Chapter 243 : Purification Mission
Chapter 243: Purification Mission
The next morning, early.
After finishing breakfast in the dining hall, Janna-Roland arrived early at the public class lecture room on the sixth floor of the Magic Tower.
Even when Professor Uta entered the classroom and had everyone open their Ancient Magic History textbook, Janna still didn’t see Vivian appear.
"Could it be that she’s entered the Closed Cultivation Chamber again?"
Recalling the apprentice duel she had with Vivian during the last Black Magic Defense class, Janna couldn’t help but sigh.
Had she known Vivian took it so seriously, Janna would have gone a little easy and not pushed her until she fainted from exhaustion.
"Everyone, turn your books to Chapter One, Section One."
Professor Uta’s teaching style still had its strong sleep-inducing nature. In less than half an hour, a large portion of the apprentices in the classroom had their heads down on the desks.
"Actually, the second-year content of Ancient Magic History is far more interesting than what we studied in the first year———"
The first-year Ancient Magic History class mainly discussed the history of ancient humanity.
At that time, the wizarding group was still a bunch of mortals known as "witch doctors," who, apart from having some basic potion-making abilities, didn’t possess any other supernatural powers.
The mainstream extraordinary group back then was still dominated by knights and warriors practicing the Breathing Technique—physical cultivators.
As humanity entered modern times, with the widespread dissemination of the concept of Mental Power, early wizards—mages—emerged onto the historical stage.
Because of their remarkable destructive power and scarcity, the "mage group" once showed a trend of surpassing all other supernatural beings.
However, during that period, due to the struggle for power, status, and resources, many conflicts broke out between mages and the theology-based church dominated by knights.
This tension persisted for over two hundred years without any respite, instead growing increasingly intense.
As time went on, the mage group, continuously arming themselves with knowledge, gradually dismantled humanity’s ingrained belief in "theological supremacy."
At the same time, in confrontations involving extraordinary powers, they truly and effectively defeated the knight-dominated theological church and achieved absolute authority.
From then on, "mages" were renamed "witches," and the World Will was formally renamed the Will of the Witch.
For a long time, all of humanity took pride in becoming witches.
Because of this, the pursuit of knowledge by witches gradually influenced human society’s attitude toward learning.
Institutions teaching writing and basic knowledge became more and more common throughout human society—until the Outer Gods invaded, and the Will of the Witch fell into slumber.
Human history thus transitioned from modern to contemporary.
Professor Uta’s second-year Ancient Magic History class covered both the modern and contemporary eras of human history.
From the suppression of the witch group to the transformation into a group with absolute discourse power.
When Janna previewed this section before class, she could still feel the weight of history from the written words—
"Alright, that’s it for today’s lesson. Class dismissed."
"Goodbye, Professor Uta—"
Compared to the lifeless atmosphere during class, the apprentices became visibly more energetic after dismissal.
In no time, except for Janna who was still bowed over organizing her notes, there wasn’t a single other person left in the classroom.
"Janna, why haven’t you left yet?"
Just as Janna was about to pack up her textbook and get up from her seat, a familiar voice suddenly came from the doorway.
"Senior Richard? You’ve come out of the Closed Cultivation Chamber?"
Seeing Richard-Iva standing at the door, whom she hadn’t seen in a while, Janna couldn’t hide the joy in her voice.
"Yeah, I just came out yesterday. Thought I’d take this opportunity to relax a bit."
Looking at Richard-Iva’s always gentle expression, Janna also smiled. After stowing her textbook into her Thorn Bracelet, she walked up to him.
"Come on, dear Senior Richard, what are you looking for me about this time?"
Though the two were quite close, Janna, familiar with Richard-Iva’s personality, knew he wouldn’t go out of his way to block her at the classroom like this unless something special had come up.
After all, the White Coral Club’s regular meeting was only a few days away. If Richard-Iva really missed them, he could’ve waited and seen everyone at the meeting—there was no need for a surprise visit.
"As expected, nothing gets past you."
Hearing Janna expose his little scheme right away, Richard-Iva wasn’t embarrassed. He still smiled cheerfully and said:
"Would you do me the honor of grabbing a coffee at the Acorn House? My treat."
"Of course, no problem."
Knowing this wasn’t something that could be easily discussed here, Janna readily accepted his invitation. Together, they took the elevator down to the Acorn House on the first floor of the library.
"One iced coffee, no sugar. One Bloody Mary."
"Alright."
After ordering at the counter, Richard-Iva returned to the private booth.
"Would you like to order some desserts as well?"
"No need, I’m not a big fan of sweets."
Politely declining Richard-Iva’s rare display of generosity, Janna didn’t speak again. She simply sat quietly in the armchair and tidied the hair around her ear.
"Here are your drinks. Please enjoy."
"Thank you."
After accepting the iced coffee handed over by the server, Janna picked up the straw and slowly stirred the ice cubes at the bottom of the glass, waiting for him to speak first.
"Janna, the reason I came looking for you in such a hurry this time, is indeed because there’s a personal matter I need your help with."
Upon hearing this, Janna’s hand that was stirring the straw also came to a stop.
"Senior Richard, you know I only take on tasks within my capacity—if it’s something troublesome, I might refuse."
"Don’t worry, it definitely won’t be a hassle for you."
As he spoke, Richard-Iva took out a crystal sphere of pure blue from his interdimensional spatial item.
"I’d like to trouble you to purify something for me—something that is sealed within this crystal sphere."
Hm?
Seeing Richard-Iva’s mysteriously secretive demeanor, Janna couldn’t help but grow curious.
"Here, take a look."
Saying so, Richard-Iva handed the crystal sphere to Janna.
Taking the sphere in hand, Janna quickly infused her Mental Power into it.
"La-la—la-la-la—"
As Janna’s consciousness gradually immersed into it, a clear, ethereal song suddenly echoed through her mental awareness.
As the song became clearer, Janna’s consciousness inside the crystal sphere briefly became dazed.
But soon, the singing faded away, and the sense of disorientation vanished as well.
