Hybrid Animals: The Creator's Last Patch

Chapter 121 ‒ Shifting Echoes, Shattered Walls

Chapter 121 ‒ Shifting Echoes, Shattered Walls

The floor beneath Tyler shuddered violently, a deep quake that crawled up his spine and rattled his teeth.

He spun around just in time to see it: a colossal boulder, tearing through the labyrinth corridor like a living avalanche.

It wasn’t simply rolling — it was devouring the maze, pulverizing the towering sand walls that Tyler himself had failed to even scratch. The roar of its advance thundered in his ears, the ground quaking so fiercely that cracks splintered outward beneath his boots.

Tyler’s eyes widened. It’s… destroying the walls?!

His instincts howled at him to run. But instead, he dug his heels in, sword hilts quivering in his fists.

I can’t outrun it… maybe I can break it!

He roared, channelling every ounce of strength into his legs as he charged forward.

[Activated Skill: Ram]

He slammed into the boulder with a deafening crash. The shockwave erupted outward, spraying sand and shrapnel in all directions.

For an instant, he felt as if he’d struck a mountain — a sickening jolt shot through his bones, his joints screaming in protest. The force rattled his skull, a flash of white pain exploding behind his eyes.

Tyler was thrown backward like a broken doll, crashing against a sand wall so hard that cracks spread beneath him.

He staggered to his feet, gasping, arms trembling. It didn’t even slow down…!

The boulder roared closer, tearing apart walls, reducing them to splinters of dust.

His breath ragged, Tyler clenched his jaw. If brute force failed… then I need more force!

[Activated Skill: Gigantify]

In a violent burst, his body expanded, plates of armour shifting and reshaping as he towered upward. His feet slammed into the floor, leaving deep furrows. Sparks flew as his boots scraped and ground against the stone-like sand.

With a guttural roar, he braced both hands against the oncoming boulder, trying to push it back.

The impact was cataclysmic. The air cracked like thunder, grains of sand flying in all directions, slicing across his face and arms.

His massive frame trembled, fingers digging into the boulder’s surface until nails cracked and palms split, bleeding beneath the crushing weight. His feet sank deeper, the floor beneath him fracturing into spiderweb patterns.

The boulder didn’t stop — if anything, it pushed harder, shoving Tyler back, inch by inch.

His boots gouged long scars into the floor as he strained. Sparks danced in the air like fireflies, each one a fleeting testament to his desperation.

Tyler’s jaw clenched so hard it threatened to crack. Sweat and blood mixed on his lips.

But then…

A cold realization slithered down his spine. The duration of [Gigantify] was ending — and his strength was already slipping away.

As his muscles began to shrink, a sharp spike of fear drove into his mind.

“If growing didn’t work… then…”

His eyes darted around, searching — then caught on a narrow crevice in the labyrinth wall nearby, no wider than a blade’s edge.

“That…!”

[Activated Skill: Shrink]

In an instant, his massive form compressed, bones and armour condensing until he was barely one-tenth his normal height.

The boulder surged forward, now an unstoppable mountain of death.

Tyler dashed toward the crevice and hurled himself into it just as the boulder thundered past.

A deafening shockwave roared behind him. Dust clouds burst forward like an avalanche, rattling the walls of the crevice as he pressed himself deeper into the narrow gap.

Then —

CRASH!

The boulder smashed into the far outer wall of the labyrinth with a final, cataclysmic impact. The entire sanctuary shuddered as if struck by a divine hammer.

Cracks spiderwebbed across the boulder’s surface. One crack, then two — then they spread wider and deeper, glowing faintly.

With a sharp, echoing crack, the entire boulder shattered into countless fragments, each piece exploding outward before crumbling into fine dust.

Tyler squeezed his eyes shut, bracing himself as the shockwave rattled the crevice.

He waited… one breath… two… then opened his eyes.

Slowly, cautiously, he crawled out, just as the [Shrink] effect began to fade and his body returned to normal size.

Tyler stumbled into the open corridor, armour rattling, knees trembling beneath him.

He stared at the ruin before him — the shards of the obliterated boulder now reduced to drifting clouds of dust under the pale sanctuary light.

For a long moment, he simply stood there, breath ragged. Then a shaky, incredulous laugh broke from his lips.

