After casually cleaning her hands with the [Cleaning Spell], Janna pushed open the window and accepted the white envelope delivered by the Rook.
“As expected, it’s an emergency mission letter.”
The contents of the letter were simple. It briefly described the recent surge of Shadow Creatures invading the wizard gathering area in Turin City. Then, it encouraged all academy apprentices to form teams and head to the Misty Forest to eliminate the Shadow Creatures.
For every Shadow Creature killed, White Coral Academy would award ten Academic Credits as a reward—undoubtedly enticing for many financially strapped apprentices.
“It's even a mandatory mission—”
The letter clearly stated that First Tier and Second Tier Wizard Apprentices could voluntarily participate, while Third Tier Wizard Apprentices were required to join the mission. Moreover, it included a quota: “Eliminate at least five Shadow Creatures.”
“Should I participate or not?”
Although it was a mandatory mission, failure to complete it would at most result in a deduction of final Academic Credits. For a top student like Janna, this wouldn't have much impact.
However, the threats posed by the Darksun Church and the vampires from the Shadow World to Janna were real and present.
“I’d better confirm with Headmaster Anthony-Blackcrow again.”
Back when Janna first sensed danger through her [Danger Perception] talent, she had immediately rushed back to the academy’s Magic Tower and found Anthony-Blackcrow in his office to report her suspicions in full.
After hearing her out, Anthony-Blackcrow’s advice was simple: identify the hidden enemy and strike preemptively with overwhelming force.

Watching Vivian’s puffed-up back, Janna’s smile held a trace of helplessness.
Yet behind that helpless smile, the worry hidden in her pitch-black pupils remained, like a thick fog that refused to lift—

In the dead silence of the night, Janna, holding the [Hidden Nook], emerged from the Vine Corridor.
“Aph, can you sense any Darksun Contamination right now?”
“I cannot, Master.”
Hearing the Celestial Finch’s firm answer, Janna’s anxious heart calmed slightly. But—
She clutched the Rook pendant at her chest. Ultimately, Janna chose to put away the [Hidden Nook], pulled on her hood, and entered the dense forest with the Celestial Finch.

Light shifted. Illusion shattered.
The moment the Shadow Direwolf destroyed the Mirror Illusion created by the Hundred-Eyed Specter, over a dozen emerald-green vines surged forth like man-eating serpents and instantly bound the Shadow Direwolf tightly.
Crackling—
With a blinding flash of lightning, before the Shadow Direwolf could even let out a scream, a bolt of thunder from the Lightning Cloud ended the one-sided battle in a flash.
