Magical Engineering

Chapter 202: Not Quite an Ally

I wished I had had time to sleep on this conversation, but we needed that spike in as soon as possible. That meant I needed to face the only core that managed to get inside my head since Corey. No matter the fact that I was stressed, tired, and desperate for its help. It was almost certainly a recipe for disaster, which was why I pulled up a chat window. I needed the cores.

Dave: Alpha, I know you are stuck with the gate at the moment, but hopefully we can get you off of that soon.

Alpha: Okay, Travelers are nice.

Dave: Good. Corey, Beta, Gamma, I’m going to need all three of your help with this new core. Gamma is very familiar with our last experience, but we need to explain to it that we don’t want to hurt it.

Corey: I will do my best to make them understand. Perhaps with our shared experience meeting you, Dave, I can have more success.

Gamma: I do not like them, but I will help.

Beta: They must be brought to heel for the Empire!

Dave: While I appreciate the thought, Beta, we don’t want them to surrender. The goal is to get them to agree. We need their help, and they have a right to refuse. I hope they don’t, but as it’s their life, I will not force them.

Karlinovo: I understand the sentiment, but keep in mind that if they don’t agree, I don’t know what we will do.

Dave: I won’t be enslaving anyone. So, what we will do is find another way if we have to.

Karlinovo: Good. Keep that up, and I must respect you as a leader.

Maud: Good luck, oh, and Ernie says hi!

Karlinovo: …Did you name the feral mana beast?

Maud: He’s cute, and deserved a name! :)

Dave: Maud, just don’t let him escape, please. Karlinovo, I’ll update you as soon as we finish.
