Chapter 101
Chapter 101
This time our objective is the altar at the far end of the first floor. This labyrinth—pyramid—basically goes upward, but we ignore the stairs and head straight to the back.
"Solnyn, please watch the rear."
"Nyassaa~"
We've been attacked by Machine Beasts several times, but we've taken them down without issue. Solnyn's support is excellent.
Solnyn isn't a player, so I don't get debuffs from tension. She's simply an increase in pure combat strength.
Solnyn's armor is thick enough that most attacks don't get through. She shields me from enemy attacks, taking the hits herself. She takes enemies down with a claw-shaped laser saber and a bazooka that seems to come from nowhere. A heavy trooper who combines the traits of a Guardian and a Bomber.
The downside is speed. Inside the pyramid's narrow corridors her claws and bazooka still hit, but if we reach a more open area she probably won't be able to chase enemies. She'll only be able to provide suppressive fire with the bazooka. Incidentally, the sight of her swinging her arms desperately while running is extremely cute.
"This must be the altar chamber."
We stepped into an open space.
The ceiling is high, and several large torches keep the area bright.
The altar stands at the far end of the chamber, against the wall. It's ornately decorated, and on its top is a golden chalice.
(Put the photos here...)
I place the three black-history—or rather, cosplay photos of myself—into the chalice.
School swimsuit, maid outfit, bunny suit. A green scanning effect passes over the three photos. The altar then slides backward, revealing stairs leading underground.
"...It really opened."
"A bit narrow, nya."
I set foot on the stairs first, followed by Solnyn. Solnyn got caught on the entrance, but managed to squeeze through thanks to her marshmallow body.
At the bottom of the stairs was an elevator. I ride it and look at the buttons.
Buttons numbered 1 through 100 are listed, but ninety-nine of them are dummies. Only floor 23 actually exists; pressing any other triggers a trap, blowing up the elevator (according to Rabi-chan).
I press 23, close the door, and the elevator descends. It arrives, the doors open.
I step out into a dazzling corridor. Golden walls, ceiling, and floor. A red carpet runs down the center. At the far end is a door with three locks—beyond it lies the treasure vault. I already got all the keys from Rabi-chan.
(So like Rabi-chan. Flashy and gaudy.)
However, this passage has one more trap: an infrared laser grid.
"There are infrared sensors, so be careful, Solnyn."
"Nyassaa~"
I equip infrared-detection goggles prepared in advance.
(Ugh... Solnyn can't fit through this.)
There are a lot of beams, leaving only a gap slim enough for a slender human.
Touching a beam opens the ceiling, revealing countless laser guns. They'll turn me into a pincushion from above and trigger a game-over.
I step out of the elevator. A one-meter radius around it is a safe zone without sensors. I steady my breathing there.
"Solnyn, wait here."
"Nyassaa~"
I set foot into the infrared sensor forest.
(Whoa! Spy movies I've watched are flashing through my head! I've always wanted to try this!)
"Watch ou-nya!"
A soft object shoved me in the back. Since I was standing on one foot, I toppled easily.
Of course I hit the sensor, and alarms blared.
I looked back; Solnyn was scratching her cheek with a vacant expression.
"Solnyn~, why..."
"Almost got caught by the closing elevator doors, nya. Sorry, nya."
The ceiling opened, and countless guns appeared.
"Solnyn, stay there!"
I deploy two weapons.
(G-AGE! Hi-Odoshi!!)
A silver handgun and a red mantle appear.
"Enten!!"
The mantle erupts with red energy.
The simultaneous barrage begins.
Using Enten's flame-clad mode I deflect laser fire and race forward. I shoot the three locks on the vault door with G-AGE, unlocking it.
"Uooooooohhh!!"
Sacrificing shield pieces, I break through the bullet storm. Wrapping myself in the mantle, I leap and dive into the vault.
Enten mode ends, the mantle vanishes. I've lost half my shield pieces, but no damage.
"Huh...?"
A vast, bare space.
Already, there was nothing.
Save for one person, nothing at all.
"Too late. This is no longer a treasure vault; it has become a dueling ground between you and me."
A long-haired black Space Gull in a school uniform sat in majesty. The aura wrapped around her was that of a sovereign.
Crackling black lightning ran through both her hands.
"Y-you are..."
No way, it can't be...
"Do you know the fighting game 'Reckless Fighter'?"
"Of course. The AR fighting game, right..."
A globally popular game.
Its total player base rivals that of Infinity Space (counting both sexes).
Mentioning that game now means this person is—
"I am its world champion."
Electricity surged through my entire body.
My body snapped into full combat mode.
"World champion... Kamui Shindou...!!"
"Correct. My enemies there are gone. Seeking a strong fighter, I came here."
Kamui stands, spreads both hands, and directs killing intent at me.
"Don't bore me, Vault Cracker..."
