Reborn With a Magic System

Chapter 413 – To Release the Seal

Damion mentally eyed the quest completion and new quest notifications from the Magic System. On one hand, he was happy to be moving forward with his quests, on another he was clearly being moved in a certain direction by the System. It was becoming clear that the Magic System wanted him to solve the problem humans of the past created on the Mother World, how he was supposed to do that, he had no idea.

“You haven’t explained why the Alfar are against a more permanent solution,” Damion told Visneer.

"You are correct. I cannot speak to the Alfar motives, but they aggressively go after humans. Perhaps it is a holdover from the ancient war, perhaps they have another solution. Or perhaps they simply want to be the only race on the Mother World.”

“They can’t have looked at the evidence and come to a different theory on what the eventual result of the Mother World eventually running out of mana will be. Unless they know something you don’t.”

“My people have studied the Mother World and the seal for generations. The only solution is for a human mage to undo what was done.”

“Maybe. But I am too weak to be of any help to you now,” Damion replied. “Any enchantment that can last thousands of years is going to be powerful. Even if I have the skills to deactivate it, I doubt have the ability.”

“All that is required is a human true mage. You need not have skill or ability,” Visneer said, towering over Damion as the Iblis took a step closer.

“I don’t understand.”

The Iblis was looming over him, and he suddenly had a sinking feeling in his gut as he looked up into Visneer’s blood-red eyes.

If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

“The solution to unlocking the enchantment is the core of a human true mage. You don’t have to do anything but come with us.”

“I have the feeling that I’m not going to like how this plays out,” Damion said quickly. He then cast Blink and moved to the other side of the command room. “I think I will take my chances on finding my own way out.”

“Seize him!”

The other Iblis in the room sprang into action. Damion was quick with Blink and was dodging around the room, trying to get close enough to the exit to let him have greater freedom of movement. One there he was sure he would be able to escape. However, just as he was Blinking into range of the doorway the mana in the room ceased to answer his call.

Visneer had used a domain spell and Damion was suddenly a sitting duck. Before he had a chance to figure out his next move an Iblis hit him from behind and everything went black.

When Damion awoke he found his armor and clothing had been stripped from him and he was tied to an altar. He could feel the hum of magic around him. As his eyes focused he saw Visneer and Visault looking down on him and in the older Iblis’ hand was a sharp dagger.

“Is this really necessary?” Damion pleaded.

Try as he might, he could not call on his magic and his doom seemed inevitable.

“We must save our world. One innocent life is an acceptable sacrifice.”

‘System! Help me, you’ve got to do something!’

{Unable to comply. Host is now fulling his purpose.}

Damion’s face paled at the words of the Magic System. His long-time trusted ally, his ace in the hole. Only now was he realizing that everything the System had ever done for him was to lead him to this point.

Visneer’s dagger slashed across Damion’s throat and as his blood and life drained away his last thoughts were of Elicia and Helge.
