Chapter 96 ‒ Wrath Carved in Frost and Flame

Chapter 96 ‒ Wrath Carved in Frost and Flame

The ground beneath Tyler’s boots quivered, hairline fractures snaking out like spider webs across the molten streets. A hiss rose from the scorched ruins, as if the city itself were exhaling its last, pained breath. Ash drifted down like black snow, each flake melting instantly on the white-blue glow of Tyler’s frost sword.

Tyler narrowed his eyes beneath his cracked helmet, breath steaming inside the visor. In his hand, the Ice Sword pulsed, runes shimmering with a cold, ethereal light. Shindeon towered before him — massive, molten shoulders heaving, tail lashing with idle menace. Every horn crackled with red lightning, arcs splitting the night sky above Shindo’s shattered remains.

Tyler’s fingers tightened around the hilt. There’s no one else left to stop him. It has to be me… right here, right now.

With a sudden burst of speed, he vanished forward — [Dash] igniting in a streak of blue. Shindeon’s eyes, molten coals behind obsidian ridges, flickered briefly with surprise. Tyler ducked under the monstrous blade swing and slid across blackened stones, sparks trailing like dying fireflies.

He rose fluidly, [Berserk] igniting through his veins. The aura boiled off his shoulders, veins bulging beneath his armour as raw, feral energy coursed through him. Each swing of the Ice Sword left a gleaming arc of frost in the air.

Tyler’s first strike found a gap beneath Shindeon’s rib armour. The blade bit deep, and a muffled, explosive hiss erupted as frost spread rapidly through magma veins. Shindeon roared — a sound like an erupting volcano. He swung down a clawed fist, but Tyler rolled sideways, then surged upward with a backhand slash that carved another line across Shindeon’s thigh.

Molten blood burst out in thick globs, sizzling against the frosted blade. Cracks spread across Shindeon’s armour where [Freeze Core] activated, shards snapping like brittle glass.

Shindeon stomped, his foot shattering the plaza into a molten crater. Stone pillars splintered, fountains collapsed into steaming puddles. Tyler staggered back, breath ragged, frost creeping up his gauntlets and shoulders as he forced another slash into Shindeon’s forearm.

“Enough, insect!” Shindeon’s voice thundered, echoing across the dead city. Sparks scattered from his fanged maw, molten gaze narrowing with incandescent hatred. He spun, tail sweeping wide. Tyler vaulted over it with a backward flip, shards showering around him.

Just keep moving… keep breaking the armour… find the gaps!

Tyler roared, lunging forward again, frost exploding under his boots. A flurry of slashes — ribs, thigh, forearm — each wound hissing as magma steamed from inside. Shindeon reeled, claws clutching at his ribs, tail twitching erratically.

Cracks snaked across Shindeon’s molten torso like lightning branching through a stormy sky. Magma gushed down the fissures, spattering charred debris, sending up jets of steam. Each exhalation from Shindeon sounded like a furnace’s dying breath.

But then, with a sudden pivot, Shindeon steadied himself. He raised his blade high, horns glowing brighter than any forge. “Is this all? You dare chip at a god’s shell as if carving wood?! You insult me with these scratches!”

His molten claws flexed, red lightning snaking down his wrists and crackling across massive shoulders. With a guttural snarl, he stepped forward, towering above Tyler like a living apocalypse.

Tyler braced, heart drumming so violently he felt it in his fingertips. Not yet… just hold out—

Shindeon surged forward, clawing Tyler’s side with a savage backhand. Tyler flew across the plaza, crashing into a molten pillar that shattered into searing shards. A deafening clang rang out, echoing through the twisted ruins. He gasped, coughing blackened blood inside his helmet.

“Damn it… even with Berserk and the Ice Sword, I’m still—”

Tyler staggered to his feet. His armour crackled, shoulder pauldron hanging by scraps of metal. But his eyes still blazed. His vision flickered, tiny motes of light drifting at the edges. The heat pressed against his lungs, each breath a small victory.

“You look like a broken puppet,” Shindeon mocked, stepping forward with molten thuds. “Did you really believe you could imitate a god with your pitiful sparks and toys?”

Tyler activated [Gigantify]. His form expanded upward in a grotesque stretch. The ground cracked under his colossal feet, frost flaking off in huge plates as his body doubled, tripled in size. His breathing grew deep and thunderous, echoing across the ravaged city.

