Craved by the Wrong Volkov

Chapter 376: Escape

Back at Ronan’s primary residence an hour before Lucien arrived at the hospital

Natalia was lying back on her bed staring at the ceiling with a blank expression.

The night was deep but she had barely gotten a single wink of sleep. Her mind was reeling. She was cursing mentally over and over again

Why was that bastard hard to kill? Natalia didn’t understand. Lucien almost died. The accident was meant to kill him and with the damage he received there was no way he could survive but Raphael just had to show up and take his body away.

She had no idea where he took Lucien to but with the information that reached her about Raphael going abroad and coming back with the protégé Kyle Voss. Lucien’s chances of surviving were increased.

The Voss family had enough power to bring a dead man back from the brink of death. A laugh rang in the dark empty room. The sound was eerie and sounded like something straight from hell.

Who would have thought the one to sabotage her plan would be her blood? Natalia smirked.

Was she asking for much? The Volkov family was on the brink of collapse, and all she asked for was to drag that bastard with her but fate had never been kind to her.

Her gaze drifted to the space beside her. It was empty. She could count the number of days she shared a bed with Ronan. 29 long years and they have been nothing more than polite strangers...

Even a dog kept for 29 years gets some affection but she got nothing. She was exhausted from playing the role of a devoted wife

It wasn’t her fault that her husband loved someone else. It wasn’t but why did he have to be this cold? Ronan couldn’t even stand lying on the same bed with her. He would rather stay at another building to keep up the role of the perfect husband since he can’t directly move to another room.

He let everyone think they shared the same room while the bed beside her remained cold. If he had a mistress it would have made her better. She would have someone to blame for her failed marriage but he didn’t.

He was loyal to a woman he could never have. That hurt more than anything. Her hand gripped the sheets as the tears burned her eyes.

Her gaze was locked on the blank ceiling once again, just when she was about to drift to sleep her phone started ringing from the bedside. She pulled up her body. A sharp pain struck from her back making her groan in pain.

She grabbed her waist with her left hand and picked up the phone. Her eyes went wide seeing the caller ID on the screen. It was the nurse, whom she secretly hired to keep an eye on Amelia. She didn’t trust Amelia one bit...

She just had to make sure that bitch kept her mouth shut. Natalia was mentally fuming at how useless Amelia was; she couldn’t even keep a baby safe.

She picked up the call and a low voice drifted over. "Madam something happened in the hospital.." the nurse whispered and she felt a cold feeling grow in her gut. Her hand tightened around the phone.

"What happened?" She demanded. The nurse stayed silent for a moment before she started explaining.

"I went by the hospital director’s office earlier.." The other caller stated. She was currently hiding in a storage room. Her eyes were locked on the door scared someone might catch her.

"I overheard him say something about the hospital having a new owner who demanded the physician in charge of Miss Sinclair should be investigated.." she whispered then lowered her voice

"I didn’t get everything but they said something about fraud and the police coming over. Just 5 minutes ago the hospital was surrounded by the police like they wanted to capture a serious criminal. I don’t know what is happening but all the patients of Miss Sinclair’s wing have been cleared aside from her. ".

Natalia’s stomach dropped immediately. She sensed something was off. "Thank you for the heads up," she said, then hung up the call. Natalia’s eyes were cold.

She had a bad gut feeling and she wasn’t going to sit around and wait for the sky to fall. Natalia jumped off her bed and quickly rushed to the dressing room. She didn’t even waste time changing

She pulled out two big suitcases and grabbed a few changes of clothes before pulling the suitcase to a painting hung beside the dressing room. Her fingers traced around the picture until she found a button. She pressed the button and the painting slid away displaying a safe.

Her hand moved quickly she punched in the pass code then scanned her retina. The safe door opened with a click. Natalia pulled it open revealing a safe filled with cash and cards to her offshore accounts not forgetting her jewellery. She cleaned the safe, throwing everything into it.

After making sure her luggage was secured. She quickly ran back to the dressing room and changed her outfit. She swapped her wig for a blonde wig and grabbed a scarf. After she was done, she grabbed her phone and a burner phone left in her side drawer under the guise of darkness she pulled her suitcase down the empty corridor.

When she got up the stairs, Natalia didn’t bother dragging the suitcase down and just pushed it down the stairs, the both landed with a loud thud at the foot of the stairs that echoed through the empty walls.

Natalia was wearing flats making it easy to move. She sprinted down the stairs and picked up both stairs. She turned about to leave but was stopped by a curious voice

"Mum, where are you heading to?" Natasha’s voice rang. Natalia slowly turned to her daughter who had just emerged from the corridor leading from the kitchen. Natasha was holding a glass of water, she was wearing a white cotton nightgown, and the moonlight shone on her silver hair making her look like a ghost

"I can’t tell you. The less you know the better for you." She explained. Natasha was stunned

"Should I tell dad?" Natasha asked and Natalia shook her head.

"Don’t tell him. I am sorry but I have to leave." Natalia said, then grabbed both of her boxes. "If anyone asks, say you saw nothing," she said on a final note then dragged her box towards the side entrance that was close to the garage.

Natasha didn’t question her mother further she knew it was pointless but she had a bad feeling about this.

Natalia escapes in the dark of the night without a trace. Her intuition saved her at the nick of time.
