Hybrid Animals: The Creator's Last Patch

Chapter 84 – Titans of the Abyss

Chapter 84 – Titans of the Abyss

Tyler stared at the system notifications, his chest rising and falling like a bellows. He felt a searing heat coursing through him. The effect of [Berserk] should have faded—but it didn’t.

His irises glowed with a feral light, and the corners of his mouth twitched, unable to form words, only savage snarls. His fists tightened around the swords until the hilts bit into his palms, drawing blood.

Why… can’t I stop…? he thought, but the thought was distant, buried beneath a tsunami of rage. It felt as though something ancient had awoken inside him, a sleeping beast that refused to retreat. His breathing sounded like an animal’s growl echoing in an empty cave.

He staggered forward, steps heavy and uneven.

Then he heard the clack of boots echoing from the far end of the corridor.

“Well, well, well! Look at ye, all covered in blood yet still standing… You cut through my men like fish guts on the deck. But tell me, fancy boy — do ye have enough breath left to face the real captain? Ahaha!”

[Enemy Identified: Pirate Captain, Level 102]

The Pirate Captain stepped into view, his massive frame filling the doorway. His eyes glimmered with amusement beneath his ornate hat, his grin revealing rows of jagged teeth. His body was a grotesque fusion of macaw and chimpanzee — bright plumes of red and blue feathers sprouted from his shoulders and arms, while thick, sinewy muscles coiled beneath a furred chest.

Tyler’s breath hissed between his teeth as his gaze fixed on the hybrid. His muscles coiled, ready to explode.

With a sharp snarl, Tyler lunged forward, using [Dash] to blur past the Captain’s guard, his blades slicing shallow cuts along the hybrid’s flank. Before the Captain could retaliate, Tyler twisted midair and activated [Forcepush], sending the hybrid crashing into the wall with a resounding crack. Dust and splinters exploded around him.

The Pirate Captain staggered forward, but Tyler didn’t give him a chance to recover. He sprinted again, this time driving his shoulder forward with [Ram], slamming the Captain into a second wall so hard the boards groaned and buckled. Sparks danced across the Captain’s stolen magma armour, but each hit left deep dents and fractured plating.

Snarling, Tyler crossed his blades, charging up energy. With a final, thunderous roar, he activated [Berserk], every vein in his body pulsing like molten iron. He lunged, blades crashing down in a savage, cross-slash that split the Captain’s defence wide open.

The Pirate Captain’s eyes widened in shock. Blood and feathers burst outward in a gruesome spray as Tyler’s finishing blow carved through him with unstoppable force. The hybrid crumpled, his face frozen in a grotesque mixture of pain and disbelief.

Tyler staggered back, panting, his blades dripping. Slowly, the red glow in his eyes faded, the monstrous snarl softening into ragged breaths. For the first time in what felt like ages, he felt his own heartbeat steadying.

He flexed his fingers, watching them unclench and relax as if they belonged to him again. A tremor of relief passed through his entire body, as though he had finally stepped out from under an immense, suffocating weight.

His eyes fell on a scattered pile in the corner — his inventory. Tyler hurried over, snatching up each item, his fingers trembling as he pulled on his magma armour and helmet with practiced efficiency. The familiar weight settled onto him, grounding him, reaffirming his identity piece by piece.

He clenched and unclenched his fists, testing each finger, each tendon. He felt whole again — but just as a flicker of calm began to return, the entire ship lurched violently beneath his feet.

The walls groaned and buckled, and an ear-splitting crack split the air like a cannon blast. It was as if some monstrous force had seized the ship and was turning it over like a child’s toy in the surf.

Tyler’s eyes widened, breath catching in his throat. Heart pounding, he forced his legs to move and stumbled toward the deck.

As he stepped into the cold night air, the deck unfolded before him in a scene of pure nightmare.

Moonlight glistened off the heaving ocean waves, but rising far above them, an enormous silhouette towered like a mountain of darkness. Water cascaded off its writhing form in roaring waterfalls, each movement accompanied by deep, echoing groans that seemed to come from the abyss itself.

Massive tentacles burst out of the waves, slick and gleaming, each thicker than the ship’s main mast. With horrifying speed, they slammed down onto the deck, splintering wood like twigs.

“What the hell is that?!” Tyler yelled, his voice almost lost to the howling wind and the violent crashing of water.

One tentacle coiled around a mast and wrenched it free as if it were a child’s toy. Another wrapped around the railing, snapping it like brittle bones. The ship rocked violently from side to side, boards buckling and bursting. Tyler staggered, barely keeping his balance, his eyes darting between the monstrous limbs.

Snarling, he dashed forward, summoning [Fireball] and launching it point-blank at one of the tentacles. The flames hissed and licked along its surface, leaving scorched suckers and blackened lines. Another tentacle lunged, and Tyler pivoted, using [Forcepush] to blast it backward into the sea with a towering splash.

But before he could catch his breath, a third tentacle whipped out of the darkness, striking him across the chest with the force of a battering ram. Tyler flew backward, smashing into the deck and skidding through shattered planks, his magma armour sparking from the impact. He gritted his teeth, coughing up seawater and blood, his fingers clenching around his twinswords as he tried to stand.

The ship groaned like a dying leviathan, its hull splintering under the crushing force of the creature’s relentless assault. Waves surged over the deck, swallowing barrels and crates whole, sweeping shrieking pirates into the abyss.

Tyler’s mind raced, heart hammering against his ribs like a war drum. His arms trembled as he staggered to his feet. His breathing came ragged, raw. Sparks of rage threatened to flare again, but he forced them down, locking his eyes on the writhing tentacles.

I can’t… keep up… at this rate…! he thought, desperation crackling through his veins like lightning.

Another wave of tentacles slammed down, crushing what remained of the quarterdeck, sending wooden beams spiralling into the sky. Tyler darted to avoid the blows, slicing at any tentacle that came too close. Severed ends flailed wildly, spraying blackish brine across the deck, but for each one he damaged, two more seemed to rise in its place.

The ship began to tilt sharply, almost vertical, creaking and screaming as it started to break apart. Tyler’s eyes widened in horror, his breath catching in his throat as he realized the entire vessel was moments away from total ruin.

Just then, a deep rumble echoed from the depths below. Tyler squinted through the darkness, his heart thundering.

“…Ugh, can this get any worse?!!” he roared, wiping salt and blood from his eyes.

From the sea’s abyssal shadow, a new shape emerged — a colossal, dome-shaped shell breaching the surface like a rising island. Water cascaded off its barnacle-encrusted back, each drip echoing with impossible weight.

Two enormous flippers churned the waves like titanic paddles, pushing the beast forward. Its colossal head peeked out from the shell, beady eyes gleaming in the moonlight as it let out a guttural, thunderous bellow that shook the night air.

Tyler stood frozen, mouth ajar, his knuckles white around his swords. The ship groaned and twisted beneath him, caught between two unstoppable sea titans.

His pulse roared in his ears, salt spray and splinters stinging every inch of his skin.

And in that fleeting moment, as the ocean’s fury converged on him, he knew — this was no ordinary battle. This was survival against the abyss itself.