Tyler lifted his massive fists, coiling them for a punch aimed at Shindeon’s core.

Shindeon tilted his head, molten eyes glimmering with amusement. “You think I would fall to the same cheap trick twice, mortal?! You dare attempt to ascend, to mimic the gods? Laughable!”

With impossible speed, Shindeon balanced on his tail, knees tucking tight against his chest. Then, like a spring uncoiling, he launched forward with a devastating kangaroo-style kick. Follow current novels on novel✦fire.net

A concussive boom split the air.

Tyler’s giant form rocketed backward, tumbling like a felled tower. The shockwave flattened molten structures, flinging debris in waves. His titanic shape slammed into a distant block of half-melted ruins, sending fissures spiralling outward like broken glass. Lava geysers spouted where his back skidded, showering his armour in scalding arcs.

The entire plaza trembled as buildings collapsed, echoing through the night like a funeral dirge. Shindeon’s laughter boomed, each syllable rolling across the scorched city like an avalanche.

Tyler’s limbs twitched weakly. His molten-crusted fingers clawed at the earth as he forced himself to rise. His system window flickered, warning lights pulsing angrily. His pulse hammered in his skull, each beat a desperate drum of survival.

Shindeon bounded forward, jumping high. His enormous shadow blotted out what remained of the moonlight as he descended with claws extended, eager to crush Tyler entirely.

But just before impact, Tyler’s [Gigantify] expired, his form shrinking violently. Shindeon crashed into the ground, missing Tyler by inches, sending an earth-splitting tremor outward. A pillar of molten shards erupted, lighting up the night sky with a hellish glow. Tyler rolled away, fragments of rubble pelting him like meteorites. Even the shockwave alone slammed him sideways into the cracked pavement.

Tyler coughed again, blood dripping from his lips. His vision spun, system window glitching like a broken film reel. He clawed at the ground, forcing himself upright, breath ragged and scorched.

Shindeon rose from the crater, molten cracks zig-zagging across his armour. He laughed, deep and resonant, stepping forward with heavy thuds. “Run! Crawl! It makes no difference! All will burn in the end!”

Tyler switched helmets, slipping on the battered crimson Storm Wizard Hat. Runes flickered alive around the brim. He squinted against the heat shimmer that bent the air around Shindeon’s silhouette.

[Stat: Accuracy: 5 → 14]

After dumping all available points into Accuracy, he activated [Eagle Eye]. The world compressed to pinpoints — each frost crack on Shindeon’s armour magnified, each fissure pulsing like a strobing target.

Tyler clenched his teeth, sparks dancing around his fingers.

[Activated Skill: Lightning Bolt]

A blinding arc of blue-white lightning shot forward, slamming into a frost crack on Shindeon’s left ribcage. The armour exploded outward, magma spraying in sizzling jets. Shindeon howled, staggering sideways, claws scraping molten grooves into the plaza.

Tyler fired another bolt — into a deeper crack on the right shoulder. A violent eruption of molten shards showered outward, spraying across the plaza like volcanic hail. The stench of scorched minerals choked the air.

Shindeon tried to raise his blade, but his hand trembled violently. Sparks burst from his knuckles as if his very essence was fraying.

“You… gnawing maggot…” he roared, voice warped by fury and pain. “You desecrate a god’s flesh!”

Tyler charged forward. Each footstep burned with reckless intent, lungs screaming. He leaped over a molten fissure, ducked under a half-swing of Shindeon’s claw, and thrust his sword into another weak point at the base of the neck.

A booming screech echoed — a sound between a dying beast and a collapsing mountain.

Shindeon stumbled backward, his dark sword slipping lower, molten eyes flickering between rage and dawning horror.

Tyler sprinted forward, [Ram] activated. Energy coiled around his frame like a raging tide.

He smashed into Shindeon’s right forearm. The impact rang across the night like a giant iron bell struck by a meteor. Shindeon’s fingers sprang open, the massive dark sword flying from his grip, spinning end over end before crashing into the molten ground in a geyser of sparks and liquid stone.

Tyler dropped to his knees, panting hard, sweat and blood matting his hair beneath the helmet. Frosty breath rattled between his lips.

“I did it… I disarmed him…”

Shindeon bellowed again, molten saliva spraying from his fanged maw. He raised his fists, prepared to crush Tyler with raw force.

The two stood locked in that singular, thunderous moment — a lone mortal, frost blade flickering, facing the unarmed god of flame and ruin.
