Chapter 377 – Go Back In
After Damion bid his farewells to Mage Teft, he and Phil headed home. As soon as Damion walked into the house, Elicia handed him Helge, who was covered nearly head to toe in what appeared to be tomato sauce.
“It’s your turn for bath time,” Elicia told him before disappearing. Damion suspected she was off to take a bath herself, considering the amount of tomato sauce that was covering her clothing and in her hair.
“How can a little boy who is not even a month-old cause such a mess?” Damion asked as he carried his son towards one of the spare bathrooms.
“My fault,” Bethany said to her older brother as he walked past her.
“How is it your fault?”
“I like ‘mato sauce and I though’ Helge ‘uld too, but he knocked over the bowl.”
“It’s okay honey,” Sharon comforted Bethany. “Helge is too young for that kind of food.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll get him cleaned up in no time.”
Once in the bathroom, Damion made use of his Clean Water spell to gently wash the sauce off his son. In a few short minutes the baby was clean, dry and in a new diaper and a fresh onesie.
“So, how was your day, son?” Caleb asked when Damion sat down in the living room holding Helge.
“Another five floors explored. Tomorrow, I think I’ll get into the D Rank floors.”
“Nothing too dangerous though, right?” Sharon asked, the worry evident in her voice.
“There really is no danger for me until the B Rank floors and even then, probably just the later floors since I have Phil with me. We are more than a match for most B Ranks when we work together.”
Damion’s confident answer helped to reassure his mother, but like any parent, she would continue to worry about her child. The idea that he would be in constant danger whether it was a mission, serving in a guild or order, or exploring a labyrinth was hard to accept. However, she knew this was the path he had chosen.
“Find anything interesting?” Caleb asked.
Since he did not have anything else to talk about, Damion spent the time until dinner walking his family through the floors he explored today. Elicia emerged halfway through and took Helge for a feeding and to be put down before the rest of the family ate their dinner. By the time the evening was over, and Damion was laying in bed with Elicia waiting for morning to come, he could not help but feel he had somehow landed nearly the perfect life.
In fact, if it was not for the Magic System driving him towards some unknown goal, Damion felt things could not be any better than they currently were. However, the Magic System was without a doubt the largest factor in his success. Without it he would never have made it this far or be as powerful as he was or perhaps he would not even be a mage. Since he owed that much to the System, despite not knowing how to proceed with what the System wanted of him, continuing to work on the quests from the System seemed the only thing to do.

The next morning Damion found Mage Teft waiting for him at the labyrinth entrance with the attendant that had his 10 E Rank cores. After storing the cores and letting the System convert them to credits, he was eager to find out what his mentor was doing here today.
“Since you have only reached a depth of ten floors, I’ve decided to come with you.”
“But why?” Damion asked. Was it just that he was not moving fast enough? Or did she think he was going to run into problems.
“The sooner we get the high Rank floors unlocked the sooner we can begin to open the labyrinth up to others and recruit people. Word has already gone out. We are beginning to receive requests to move to Atlantis from guilds who want to stake an early claim to the labyrinth.”
“Do they know the requirements for entering the labyrinth?” Damion asked.
“They have been made aware.”
“And these people are willing to move their entire families here?”
“Some are. Some are waiting to see how events progress. A few of the noble families have been critical of our claim and conditions. Leading people to question if our claims are true and if we are to be trusted. After all, the only way to reach this place is by Portal. So once here, most people will be stuck.”
“Which is why we need to release the information about the labyrinth right away. If we show them hard data of the labyrinth, it will prove we are telling the truth. Then they just have to decide if they want to move to a new place or not.”
“Precisely. This means that today our goal is to reach the A Rank floors.”
“A Rank?”
“Yes. We need to show high Rankers they have the ability to grow here. Once the elders, patriarchs and matriarchs of families see the availability of entry into a labyrinth, we will attract plenty of people.”
“That is great. I just have one questions, what about Spatial mages?”
“Spatial mages or mages that have the Spatial affinity, but at a low Rank or low talent?”
“Either I guess. If we are limited who and how many people we bring over, can’t any Spatial mage we allow in open Portals to let in anyone?”
“You are measuring yourself against the riffraff again. Only true Spatial mages can learn portal. It is a tier 3 spell, not easy to learn or easy to gain access to for most mages with the Spatial affinity. And aside from Ingrid’s family and Arica, all the other true Spatial mages are part of one of the noble families and I doubt the nobles will let one of their most precious assets come here, not when they are constantly slaving away for the family already.”
“So, all the mages with the Spatial affinity that work with guilds and adventurer teams don’t know Portal?”
“Most only know Telekinesis and Spatial Storage. A few are able to learn Blink. But learning a tier 3 spell requires a high affinity and high magic talent. Without both, a mage could spend a lifetime and not master a tier 3 spell.”
“You learned a tier 4 spell.”
“After I reached S Rank. After reaching C Rank your lifeforce has continued to grow with your magic power. And at B Rank your magic regeneration increased exponentially, and it is now nearly impossible for something under B Rank to even harm you. At A Rank you will experience additional changes. At S Rank it became possible for me to learn higher tier spells. Since you don’t have that difficulty, I’m not sure what you will gain, but it should be something remarkable.”
“Has Mage Thresbane shared what he gained for reaching SS Rank?”
“He has not,” Mage Teft answered quickly. “But I have also not asked. I am far from the magic power required for SS Rank, so such knowledge would be pointless now.”
“Did you at least find out what level of magic power you need to reach to be SS Rank?”
“I did, 5,000,000.”
