Chapter 600 - 33: The Temptation of the Married Woman and the Brief Journey (Part 3)
The war eagles are much younger than the giant eagles, but they are still very intelligent, far smarter than any "normal" bird. These falcon species originated in the forests of the Elf Kingdom, and most of the flocks still reside there, although there are some legends that say some have traveled far away to seek new nesting places, so it is not surprising to see them in the Edge Mountain Range.
While most wood elves live under the protection of the forest, there are still some elves yearning to live in those sparsely forested highlands of the Gray Mountain Range, resulting in a strange kinship between the two races. On the middle slopes of the mountains, elf settlements are shaped near the giant rocky peaks, where war eagles build their nests, decorating the nests with sun-bleached bones of those who dared to invade their territory.
These falcons usually grow much larger than their counterparts in other parts of the old world. They are huge in size, with broad wingspans, allowing them to carry a rider in flight. A common way for wood elves to bond with a war eagle is by finding an egg or nestling abandoned in the treetops and then hatching or raising them.
A fledgling war eagle raised by an elf will form a strong bond with its master, becoming almost of one heart and mind over time, existing solely to enjoy the thrill of hunting and chasing. These war eagle riders scout invaders on their territory and are very adept at guiding their mounts through the woods to attack the intruders. Those who ride war eagles demonstrate extraordinary agility and balance, able to shoot precise arrows as their mounts swiftly fly through the forest. In such cases, a group of intruders straying into Pine Tree Rock and other mountain areas not only faces the wrath of the war eagles but also encounters equally furious elves—a recklessness for which many dwarf expeditions have paid dearly.
Silvana leaned gracefully against the back of her chair and said, "Other forces lack the capability to form such air cavalry, but our Hesse Territory has enough flying mounts. For your trip, you can take a small squad of guards, riding 1 griffin, 2 flying horses, 3 giant eagles, and 6 gray swans. The human cavalry handles security work, and 6 half-elves manage your trade issues on this commercial expedition."
"You don’t need to worry about safety. If anyone could genuinely pose a threat to this level of escort, they would have at least Legendary level strength. In facing such a crisis, you won’t be safer staying in the territory either."
"Moreover, a streamlined escort is a very wise decision. Even if you take a large number of guards, upon arrival at Marle Castle, you wouldn’t be permitted to enter its interior. It’s better to bring just a small squad of elites that can all follow you into the city."
Su Li nodded slowly, indeed different races have different perspectives.
Humans prioritize numerous resilient and heavy-armored cavalry in military operations, while elves consider mobility and flexibility more crucial in their actions.
Silvana’s proposal is undoubtedly very comprehensive. As she said, if such an escort squad had issues, nowhere would be safe. After all, the people protecting him included the Divine Chosen Hilude, along with two flying horse riders and three druids and elves who could use magic to assist.
Unless encountering an extremely powerful single enemy, no one could threaten this group, especially since a larger opposition couldn’t keep up with the mobility of the air cavalry led by Su Li.
Su Li thought carefully for a moment, feeling there was no issue, then turned to Hilude and asked, "What do you think?"
Hilude thought meticulously for a moment and said, "I think this plan is very good; the biggest advantage is its speed. In the world of martial arts, speed is the only unbeatable. With the mobility of our cavalry, almost no enemy can catch up with us. If we travel at full speed, we can make a round trip in about one cycle. Even including the time for trade in Marle Castle, it will take no more than half a month to return."
"But this transaction could greatly increase our wealth and promote the development of our territory. If you dislike leaving the territory, I can go to Marle Castle on your behalf."
Su Li decisively waved his hand and said, "Let’s go together. I can’t stand the worries and overthinking in the territory, having you leave my side for half a month while taking risks."
Of course, more importantly, if it’s just a few days’ journey to Marle Castle, Su Li is still quite interested in visiting this bustling commercial city in the Empire’s south.
The last time Su Li passed by Marle Castle, he only had a few hundred Golden Crowns at his disposal, so he never experienced its prosperity and wealth.
After all, descending on Marle Castle’s affluent upper levels on a griffin, or walking hurriedly through its lower slave markets, presents entirely different views of Marle Castle!
But, most importantly, is Su Li’s constant thoughts about his Wife·Sister Bei.
She is an exceptional goddess, possessing the bloodline of the Moon Priestess, training with her in knightly practice genuinely enhances one’s strength.
