Chapter 305 : Snowfield Mammoths
Chapter 305: Snowfield Mammoths
"Vivian?"
"What is it?"
Once she realized the other party could hear her voice transmission, Janna finally relaxed.
"I thought that in your current state, you wouldn’t even be able to hear voice transmissions."
"How could that be? I’ve just changed to a different bloodline form. It’s not like I’ve actually turned into a snake."
Hearing Vivian's reply, Janna simply shrugged.
After all, during their last apprentice sparring session in Black Magic Defense class, Vivian in her bloodline form had entered a berserk state, and at one point couldn't even hear Janna's voice transmission.
"Come on up, I’ll carry you."
Looking at the thick, ice-blue serpent tail constantly swaying beneath Vivian, Janna thought for a moment, then nodded.
"Transform—"
As the spell for the Beginner Transfiguration left Janna’s lips, her figure shrank rapidly. In the blink of an eye, she transformed into a dull gray dead-leaf butterfly and landed on Vivian’s hair.
"Janna, your transfiguration is getting so good—it’s completely lifelike."
Although Vivian couldn't see it, relying on the Cochin Viper’s incredible perception ability, she could clearly "feel" Janna’s current lifeform. It was no different from that of an ordinary butterfly.
"Mm, let’s get going. Mr. Hellman might fly off soon."
Hiss—hearing Janna's words, Vivian lowered her body and quickly slithered into the snow with her tail.
Once inside the snowy environment, Vivian was like a fish in water. The surrounding snow had no effect on her speed at all.
"Vivian, after awakening the Cochin Viper bloodline, do you ever get the urge to hibernate during winter?"
As Vivian moved forward rapidly, Janna couldn't help but ask a question that had been troubling her.
Because, as far as she knew, the Cochin Viper, an ice-elemental fierce beast, would still enter dormancy during the coldest parts of winter.
"Of course I do. But my father said that if I want to go far on the path of a warlock, I have to suppress that bloodline instinct. Otherwise, my human side will eventually be devoured by the beastly nature—until I become a creature that knows only how to kill."
From Vivian’s voice transmission, Janna could clearly hear the helplessness, as well as the resolve to win.
"Right, I’ve also been curious about something for a while now—butterflies are supposed to fear the cold, right? But you seem fine right now?"
According to the fifth rule in the Gamp’s Five Transfiguration Laws: If you turn into a fish and don’t stay in water, you’ll quickly dry out and die. It could be inferred that after transforming, all biological traits of Janna were converted to those of the transformed creature.
Like the dead-leaf butterfly—though considered relatively cold-resistant—under extreme weather conditions like those in the Extreme Cold Secret Realm, any butterfly would only end up frozen to death.
"That’s obviously because I have the Sun Medallion. Otherwise, even without transforming, I’d freeze to death."
"Oh—right, I forgot."
Within the Extreme Cold Secret Realm, apart from the unchanging snowy scenery, many ferocious snowfield beasts were also hidden.
Just on this stretch of the journey, Janna had already spotted no fewer than twenty kinds of beasts. Fortunately, Vivian, who was now adept at avoiding beasts, fully utilized the Cochin Viper’s superior sensing bloodline talent to change course ahead of time, avoiding any danger.
"Boom boom boom boom—"
Just as Vivian continued on her way, a thunderous noise, like an earthquake, suddenly came from the right front side.
"What’s that? An earthquake?"
Feeling the tremors clearly, Janna’s first thought was whether there was an earthquake.
"It’s not an earthquake. A herd of snowfield mammoths is heading this way."
Snowfield mammoths?
Hearing the name, Janna’s first reaction was to recall the ancient creatures that only existed in the Ice Age of her previous life.
"Do they use any magic?"
"No—they aren’t extraordinary beings. But in terms of strength, they far surpass some extraordinary creatures."
Snowfield mammoths were actually just ordinary creatures?
Since neither the library’s Bestiary of Extraordinary Creatures nor the Intermediate Biology class had mentioned snowfield mammoths, Janna became even more curious.
"How do you know about them?"
"My father told me, of course. Janna, I’m going to hide under the snow now. Hold on tight."
Hearing that, and watching Vivian really burrow into the snow, Janna quickly cancelled her transformation and reverted to her human form.
"Flourishing Guard—"
While casting a shield on herself, a vine as thick as a wrist, vivid green, shot out from Janna’s long sleeve, tied around Vivian’s serpent tail, and the other end was tightly secured around Janna’s waist.
"Boom boom boom boom—"
Just before the snowfield mammoths arrived, the two of them successfully hid beneath the snow. Only after the mammoths passed did they emerge again.
"If I get the chance, I definitely want to personally hunt down an adult mammoth—"
"Watch out!"
Before Vivian could finish, Janna yanked her back with the vine.
Splat—
Sure enough, just after pulling Vivian back, a massive ice-blue centipede the size of a calf shot out from beneath the ground, landing exactly where Vivian had been.
"Ding—"
[Daily Quest: Complete one Icefield Hunt;
Quest Reward: 200 Talent XP, 800 Skill XP, one random reward;]
Reading the green text on the quest panel, a gleam of delight flashed in Janna’s eyes.
"It’s been so long—finally a green-grade quest."
Ever since she took on the red-grade Mainline Quest, all of Janna’s Daily Quests had been white-grade, with rewards barely at the "+0.1" level.
"Janna, just watch how I take it down—"
"No need, I’ll fight by your side."
Buzz—before Vivian could respond, a bluish glow of a contract flashed in front of Janna. In an instant, the long-absent Lightning Accumulation Cloud appeared in the center of the contract array.
"Hm? Did you contract a new summoned creature recently?"
Since Janna hadn’t summoned her fifth Contracted Creature during their last sparring match in Black Magic Defense, this was Vivian’s first time seeing Lightning Accumulation Cloud.
"That’s right, and it’s strong—"
