Reborn With a Magic System

Chapter 337 – Spatial Affinity Dungeon

Axton Veers moved quickly between the remaining Realm Breaches and Damion could hardly believe how fast he was entering and leaving. He would have thought the Void mage would at least need to reset in between wiping out the Demonic Beasts at each entrance, but that did not appear to be the case.

After coming out of the last dungeon, Mage Veers approached Damion and the S Rank Mage Levine to report his progress.

“All the Demonic Beasts at the entrances of the Realm Breaches have eradicated.”

“Anything interesting to report?” Mage Levine asked.

“Each of the Breaches appeared to have been aligned with a different affinity. We had already cleared Wood and Earth, and the remaining six were comprised of Fire, Water, Spatial, Ice, Wind and Metal.”

“Well, it seems a few of the clear team will be happy,” Mage Levine looked to Damion, who was just a bit more eager than everyone else to get into the dungeons. “I think it only fair to give exploration rights to the people with the appropriate affinity, the rest of you can go into which ever dungeon you’d like, so long as everyone goes in pairs.”

“Which one is which?” Damion asked Mage Veers.”

“That one is the Spatial affinity dungeon,” the Void mage pointed to the furthest Breach.

Damion immediately started heading towards the Breach but was stopped by Mage Guptill.

“Didn’t you hear what Mage Levine said? We go in pairs.”

“Oh. Well, want to come along?” Damion asked the Light mage.

“What if we encounter something in there?”

“Don’t worry so much. Mage Veers took out all the creatures. Unless an Alfar has stuck around, most likely there won’t be anything in there to find.”

“Then why are you so eager to go in?”

“Because there might be something in there to find. A Heavenly Spatial Enhancement Fruit would be quite the find. And while I don’t hold out a lot of hope, who’s to say it isn’t possible.”

“Fine, I’ll go with you. But if we encounter anything we’re retreating right away.”

“Anything? So, if we see a fly we need to run away?”

“Of course not.”

“What about a cloud?” Damion asked as they reached the entrance to the Breach.

“Only things that are dangerous,” Mage Guptill said, feeling a bit frustrated with Damion’s sudden playfulness.

Once inside the Breach they found bits and pieces of various Demonic Beasts, but nothing larger than fist sized. Damion was not sure how Mage Veers’ Void spell worked, but he was very good at dicing up creatures.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

“I’m not seeing any cores in this mess,” Mage Guptill told Damion as she gingerly stepped around piles of Demonic Beast remains.

“According to my auto-mapper, the core of the dungeon is that way,” Damion said, pointing towards straight away from the Breach entrance. “Should be a kilometer or so, but not too far away.”

“Any signs of Demonic Beasts?”

“Maybe,” Damion said showing the healer his tablet. “There is a bit of movement, but I don’t know what it represents.”

Mage Guptill looked at the tablet and saw something moving around, but the way it moved, was not like normal creatures moved. Instead of moving from one location to the next, the dot on the screen vanished and appeared in another location not far away. Almost as if it was jumping from one location to the next.

“Are you sure your tablet isn’t malfunctioning?”

“It was working fine before, and our dots are jumping around like that.” Updates are released by NoveIꜰire.net

“Then it must be a Spatial affinity Demonic Beast that can teleport. And it is teleporting from place to place.”

Damion watched the dot continue to move around on his screen. He could not disagree with Mage Guptill’s reasoning, but something seemed off. Demonic Beasts, while could use abilities and mana in ways similar to humans, had an innate weakness, they could not consciously recover their mana or increase their magic power. As a Demonic Beast grew, its mana capacity increased and its magic power naturally rose, but they could not recover spent mana like humans could by meditating or taking potions. Which meant that this Demonic Beast that was popping around either had crazy high mana recovery like Damion did, crazy high mana capacity, or it was not a Demonic Beast at all.

Whichever was the case, there was only one way to find out.

“We aren’t going to find answers here, let’s go take a look,” Damion told Mage Guptill.

“You aren’t afraid it is a powerful Demonic Beast?”

“I’m not sure what it is, but the way it is moving around means it probably isn’t a Demonic Beast, or well, probably not a normal one.”

“What makes you say that?”

“Why would a Demonic Beast be using its magic abilities to teleport around an area for no reason.”

“What?” Mage Guptill asked as she realized Damion was right.

“Demonic Beasts use their abilities to attack or defend. There is nothing around it, so why is it teleporting around. And why in the same area? If it was a Demonic Beast trying to escape something, wouldn’t it teleport away?”

“Alright, you’ve convinced me. Let’s go check out what it is. Then we can destroy the core and get out of here.”

The two quickly made their way towards the dungeon core and the bouncing dot, not sparing much time to search the surroundings on their way. With True Sight, Damion was able to detect anything with a Rank and nothing had caught his interest.

As they traveled, Damion tried to sense any Spatial fluctuations or anomalies, but he had no luck. For a Spatial affinity dungeon, there seemed to be very little about the Breach that linked it to the Spatial affinity.

‘Could Mage Veers have been wrong?’ Damion thought. ‘He probably thought it was Spatial affinity because of the Demonic Beasts he encountered at the entrance, but what if it was just dumb luck he encountered Spatial affinity beasts?’

However, as much as Damion was in doubt about this being a Spatial affinity dungeon, there was one fact that still pointed to it. The dot bouncing around the map on his tablet.

When they finally reached the area with where the dungeon core was, Damion looked around the clearing, trying to figure out if there was anything unusual or valuable in the area. All he saw was a garden that had been picked clean. Farm plots had been uprooted, plants that once were probably flowering or had some type of fruit or vegetable on them were stripped bare. Clearly this was a farm, very similar to the one they had encountered in the first Realm Breach, only it had already been picked clean before their arrival.

While standing at the edge of the farm looking around, Damion saw for a brief moment something flash, just for a moment. Then it flashed again further away. A moment later he caught the flash on the edge of his peripheral vision to his left, then on his right.

Whatever the thing was, it was without a doubt teleporting around. Now that Damion was close, he could even detect the fluctuations of Spatial mana being left behind. The problem though, was that the thing appeared and vanished in the blink of an eye. How was he supposed to tell what it was when he could not even get a good look at it.
