Chapter 224 - 223: College (Fourth Update)
After leaving the airport, Gu Xiaoqing asked an airport staff member and got on a bus heading to Jiao Tong University.
After one transfer, she arrived at Jiao Tong University.
Seeing the grand gate of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Gu Xiaoqing finally let out a sigh of relief.
This was the place she would spend the next four years of her life.
The weather in Shanghai was still quite hot, at least for a girl like Gu Xiaoqing, who came from a northern city, as she was sweating profusely.
At the school gate, there was a banner welcoming new students, along with a reception area specifically for them. Many students wearing hats were eagerly receiving the newcomers, guiding them on directions and various places inside the campus.
Gu Xiaoqing dragged her suitcase and carried a backpack, which was already a significantly reduced amount of luggage. If Li Xuemei had packed, it would have been like moving the entire house over.
Holding her admission letter, Gu Xiaoqing went to the reception.
A young boy was introducing things to the students in front of him, and Gu Xiaoqing surprisingly spotted a familiar figure in the crowd.
Ha, it’s really true that enemies are bound to meet.
It was Guo Donghua and He Yan.
They had also obviously just arrived, pulling their suitcases and carrying two large bags, looking a bit awkward with sweat dripping down their faces and heads.
Seeing Gu Xiaoqing, He Yan was actually quite happy, waving excitedly and saying, "Senior, that person over there is also a freshman this year."
She pointed at Gu Xiaoqing.
The boy looked and his eyes lit up, immediately calling Gu Xiaoqing: "Hey, you’re a freshman too, perfect. I’ll have someone take you to the registration area. First, register and pay the fee, then someone will arrange to take you to the dormitory. My name is Yu Wenren, I’m a junior in the economics department, basically your senior. If you need any help in the future, feel free to ask me."
Gu Xiaoqing nodded, appreciating his kindness.
Three boys appeared from the other side, each helping the girls with their luggage and guiding them along the way.
A chubby boy helped Gu Xiaoqing with her suitcase and backpack, introducing himself as he did, "I’m Meng Gang, a junior in the athletics department. Of course, this kind of physical work is best left to boys like me."
Gu Xiaoqing smiled and thanked him.
Guo Donghua and He Yan also had their luggage taken over by someone.
Immediately, they felt much lighter.
Three of them walked together, along with two other girls.
He Yan asked Gu Xiaoqing, "Before I left, I called your house and found out you weren’t taking the train. Who’d have thought we would arrive on the same day?"
Gu Xiaoqing smiled; she had never really clicked with He Yan or Guo Donghua. Three years of high school hadn’t changed that, and it didn’t necessarily mean they’d become friends now.
She hoped her dorm wouldn’t land her with these two.
Otherwise, the next three years wouldn’t be all that pleasant.
Guo Donghua, with his perpetually aloof, expressionless face, just grunted at Gu Xiaoqing. It was unclear why he held such dissatisfaction towards her.
After all the paperwork was completed,
they went to their dormitory. Unfortunately, Guo Donghua ended up in the same dorm room with Gu Xiaoqing, while He Yan was in a dorm on another floor.
It was probably a silver lining in an unfortunate situation.
The look on He Yan’s face was utterly unwilling.
He Yan now knew that Gu Xiaoqing was anything but a pauper, and if she could establish a good rapport with her, the next four years might offer some advantages.
But alas, things didn’t go in her favor.
Gu Xiaoqing and Guo Donghua’s luggage was delivered. Gu Xiaoqing thanked Meng Gang repeatedly, mainly because he was a lovable, humorous, and witty guy who told great jokes. Without his presence on the way, the three girls might not have had much to talk about.
Meng Gang left with a smile.
The other two girls who came with them weren’t in this dorm.
There was already one girl in the dorm, her luggage placed on the lower bunk by the window, but she was not present.
Gu Xiaoqing looked around. Above each bed was a name tag in a plastic holder, indicating whose bed it was.
She found her name; fortunately, it was on the bed on the other side of the window, though it was the upper bunk.
Guo Donghua got the lower bunk near the door.
Only six people were assigned to the entire dorm, which was much better than her high school dormitory.
The best part was that each dorm here had a private bathroom where you could shower, possibly due to the local climate.
Gu Xiaoqing touched around; dust was everywhere.
Time to get to work.
Guo Donghua disdainfully looked at the floor covered in dust, but there was no choice. If they didn’t clean, they couldn’t set up their beds, and it would be better to clean up than to have their bedding get dirty.
Gu Xiaoqing went to find brooms, mops, and rags.
She handed them to Guo Donghua, letting her choose first; she wasn’t someone who bullied others.
Guo Donghua picked the broom.
Thus, Gu Xiaoqing went down to the dorm manager’s office, borrowed a bucket, and filled it with water to start cleaning.
While busy, someone else walked in, another freshman.
The six of them quickly gathered; they were no longer kids and started joining in the cleaning effort. In no time, everything was tidied up.
Gu Xiaoqing climbed up to her bunk and set up her bed.
The bedding was taken out from the suitcase, which could be placed in the cabinet by the door. The cabinets here were larger, much more spacious than those in high school.
Once everything was organized, they started to introduce themselves, as they were all coming from different places and were strangers meeting for the first time.
"My name is Gu Xiaoqing, I’m a freshman in the finance department. Please take care of me in the future,"
Gu Xiaoqing introduced herself.
"I’m Guo Donghua, a freshman in the finance department."
"I’m Qi Yumei, a freshman in the medical school."
"I’m Han Yu, also a freshman in the finance department."
"I’m Liu Qi, a freshman in the medical school."
"I’m Wu Mei, a freshman in the medical school."
Well, it turned out to be half and half.
Everyone had a good laugh.
There were three from the finance department and three from the medical school.
"Classes start tomorrow. Today, how about we six check out the campus? Wu Mei, you’re responsible for guiding us, since I know your parents are professors here at Jiao Tong, you’re as familiar with this place as your own home,"
said Liu Qi, being local along with Wu Mei, and they were acquainted.
So she was rather blunt.
Wu Mei smiled and said, "Sure, but there’s not much to see. Let’s first get familiar with the cafeteria and classrooms, and we’ll gradually learn the rest of the places."
With her good nature, Wu Mei led the five newcomers around the campus all afternoon.
Gu Xiaoqing realized that Jiao Tong University’s campus was indeed vast. (To be continued. If you like this work, please vote for it on Qidian (qidian.com) with recommendation votes and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users, please read on m.qidian.com.)
