Chapter 246 : Ocean's Messenger - Anna
Chapter 246: Ocean's Messenger - Anna
"In the next class, I will conduct a surprise test, so make sure to review in advance."
Upon hearing Professor Uta's announcement, the class inevitably erupted in groans.
After all, compared to "Elvish", "Dragon Tongue" was far more abstract.
Besides the multitude of incomprehensible scrawled characters, the numerous lengthy and bizarre onomatopoeic pronunciations caused considerable distress for many students with poor articulation.
Even Janna had only managed to read a single short sentence fluently by relying on her [Muscle Control] talent to adjust her throat's vocal structure.
"No wonder so many Draconic spellcasters choose to modify their throat's vocal organs—without that, it's indeed difficult to master pronunciation in Dragon Tongue."
Letting out a long breath and watching Professor Uta leave the classroom, Janna pulled a water bottle from her Thorn Bracelet and took a sip to soothe her throat.
"Though the tones of 'Dragon Tongue' sound strange, it’s the language most interwoven with Ritual Witchcraft—"
White Coral Academy required "Dragon Tongue" as a core subject precisely to prepare for the second-year "Intermediate Spells" course.
A large portion of Professor Mary-Margaret’s "Intermediate Spells" class was centered on Ritual Witchcraft.
So, to lay a strong foundation for all students, Professor Uta was especially strict when teaching "Dragon Tongue".
Having just completed one lesson and immediately announcing a surprise test in the next was undoubtedly an increase in pressure for all second-year students.
"When Vivian returns, just catching up on the lessons she missed these past few days will be punishment enough."
Shaking her head silently, Janna recorded the key points into her notes and then packed both her textbook and notebook into her Thorn Bracelet before heading out of the classroom.
"Let’s grab something to eat at the cafeteria first."
Since she had only had a cup of iced coffee for lunch, Janna’s stomach was now uncomfortably hungry.
So, after exiting the elevator, Janna walked directly toward the cafeteria.
"Lately, not only has Vivian been missing, but even Bell, Marlowe, and the others have all vanished—don’t tell me they’ve all lost confidence?"
Thinking this, Janna immediately shook her head.
Regardless of whether Marlowe-Haig could withstand the setback, Bell-Moonshadow, who had been repeatedly defeated by Janna, was definitely not the kind of fragile female student to give up easily.
After a quick meal at the cafeteria, Janna looked at the sky outside. Seizing the time before nightfall, she returned to her dormitory.
"Miss Janna, there’s a package for you."
As Janna stepped out of the mechanical elevator, she saw her Door Spirit from a distance holding out a velvet-covered gift box from within the frame.
"Who brought this?"
Taking the box from the Door Spirit, Janna asked curiously.
"It was delivered by a messenger from the Necromancy Group. The messenger said this is their latest jewelry line for the year and that they hope you’ll wear it during this weekend’s performance."
"Alright, I understand."
Opening the door and taking off her witch robe, Janna casually placed the velvet box onto her lab bench.
"They say the Necromancy Group gifts new products to their spokespeople every year during the holidays. I wonder if they’ll include magical accessories like these too."
With that thought, Janna opened the box directly.
"Hmm? It's actually a complete set of jewelry?"
Inside the box were three pieces of jewelry: a sapphire necklace, a pair of earrings, and a brooch.
Though the craftsmanship of all three pieces was exquisite, Janna didn’t sense any magical energy from them.
"So, it’s a replica set—but that’s fine. At least I won’t have to worry about losing it."
After closing the velvet box, Janna set it aside and pulled out a crystal ball from her Thorn Bracelet.
Time for the main event of the day.
"Spirit Traverse One."
Activating her talent quickly, Janna in spirit form entered the sealed space within the crystal ball.
"La la—la la la—"
As soon as Janna entered the inner space of the crystal ball, a familiar singing voice once again rang in her ears.
But this time, Janna had sealed her hearing in advance, so she was completely unaffected and walked directly to the Deep Sea Mermaid’s side.
"Let’s do the purification here."
To prevent the polluted magnetic field on the Deep Sea Mermaid from affecting the magical plants in her dormitory—and for convenience—Janna chose to carry out the purification in her spirit form.
"By my will, I command you—summon: Celestial Sparrow."
With a flash of milky white light, the Celestial Sparrow, now in combat form, appeared beside Janna.
"Av, purify her. Remember not to use [Sacred Flame] yet, so as not to startle her."
"Understood, Master."
Unlike [Light of Purification], [Sacred Flame] had a much stronger cleansing effect, but also caused intense burning pain during the process—especially for highly polluted beings like the Deep Sea Mermaid.
Although Janna was certain that the Deep Sea Mermaid couldn’t wake up while her soul seal remained intact, Richard-Eva had said the seal was self-imposed, and there was no telling when she might break it herself.
To be cautious and avoid triggering a reaction, Janna opted for a gentler treatment.
"Begin."
Exchanging a glance with the Celestial Sparrow, two rays of light emerged—one from the emerald on the Celestial Sparrow’s forehead, and the other from Janna’s hands.
As the two lights gradually enveloped the Deep Sea Mermaid, strands of gray-black impurities like fine hair continuously oozed from her body and turned to ash, dissipating in the Light of Purification.
"How long must she have stayed outside to become this polluted—"
The impurities progressed from gray-black strands to thick, black oil-like sludge.
Under the continuous glow of the Light of Purification, it took quite a while before the foul aura on the Deep Sea Mermaid began to clear.
"Av, now—use [Sacred Flame]!"
"Coo—"
With a crisp cry, golden flames spewed from the Celestial Sparrow’s mouth and engulfed the Deep Sea Mermaid.
"Sss—"
With a faint crackling, the last traces of Darksun pollution within the Deep Sea Mermaid were completely eradicated in the [Sacred Flame].
"It’s finally over—"
"Thank you—"
Just as Janna exhaled in relief, a tender, clear voice suddenly echoed in her mind.
"Who’s there?"
"I am the ocean’s messenger, Anna. Your scent is so pleasant—"
