Chapter 238 : Liu Rushuang Came Visiting
Chapter 238: Liu Rushuang Came Visiting
. This was the second time he had drawn a skill related to culinary arts, and by the looks of it, the proficiency seemed even higher than that of the 500-yuan National Banquet Chef.
However, even though the skill itself was impressive, it was practically useless to him.
First, he had never planned on becoming a cook. If it was only to satisfy his appetite, there was really no need for such a thing, because he didn’t have high standards when it came to food. In fact, he was just too lazy to cook.
Second, even if he did become a chef, working one day a week — who had ever heard of a chef with one day on and six days off? That didn’t sound like a career path at all.
In the field of cooking, spending thirty years perfecting roast chicken was enough to make one a master. What he was more eager for now were skills from other areas — something new and exciting.
If nothing else, even a traditional Chinese medicine skill would do; who knew, maybe one day he could make a name for himself alongside Professor Li.
Of course, those were minor concerns. Though the skill seemed a bit impractical, it was still undeniably powerful — the most important part being its prerequisites.
Watching those few anime series was fine — just time-consuming — but what in the world was that “dark cuisine” about?
Even if a God of Cooking came along, frying all those ingredients together wouldn’t make it taste good. Worse, the task required at least 15 grams of each ingredient and a final product no less than 500 grams — and he had to eat it? What was next, a stomach pump afterward?
Even a dog might refuse to eat something like that.
Still, he wasn’t willing to buy anything else either — the other three products didn’t seem legitimate.
As for the weapons, there was that rocket launcher that could supposedly be blocked by barbed wire — and even came with a negative effect. Ridiculous.
The inflatable doll? “Guessed his preferences”? Yeah, right. Maybe it guessed that Sichuan Girl liked it instead.
And the baseball bat? Even more absurd. Who used such a thing for self-defense? “Unisex,” it said — it clearly wasn’t a proper bat at all.
Compared to those, the cooking skill wasn’t bad at all. At least he could turn into a top chef once a week and improve his meals a bit.
In fact, Lin Mo had a faint idea — perhaps he could even make money off this skill. It could give him a legitimate source of income, since among all the skills he currently possessed, not a single one could actually earn him money.
Of course, whether it would work or not still depended on the skill’s actual effects. If it truly worked like in the anime and movies — even at just a tenth of that level — it would be enough for him to make a good living. After all, those chefs’ dishes could literally glow.
He casually bought the item, and once the payment success message appeared on his phone, Lin Mo tossed it aside and lay down to rest.
He had a bit of a fever, so he decided to complete the prerequisite tasks later. There was no rush anyway, and he didn’t have the energy to binge-watch shows right now.
His parents, seeing the state he was in, could only shake their heads helplessly. After breakfast, the couple happily went out together.
It was the short National Day holiday — as parents, they wanted to relax too. Finally having some time off and with such nice weather, naturally they wanted to go out, have some fun, and catch up with friends.
Lin Mo slept until nearly noon — not because he had slept enough, but because he was jolted awake by a sharp, rapid knocking on the door.
“Who is it?”
Wearing slippers, a vest, and baggy shorts, Lin Mo rubbed his eyes and went to open the door.
As the front door opened, his cousin Su He poked her head in and called out loudly, “Auntie? Uncle?”
“Cousin? Why are you suddenly here?” Lin Mo asked in confusion, yawning.
Hearing no response from inside, Su He stubbornly asked again, “Can’t I come visit? Where are my aunt and uncle?”
“They went out to have some fun. My mom drove my dad to meet some friends. You looking for my mom?” Lin Mo asked.
But before he could finish, Su He took two steps back and shouted downstairs, “Dong Yao, Dong Yao! This is Dong Guai! The area is clear, no adults at home, security lifted!”
Moments later, Liu Rushuang, carrying several bags, puffed her way up the stairs and stopped at his door.
Lin Mo: .
“Eh? You—what are you two doing—”
Before he could finish, Su He gave him a push and strutted into the living room. “What are you standing there for? We’ve got guests! Go pour some water!”
“Exactly! Quick, little brother, give your sister something cold to drink. It’s scorching hot,” Liu Rushuang said as she followed Su He inside, stuffing her bags into his arms, stepping on his foot twice, and then slipping on his slippers.
“My mom said it cooled down after the rain. Why are you two so hot?” Lin Mo asked as he handed them glasses of water with homemade ice cubes.
Su He rolled her eyes. “It’s that kind of season — cool in the morning and evening, burning at noon. Look at the time, will you?”
“So what brings you here today?” Lin Mo asked curiously, standing since both women had claimed the sofa.
“Well, we just came back from your cousin’s blind date,” Liu Rushuang said, glancing around the tidy apartment. “We got bored and thought we’d drop by. You’re the host here — shouldn’t you entertain your sister a bit?”
Lin Mo’s home was a simple two-bedroom apartment, about 100 square meters. It wasn’t big, but it was spotless and neatly arranged — clearly the result of his parents being hardworking and tidy people.
“Don’t listen to her nonsense,” Su He said immediately, exposing her. “I saw my aunt’s post on Moments. She figured your parents weren’t home, so she dragged me along. If they had been, she wouldn’t have dared to come even if you paid her.”
“When we got downstairs, she still made me go first to check,” Su He added mercilessly.
“Ah! You wanna die? Shut up!” Liu Rushuang’s cheeks flushed red as she tried to cover Su He’s mouth. Then she turned to Lin Mo and said quickly, “Don’t listen to your cousin. Even if Auntie were home, so what? I even brought gifts to pay my respects! What a pity!”
Lin Mo: .
Did they take him for a fool? He’d seen everything that happened at the door just now.
“So, what did you bring?” Lin Mo asked.
Liu Rushuang looked a bit embarrassed. “Just some cigarettes, liquor, skincare, and health supplements — all from my dad’s car. Most of the good stuff went to Su Su’s family. I just thought I might as well bring the leftovers as gifts for your mom.”
Hearing this, Su He rolled her eyes. “You sure those were leftovers? You didn’t stash them on purpose?”
Lin Mo said, “Next time, just bring me a few gold bars. Forget the supplements — my parents’ bodies can’t handle such luxury. They nearly got nosebleeds from the cordyceps you gave them yesterday.
I’m young and healthy — next time, just give the good stuff directly to me. Or better yet, take it back and just give me the cash instead.”
Su He’s eyes lit up. “Why didn’t I think of that? Smart kid! You heard him — next time, just bring money!”
Before she could finish, she got punched. “Want me to burn you some offerings while I’m at it?”
Then Liu Rushuang turned to glare at them both. “You two really are siblings — shameless beyond words! I’ve never met people so utterly thick-skinned!”
Lin Mo: “So… cash then?”
Liu Rushuang: “I—You—@#¥#%&*!”
