How to Bring Common Sense to Xianxia World

Chapter 321: Professional

The guy had been held in interrogation since last night. Wei Chen’s men had separated the three troublemakers and interrogated them individually. The results from last night were... baffling, to say the least.

It turned out that they had conspired with each other to crash Wei Chen’s marriage ceremony!

But then, the Jin Clan and the Lin Clan decided to backstab the Gu Clan by planning to gang up against them during the operation. Their goal was to show Wei Chen and the Underworld Palace that they were worthy allies.

The twisted part was that the Gu Clan had thought of doing the exact same thing!

Their original plan was to call their ancestor down. The ancestor would take some time to descend, and during that time, the Gu Clan would approach Wei Chen and tell him about their ancestor’s plan to seek revenge. They would throw all the dirt they could find at their own ancestor.

Their motive was simple. Their ancestor had drained too many of their cultivation resources, so they had decided to ditch him and start licking the Underworld Palace’s feet instead!

The operation was supposed to happen during the day, but then...

The Gu Clan, who were supposed to start this entire mess, chickened out because of the overwhelming power shown by the Underworld Lord.

They were afraid that if they called their ancestor down, their little facade would be exposed by the Underworld Lord’s powerful divine sense. So, they decided to bail and throw the entire plan into the dirt.

Who would have thought that their ancestor would decide to come down himself without the help of his descendants?

And according to the information they had gathered, when an Immortal Realm denizen descended into the lower realm without being invited, they would suffer even greater restrictions from the Laws of Heaven and Earth.

Even with an artifact capable of concealing their cultivation, they could not display their full power. If they tried, they would face severe backlash.

It was like having a car that could theoretically reach 300 kilometers per hour if you stepped on the accelerator all the way, but you couldn’t actually drive it that fast because the little engine would break down and the entire car would go bonkers.

Meanwhile, a cultivator whose cultivation had been sealed was like having a car with a built-in speed limiter. Even if you stepped on the accelerator, the maximum speed you could reach would only be 200 kilometers per hour instead of 300.

That kind of experience.

The Gu Clan was, of course, alarmed.

They nearly shit their pants the moment their ancestor came down.

So, they decided to stick to the original plan. They would throw dirt at their ancestor, and this time, it was even better since they hadn’t been the ones who initiated the summoning.

They also planned to throw the Jin Clan and the Lin Clan under the bus.

Who would have thought that the Jin Clan and the Lin Clan had thought of doing the exact same thing?

And so, the brawl happened during the night.

It only stopped when Wei Chen’s men finally came to intervene.

Now, the three troublemakers were sitting separately in interrogation rooms, each of them trying to explain why, despite conspiring together, they had somehow ended up trying to betray one another.

The entire thing was so absurd that even Wei Chen found it difficult to believe.

Wei Chen, reading the report as he watched the interrogation, couldn’t help but feel like these people were idiots. Why did they want to stir up trouble this badly? Just because they wanted some benefits, they decided to go this far?

Also, he had gotten some very interesting information from his wife, Dream Butterfly. She said that her good sister, Mirror Butterfly, who was back at the Immortal Dream Garden, had caught on to these idiots’ plan.

That was the beginning of this entire backstabbing fest.

Who would have thought that all of this had stemmed from some shit-talking while they were drunk?

Then... the reason why they decided to backtrack was probably because they had sobered up and gotten a clearer head. They might have realized that they could kick an iron plate if they continued with their shit-talking.

But they didn’t know that the Gu Clan might have sobered up just like them.

So, they decided to backstab the Gu Clan and distance themselves from the whole affair.

Unfortunately, the plan went haywire, and instead of kicking an iron plate, they kicked shit instead.

Now, it was all over their bodies.

"Haaa~" Wei Chen let out a tired sigh and tossed the report onto the table.

Beside him, an Enforcer Captain of the Four Halls stood at attention.

"Boss... what should we do with them?" the captain asked.

"We couldn’t just release them without teaching them a lesson, could we?" Wei Chen asked, just to make sure.

"Of course we couldn’t, Boss. Otherwise, if others found out, they would think they could get off scot-free as long as they didn’t cause any actual damage. We must make it clear to everyone that even if they didn’t cause any damage, stirring up trouble for the Underworld Palace must have consequences," the captain said.

"Okay~ I get it, I get it. It’s all about reputation and dignity, isn’t it?" Wei Chen agreed halfheartedly.

In truth, he didn’t want to oversee this kind of strict punishment or consequence. He wasn’t the type of guy who would just kill other people because someone had stepped on his toes.

But he couldn’t just let them off, could he?

What should he do, then?

Wei Chen thought about it for a moment before an idea struck him.

"Ah! I have an idea. You guys stop the interrogation and call all of them to the meeting room. Call Alfred in as well. I need him to oversee this."

"Okay, Boss." The captain agreed and then walked out of the observation room.

— A few hours later - The meeting room —

Three hours had passed.

The three Patriarchs sat silently around the meeting table, their expressions gradually becoming more and more strained as the minutes dragged on. The meeting room was completely silent, with only the occasional sound of their breathing filling the air.

Four Enforcers stood in the four corners of the room, their cultivation all higher than that of the three Patriarchs. Two more stood guard at the entrance, beside the large wooden double doors.

None of them spoke or even seemed interested in the three Patriarchs, yet their presence alone was enough to make the atmosphere suffocating.

The Enforcers’ faces were cold and unfeeling, like statues. One look at their faces was enough for the three Patriarchs to know better than to try to start a conversation with them.

The three of them could only sit there and wait.

They were Patriarchs of great clans, yet here, they had been made to wait for three hours without so much as an explanation.

It was obvious what Wei Chen was trying to tell them.

Know your damn place!

The three Patriarchs, of course, understood the message perfectly. They were not naive fools who couldn’t recognize a simple power move like this. They knew exactly what was being conveyed, and they knew their place right now.

Otherwise, if they had the means to fight back, they might have already flipped the table.

After letting out an internal sigh and trying to think about happy moments in their lives for the nth time to calm their nerves, they finally heard a sound that signaled the end of this power move.

"Hello~ gentlemen, I’m sorry to keep you waiting. I had a little accident while walking here. I met a granny who needed to cross the road, but she couldn’t, so as a good Samaritan, I couldn’t just leave her there. I had to help her. And after that, I met a black cat trying to cross the road too. I was afraid that it would bring bad luck, so I gave it a wide berth. But then, in the middle of walking here, I somehow got lost in the process, and now, I’ve finally arrived! I’m really sorry for making you all wait like this."

Wei Chen started spouting pure bullshit as he smiled and bowed apologetically. The three Patriarchs really wanted to roll their eyes, but they stopped themselves.

*This is your damn fortress. How was the granny supposed to appear here? And a black cat? Afraid of getting bad luck? Bitch, please. One look at you, and we know you’re not the type of guy who would believe in such a thing.*

The three Patriarchs retorted internally, but on the outside, all of them wore sycophantic smiles.

"Ah~ It can’t be helped, Young Master Wei. We all perfectly understand."

"Young Master Wei has a righteous heart. No wonder Lady Mo and the most beautiful woman on the continent have both fallen in love with you!"

"I agree with both Patriarchs. Young Master Wei is truly a dragon among men."

’Okay... these guys are professionals. I’m straight-up spouting 100% pure bullshit, and these people can praise me without showing even the slightest hint of disgust! You had to respect the professionalism of these guys.’
