Chapter 26 : Master Danyang’s Blood
Chapter 26: Master Danyang’s Blood
Master Danyang’s opinion of Li Zhen had changed again.
This was also related to the changes in Li Zhen himself.
After resting for so long, his complexion had recovered considerably.
His head was still a little foggy, but it was much better than before.
So his expression was not as ugly, nor as irritable as earlier.
That restored Li Zhen’s original humanity.
Last night, when he had rushed to Cheung Kam-Keung’s place in a panic, his face had looked little different from that of an evil spirit.
“I have some talisman paper here. Although it wouldn’t do much against an evil spirit of that level, it was better than nothing — at least it could serve as a warning when the ghost approached.”
Master Danyang took out several sheets of yellow talisman paper from the inside of his suit and handed them to Li Zhen.
Li Zhen did not refuse when he saw the new tools; he accepted the talismans without ceremony.
He would have Fatty repay Master Danyang later…
After all, what he was doing was also to save Fatty.
Master Danyang then took another talisman paper from a different pocket, one that was clearly different, and said to Li Zhen, “If you can find its corpse bones at the bottom of the building, just paste this talisman on its navel (the sheng gate) and you’ll be able to lock it completely.”
Li Zhen looked Master Danyang up and down after taking the talisman, then suddenly said, “Master Danyang, could you give me some blood?”
“Blood?” Master Danyang frowned.
Whether they were feng shui masters or head-descending curse practitioners, they were very superstitious about personal items — hair, clothing, and so on — let alone giving their blood to someone else.
That was a rather presumptuous request.
If it had been asked of someone else, Li Zhen would not have dared, but he knew Master Danyang was a good man.
In the original story, after Master Danyang discovered that Cheung Kam-Keung and the others were haunted by an evil spirit, he had knowingly helped despite the terror of the spirit and ultimately died at its hands; his character left no doubt.
For a good man like Master Danyang, there was no need to beat around the bush — one could ask directly.
To Li Zhen, a feng shui master with real power was a walking feast.
Feeding the Red-Eyed Bat with Master Danyang’s blood would be far more effective than “feeding it chicken blood.”
After being fed chicken blood at noon, the Red-Eyed Bat had still been somewhat lethargic.
Li Zhen had not sought someone else’s blood to feed it because he had a better option.
Master Danyang’s blood was worth countless ordinary people’s blood.
He would have Fatty repay Master Danyang later…
Li Zhen pointed to his chest and said plainly, “My pet was injured by an evil spirit and still hasn’t recovered. I want some of your blood, Master, to feed it and help it recover sooner.”
“If it didn’t assist me, it would be very dangerous for me to go to the building tonight.”
Master Danyang hesitated a little.
Seeing that, Li Zhen knew there was a chance and hurried to add, “I will feed it in front of you, Master. I won’t keep a drop.”
Looking at Li Zhen’s pleading gaze, Master Danyang could not find it in himself to refuse.
He turned and saw that the sensible Fatty had already taken a small cup and a small knife from the car and handed them over with a grin.
“Heh heh, Master, this knife is very sharp — just a little prick will do.”
Master Danyang was even more speechless but did not refuse.
He took the knife and cut his left index finger, letting several drops of blood fall into the small cup.
“Is that enough?”
He stopped only when the cup was nearly half full.
“Thank you, Master Danyang!” Li Zhen took out the Red-Eyed Bat and shoved the bat’s head directly into the cup.
The Red-Eyed Bat spread its wings; its huge body completely covered the cup beneath it.
The moment it touched Master Danyang’s blood, the listless Red-Eyed Bat immediately became full of vigor.
It let out several strange squeaks, and its body began to convulse violently as if it were sucking the fresh blood inside the cup.
Compared with chicken blood, it clearly preferred Master Danyang’s fresh blood.
Its regenerative ability had already returned it to normal when it had been fed chicken blood, but its spirit had not recovered.
Drinking this blood should restore it to peak condition.
Master Danyang watched the Red-Eyed Bat and said earnestly, “I have never seen such an evil creature — so perverse and strange, it was truly astonishing.”
“The reason head-descending curse practitioners are so bloodthirsty is not only due to their personalities or the way they cast curses, but also because of the evil entities they frequently came into contact with.”
“Mortals’ minds were limited; communicating with such evil things for years inevitably corrupted them with the entities’ malignant temper.”
Li Zhen said nothing.
He wiped his right index finger across the cup.
He had Fatty run back to the car to fetch that black tote bag. In front of Master Danyang, Li Zhen smeared the blood on two of the Cross-shaped Effigies.
The slightly blood-stained Cross-shaped Effigies trembled.
A powerful wave of resentment burst forth from them; even ordinary people like Fatty and Cheung Kam-Keung felt uncomfortable and moved away from the bag.
Master Danyang’s gaze on the bag became extremely wary.
Li Zhen stuck the talisman Master Danyang had given onto the bag, and the Cross-shaped Effigies inside quieted down.
Master Danyang said, “That only temporarily deterred them. Such strong grudges, if not properly dealt with, would one day turn on you, their owner, and cause much unnecessary bloodshed.”
“You will need me to help conduct a proper sutra to deliver them.”
“That would be the best choice.”
After arranging a time, the group got into Fatty’s car.
Fatty drove first and dropped Master Danyang and the others off at Cheung Kam-Keung’s home.
Looking at Cheung Kam-Keung’s back, Li Zhen suddenly asked from the car, “Does your security department have a stun baton?”
Fatty in the driver’s seat said, “We do. It’s not very safe to patrol at night; not having something with some offensive power feels so insecure.”
“Later you go and tell your colleagues in the building that I’ll be going to the building tonight. Ask them to try not to remain in the building after eleven o’clock, then borrow a stun baton and come to Cheung Kam-Keung’s place to keep watch.”
Fatty turned his head to Li Zhen. “Aren’t you coming with me to the building?”
He knew that, in fact, Li Zhen had been dragged into this by him and had thus been targeted by the ghost.
Not only had Li Zhen saved his life, but he was also going to risk himself to go to the evil spirit’s lair.
Fatty felt a little moved.
Li Zhen’s next sentence erased that feeling completely.
“You’re too fat — you won’t be able to keep up when running.”
Fatty snorted, “I can still run faster than you.”
Li Zhen withdrew his gaze and looked at Fatty. “After you get the stun baton, go stay with your colleagues.”
Fatty turned to look at him.
Li Zhen’s expression turned serious: “You heard what Master Danyang said earlier about smashing his stove.”
“I don’t trust him. You watch him; if anything happens, don’t talk — first knock him out with the baton, then smash it.”
Fatty wanted to reply but heard Li Zhen add, “I am very, very serious about this. It’s no joke. If you can’t smash that stove, you will certainly die tonight. I might take a hit, but I certainly won’t die.”
When Fatty realized Li Zhen was not joking, his expression grew serious. “I’ll make sure to smash that stove to pieces.”
This involved his own life; he understood the gravity of the situation.
