertips turning white.
Everything seemed understood without words.
Zhou Yueshen watched her for a few seconds, his hand pressing down again as he lowered his head to capture her lips.
Her hair was scattered in disarray across the white sheets.
Si Nian tilted her head back, accepting his kiss. Even injured, Zhou Yueshen was restless. Stirred by passion, his hand slid downward, pressing her waist against him with considerable force.
Si Nian instinctively grabbed his powerful arm, and only when her fingers touched the bandages on his body did she snap back to reality.
She didn't want him exerting himself while injured, and besides, they were still in a hospital room.
Si Nian's eyes flew open. She gave him a little push, and Zhou Yueshen pulled back, creating some distance.
Looking up, Si Nian could see his sharply defined jawline. His lips glistened faintly with moisture, looking rather indecent.
Zhou Yueshen's complexion seemed to have darkened a shade, perhaps from the strong ultraviolet rays here.
His arms, when flexed, were powerfully built, feeling like solid rock.
To avoid fanning the flames, Si Nian restrained her own desire. She reached out and touched the side of his face. "Zhou Yueshen, I'm a little sleepy."
Zhou Yueshen had been about to lower his head for another kiss. Hearing this, he paused, then gently pecked her lips. He drew her into the crook of his arm, resting his chin on the top of her head, and softly replied, "Alright, sleep."
Si Nian was genuinely tired. It was very late now, and the hospital, which had been somewhat noisy during the day, was utterly silent.
Leaning against the man's chest, she grew drowsy in no time.
But in her half-asleep state, her gaze fell on the curtain drawn around the bed at the back of the room.
She meant to ask what was behind it, but she was too tired. His large, warm hand patted her back gently and rhythmically, as if soothing a child, and she drifted off to sleep in an instant.
The blanket was small, and the bed was a single, but fortunately, Si Nian was petite. Holding her, Zhou Yueshen could manage to sleep.
He pulled the blanket over her, listening to her breathing gradually even out.
Soon, the door was pushed open softly. It was the nurse on duty coming in with his medicine.
Then, she saw Commander Zhou, who was supposed to be the patient, sitting by the bed. On the hospital bed, a small figure lay curled up under the slightly raised covers, seemingly fast asleep.
The nurse was stunned and instinctively looked at Zhou Yueshen.
His eyes were lowered, his expression indifferent.
Only when she entered did he glance her way.
One look from him was enough for the nurse to immediately lower her voice. "Commander Zhou, here is your medicine."
Zhou Yueshen gave a slight nod. "Leave it there."
He seemed calm, but his voice was very low.
As if afraid of disturbing the person sleeping on the bed.
The nurse was inwardly amazed. She quietly set the medicine down, then picked up another dose and walked behind the curtain.
The next second, she met the somewhat bloodshot, restrained eyes of the man on the bed inside.
The nurse was startled. "Fu..."
Zhou Yueshen glanced sideways toward the curtain.
When Si Nian woke up the next morning, she found the curtain around the inner bed had been drawn back.
Inside was an iron bed, but it was empty.
She was taken aback for a moment.
As she stirred, a deep, male voice came from above her head. "Awake?"
She looked up. Zhou Yueshen was half-leaning against the headboard, a newspaper in his hand, but his eyes were on her.
Si Nian made an affirmative sound but kept staring at the bed behind the curtain. "Was someone there yesterday?"
She felt rather embarrassed now. She had thought Zhou Yueshen was the only one in the room yesterday, and her attention had been entirely on him.
Seeing the other bed now made her worried.
If someone had been there, then wouldn't they have heard the two of them being intimate in the room last night?
Zhou Yueshen glanced at the empty bed, his expression inscrutable. "Mm," he affirmed. "There was."
Si Nian's face immediately flushed with embarrassment.
"Then why didn't you tell me?" She shifted the blame onto him.
Zhou Yueshen let out a low chuckle, his chest vibrating slightly. "I didn't know at the time either."
If the nurse hadn't gone in to change the other patient's dressing last night, he genuinely hadn't noticed.
Normally, there was only one bed in the room, but with many injured recently, it had gotten crowded, and extra beds had been added.
It wasn't really that strange.
Zhou Yueshen looked down at her. Si Nian's face was full of shame.
He found her utterly adorable. Last night, she had been so bold and daring when provoking him, and now she was feeling shy.
A woman who was only fierce within her own nest.
Seeing him still smiling, Si Nian felt even more indignant.
She had a strong feeling Zhou Yueshen had done it on purpose.
But she had no proof.
Because he seemed to be in an exceptionally good mood today.
Just then, a nurse walked in. "Commander Zhou, it's time to change your dressing."
Zhou Yueshen put down the newspaper. "Alright, leave it here."
Then he looked at Si Nian. "Nian Nian."
Si Nian: "?" Why are you calling me?
The nurse instantly understood and, after leaving, immediately gossiped with her colleagues: "Oh my, Commander Zhou and his stunningly beautiful wife are so deeply in love. Commander Zhou is incredibly gentle, holding her while reading the newspaper."
"Goodness, when I went in last night, I was shocked, you know? The injured Commander Zhou was sitting by the bed, coaxing her to sleep. What kind of family status is that..."
Zhou Yueshen waited until the nurse had left before looking at her, his voice deep. "Nian Nian, I haven't let anyone else change my dressing."
Si Nian: "...So? Call her back. I'm not that petty."
Zhou Yueshen: "..."
"Sister-in-law, I've brought you breakfast!"
Fortunately, Yu Dong chose that moment to rush in, giving Zhou Yueshen a way out.
He was carrying breakfast in one hand, holding Yaoyao with the other, and the two brothers followed behind.
Yaoyao's hair was a complete mess, clearly uncombed, and she was clutching a small biscuit in her hand.
Seeing them, she let go of Yu Dong's hand and ran over on her little legs, offering the half-eaten biscuit to Si Nian. "Mama, eat biscuit."
Si Nian smiled and patted her head, then hurried to get up and wash up.
Zhou Yueshen glanced at the medicine beside him, remained silent for a moment, and began changing the dressing himself.
"Dad, Dad, we'll help you." Zhou Zedong and his brother hurried over to assist him.
Yu Dong set the food aside. Noticing the newspaper on the table, he picked it up, glanced at it, and burst out laughing. "It's a story paper! Boss, you read this stuff? 'Wife discovers husband in hospital having affair with nurse, poisons him in a fit of rage'... Haha, that's hilarious."
Zhou Yueshen: "..."