“Heh… even the labyrinth has its own monstrous traps…”

His fingers flexed around his sword hilts, blood still dripping from his cracked palms.

I survived… somehow.

Tyler pressed his palm against the wall, head bowed as he drew in ragged breaths. Each inhale scraped like broken glass, the air thick and dry, burning down his throat. He felt the tremors of his heartbeat echo all the way into his skull.

But there was no time to dwell.

Forward… only forward.

He pushed himself upright, shoulders aching from the strain. As he limped around a narrow bend, the corridor suddenly widened into a towering hall. His eyes snapped upward.

High above, rows of enormous axes swung from the ceiling, their razor edges slicing the air in a timed, methodical cadence. The heavy whoosh of each blade reverberated through his bones, each swing carrying enough force to cleave a boulder clean in two.

Tyler’s jaw tightened, sweat stinging his eyes.

They’re so fast… one mistake, and I’m done.

He crouched, feeling every tendon in his legs coil tight.

[Activated Skill: Dash]

In an instant, he shot forward like a cannonball. Metal flashed inches from his face, wind howled against his helmet. Sparks burst as blades clipped against the edges of his armour. He gritted his teeth, ignoring the near-misses, the shrieking wail of steel carving empty air.

A final leap — and he tumbled out onto solid ground beyond the blades, his shoulder slamming into the wall.

His heart thundered, his ribs searing with each breath. He pushed off the wall, a shaky laugh escaping him.

“Heh… close enough to feel the blade’s kiss… but not today.”

The corridor beyond was narrow, eerily quiet. Tyler’s footsteps echoed unnaturally in the silence. Each step felt like stepping onto the blade of a knife.

Suddenly — click.

A cold shock shot through him. He glanced down. A small pressure plate sank beneath his boot.

“Oh no.”

A deep groan rolled overhead. He jerked his gaze up — a colossal log, as wide as a boulder, descended from above, swinging toward him with unstoppable force. The air trembled with its passage, debris rattling loose from the walls.

Without a thought:

[Activated Skill: Shrink]

His form compressed, bones folding inward, his entire world ballooning around him like a warped nightmare.

The log whooshed past with an earth-shaking BOOM!, close enough that its passing wind knocked him flat against the floor. His tiny hands scraped at the ground as he braced himself, dust exploding around him.

He felt his heart thrash in his chest like a caged animal. Thɪs chapter is updatᴇd by NoveI-Fire.ɴet

When the echo finally died, he scurried forward, body still shrunk, slipping past the log before it could swing back.

His body snapped back to normal, muscles spasming painfully as if protesting the sudden change. He staggered forward, pressing a trembling hand to his forehead.

I can’t keep this up… but I have to.

The next hall stretched out in an unnerving symmetry — tall stone statues lined both sides, each figure cloaked and faceless, hands clasped as if in silent prayer.

Tyler crept forward, each step a thunderclap in the tomb-like silence.

An ominous vibration prickled at the edge of his mind.

A sharp, metallic clatter echoed, like teeth snapping shut in the dark. The statues’ jaws gaped open in perfect unison, revealing narrow tubes that gleamed ominously under the sanctuary glow.

“Ah—!”

A sudden volley of darts erupted, slicing the air like a deadly hailstorm.

[Status: Affected by [Poison Dart] — Target loses 10 HP per second for 5 seconds.]

Pain stabbed into his arms and thighs, needles of fire racing through his veins. He could almost feel the poison boiling under his skin.

Tyler’s eyes burned.

[Activated Skill: Dash]

He shot forward, wind roaring in his ears, darts shattering on the floor behind him. His breath turned ragged and sharp, each inhale catching in his throat.

He skidded out of the statues’ line of fire, collapsing to one knee.

[Activated Skill: Undying Tenacity]

A warm glow surged from his core, sweeping the poison away like a tide. Tyler panted, his entire body trembling as the last venom burned out of his bloodstream.

He forced himself to look back, eyes narrowing at the silent statues.

They wanted to bleed me slowly, to break my will before I even meet the true challenge…

He clenched his fists, shoulders shaking.

Whatever this labyrinth is going to throw against me… I’ll face it head on. For Milo, for myself… I have to do this. I will.

Slowly, Tyler rose again. His footfalls echoed down the passage, each step a silent vow that carried him deeper into the shifting heart of the labyrinth.
