Reborn With a Magic System

Chapter 334 – Void Magic

“Mage Veers, are you taking command?” Mage Adair asked the A Rank Void mage.

The initial clear team had come together with the four mages sent to scout earlier and Mage Veers. Overall command belonged to Julia Levine, as the undisputed highest Rank mage here, she was in charge, but she did not seem to care who led the teams into the dungeon. The four mages left out of the first clear, Wind mage Nathan Sorin, Fire mage Diane Moretti, Wood mage Adriel Strand and Ice mage Brian Galindo were each eager for their own turn. Mage Strand was particularly annoyed at missing out on the Wood affinity Heavenly Enhancement Fruits, given her family specialized in Wood affinities there was a good chance that someone in her family could have made use of those fruits.

“I think it is important that we clear these dungeons quickly,” Mage Veers told Mage Adair. “You only faced off against one Alfar last time. What if when you go into the next one an army is waiting for you?”

“Are you claiming to be able to fight an army?”

“I’m saying you need to be prepared. And if you aren’t, then people are going to get hurt.”

“Enough,” Julia Levine said, holding up a hand. “We have no way of knowing what the Alfar have done to the dungeons. One thing is for certain though, if we do not get moving the dungeons will either be cleared out by the Alfar or they will have more time to set up whatever ambush they are intending.”

“Agreed,” both Veers and Adair said.

“I want you both to go in, Mage Veers will lead the scouts with Mage Picard assigned to your team as well to make up the numbers. Mage Adair you will lead your previous team in. Once inside, coordinate your efforts. Remember, these are first clears. Speed is more important than spoils. That said, Mage Picard, do try and collect as much as possible.”

Damion nodded. He was being traded from one team to another, but since he was going into the Realm Breach with everyone else, he did not care. Aside from the first dungeon they had gone in, none of the Breaches had vanished. This told Damion the Alfar was probably busy trying to harvest as much as they could from the dungeons before the humans could return. And now it was time to see if his guess was right.

“Now, stop wasting time and get in there. We all have better things to do than wait around for dungeon breaks to happen,” Mage Levine shooed the group of mages towards the Breaches, leaving Mage Adair and Mage Veers to decide who would go through first.

By the time the pair got to the Breach, both walked through at the same time. Followed by the rest of the team members. Damion and Mage Guptill went through last, since they were the weakest. When he appeared inside the Realm Breach a split second later, he was surprised by what he found.

On entering the dungeon, Mage Veers and Mage Adair were set upon by B Rank Demonic Beasts as well as a large number of weaker beasts. However, even though these were peak B Rank Demonic Beasts and several dozen Demonic Beasts C Rank and below, Mages Veers and Adair were both approaching the peak of A Rank. By the time Damion entered the dungeon, just a few seconds behind them, the Demonic Beasts were already wiped out.

“Any sign of the guardian?” Mage Moretti asked as he looked around.

“No,” Mage Veers answered. “Looks like the Alfar lured all the Demonic Beasts in the dungeon to the gate. Most likely they have already fled with everything they could harvest. Let’s take a look around and see what we can find.”

No one objected to Mage Veers’ suggestion, so the two teams split up to explore. Damion quickly collected what was left of the B Rank Demonic Beasts, but whatever spell Mage Veers had used had left virtually nothing of the lower Rank creatures that were at the gate.

Mage Veers had his own auto-mapper and was looking to his tablet to navigate. The Void mage seemed intent on finding the dungeon core before Mage Adair and was moving rather quickly over the rough terrain of the Realm Breach.

The ground of the dungeon was rocky, with very little vegetation growing and even fewer signs of water. If the previous dungeon was aligned with Wood because of the heavy forested area, then this one might just be Earth or Stone.

“Umm, Mage Veers, how did you wipe out so many Demonic Beasts at once?” Damion asked as they trekked through the dungeon.

“How does your Exile spell work?” Mage Veers asked.

“It banishes my target from this realm.”

“Spatial magic’s Exile forces your target to another dimension or maybe sends them far away, no one really knows, but since no one has ever returned after being hit with Exile it doesn’t really matter. Void magic truly removes them from existence.”

“Removes them?” Damion asked, he felt a bit dazed at the idea of such power.

However, such powerful magic had to come with a high price. Void magic was one of the only affinities that Mage Teft had not delivered any spells for when she raided Silver Spire Magic Academy’s Repository. Not even tier 1 spells were included in the library of spells she gave him. This told Damion that either Silver Spire did not have any spells for Void magic, which was possible, though highly unlikely. Or all the spells of Void magic were considered restricted.

“Yes. Things hit with Void magic cease to exist.”

“I’ve never read anything about Void magic, with such an effect, does that mean all your spells are restricted?”

“Oh yes. Void magic itself is restricted. Not only is every spell dangerous to its user, damage done by Void magic is not easily repaired.” The source of thɪs content is NoveI-Fire.ɴet

“You mean, it stops Holy and Light magic from healing?”

“I mean that when something is destroyed by the Void, it is as if it never was. If I sliced one of your fingers off, it is nearly impossible for a Holy and Light mage to reattach it. To do so, they need a higher magic power than me and there are not that many S Rank Holy and Light mages. Who knows what they would ask of you if you wanted them to heal you.”

“Sounds like the Mage Association has invested a lot into you.”

“When it comes to Void magic, the Mage Association only allows people that go through intense training, physically and psychologically to even learn tier 1 spells. Not that there are many candidates. Void is a true legendary affinity. In this era, there have only been six people found with Void as an affinity and from that small group, I’m the only one that passed the trials to be able to learn actual magic. The others were all forced to go off and train as knights.”

“With how powerful Void magic is, I guess the Mage Association is really pushing you to reach S Rank. Do you think you will be able to push back the Black Zones once you reach that point?”

“I’ll be able to help in the Black Zones for sure. But don’t talk about pushing a Black Zone back carelessly. Black Zones are filled with S Rank Demonic Beasts, some of which are thousands of years old. Even when all of humanities S Rank mages work together, pushing back a Black Zone is not an easy feat.”
