Chapter 389 : The Gentle Chant of the Windbird
Chapter 389: The Gentle Chant of the Windbird
Actually, what Janna wanted to ask more was how Rook had come all the way from the Turin wizard gathering place to here.
By all rights, since Rook was an undead creature summoned by Anthony-Rook, it should have been impossible for him to traverse half of the Western Continent on his own and fly from Turin’s wizard settlement all the way to the Elemental Soul wizard settlement.
Distance aside, just the Darksun Radiation outside the barrier of the Magic Tower alone was something a low-tier undead creature like Rook could not possibly withstand.
“It was the sender who spent a great deal of money to commission the Academy. By locking onto the Misty Branch on your body, they used a teleportation array to send me and this package over.”
After hearing Rook’s words, Janna still found it a little hard to believe.
She truly could not figure out who would be willing to go to such great expense just to send her a package, even activating a long-distance teleportation array.
Could it be Vivian?
After thanking Rook for his service, Janna accepted the package that had been delivered to her from across such a distance.
“All right then, I’ll be going back.”
“Lord Rook, if I may ask—how do you plan to return to Turin?”
“Caw, of course by train! I brought money with me this time.”
As he spoke, Rook even made sure to show Janna the tiny satchel slung across his side.
Rook taking a train?
Hearing his reply, Janna’s understanding of the autonomy and intelligence of undead creatures like Rook was once again overturned.
“Lord Rook, would you like to stay at my place for the night? Tomorrow morning, you can head out to the train station—”
“No need, apprentice. I can’t get used to staying in human rooms. Besides, I still need to make a trip back to the Death Realm first.”
“All right then———farewell, Lord Rook.”
“Farewell.”
With that, Rook ruffled his feathers, spread his wings swiftly, and under the clear moonlight, vanished once more into the night.
“Crows really are such clever birds.”
Even as she watched him leave, still curious about the notion of “Rook taking a train,” Janna eventually withdrew her gaze and shut the window.
“This package even has a protective barrier.”
Looking at the small, unassuming box in her hands, Janna dispelled the barrier with a spell and, a little impatiently, opened it.
“It’s actually from him? Fanpes-Necromancy?”
The moment she opened the box, she saw an envelope with a signature. And the signatory was none other than Fanpes-Necromancy, founder of the Necromancy Group—a business tycoon nearly one hundred and seventy years old, yet still looking refined and youthful.
“This is even a magical letter parchment.”
Just as Janna was about to open the envelope, a faint magical ripple flickered from it. The letter flipped, and a pale violet sheet with a blossom pattern flew out of the envelope in her hands, transforming into a palm-sized paper crane. Flapping its little wings, it hovered before her.
“Long time no see, dear Miss Janna. I apologize for disturbing you at this hour—”
As the paper crane’s beak opened and closed, a warm, magnetic voice came out.
“Mr. Fanpes?”
“The reason I entrusted Rook to send you this urgent package is because I just learned that you will soon be participating in the Andrew-Gamp Transfiguration Trial organized by the Elemental Soul.”
Realizing the paper crane was not responding to her but continuing to speak on its own, Janna knew this was merely a recorded letter parchment without remote communication ability.
“Therefore, I hope that during this trial, you will wear the latest line of jewelry from Necromancy Jewelry, which will officially launch next year. Of course, I have also prepared for you a special Wizard Robe for Transfiguration that I believe will suit you perfectly—”
At this point, Janna finally understood why Fanpes-Necromancy had been willing to spend such an enormous sum, even activating a teleportation array, just to send these things over.
It was because Fanpes-Necromancy had, earlier that afternoon, learned through some channel that Janna would be taking part in the Transfiguration Trial.
So instead of merely paying sponsorship fees to secure a limited advertising slot in the Glory Arena, the Necromancy Group had scrapped its original plan and now aimed to win the exclusive naming rights for the Andrew-Gamp Transfiguration Trial, no matter the cost.
“And lastly, I wish Miss Janna the best of success in this trial. Farewell!”
With those words, the paper crane reverted back into a letter and flew back into the envelope.
“The Gentle Chant of the Windbird—”
After putting the envelope away, Janna’s gaze fell upon the first black velvet gift box inside the package, noting the jewelry name marked in the lower-right corner.
“An entire set of magical jewelry!”
Opening the box, what met Janna’s eyes was a diamond necklace shaped like a turquoise bird and radiating rich magical energy, along with two feather hair ornaments encrusted with silvery diamonds, and a dark-golden bracelet inlaid with blue-green gems. From both their appearance and color coordination, these three alchemical magic accessories were clearly part of the same series.
Moreover, judging from their magical intensity, they all belonged to the wind-element class of magic accessories. Among them, the Windbird Necklace had reached the quality level of a Top-Tier Apprentice’s Witch Tool.
“The Necromancy Group really spared no expense this time, entrusting such precious items to Rook’s delivery—”
【Windbird’s Gentle Chant (Necklace): Grants the wearer flight at wind-speed and creates a circular air current that cloaks the body in invisibility.】
【Windbird’s Gentle Chant (Hair Ornament): Allows the wearer to conjure a shield of wind.】
【Windbird’s Gentle Chant (Bracelet): Allows the wearer to instantly generate a powerful hurricane against a target.】
Gently rubbing her finger against the turquoise diamond, Janna read through the function descriptions on each accessory’s anti-forgery tag. To be honest, she was truly tempted.
But upon seeing the exorbitant prices listed, reason quickly reasserted itself and cooled her excitement.
“As expected, jewelry-type alchemical items are always the most expensive among magical tools of the same tier.”
Closing the black velvet box containing the Windbird’s Gentle Chant accessories, Janna shifted her gaze to the black linen knit ribbon at the bottom of the package.
“This must be the Wizard Robe for Transfiguration prepared in advance by the Necromancy Group?”
Unlike the green-blue robes she usually favored, this one was a moon-white robe with a soft satin texture.
“The design is quite good, but the color doesn’t exactly match the bright, flamboyant style admired by the Elemental Soul.”
