Chapter 642: Justice Paper
Danny nodded. "That is the clue we know."
Lana’s eyes widened slightly.
Neither Calix nor Danny had expected the hint Julia had given them to eventually be used by Lana instead.
’If Julia ever finds out about this, she will probably be furious enough to spit blood.’
Both men clenched their fists simultaneously. Lana, however, became suspicious. ’If they knew the clue, they should have absolutely refused to accept the terms of the contract, and yet... until they are planning to attack us again...’
After all, nowhere in the contract was it mentioned that they couldn’t attack Lana and Sophia.
Yet she smiled brightly. "Great. Then we will complete this quest."
She turned toward Sophia. "All right, Sophia and I are going to sleep."
With that, both Lana and Sophia returned to their tent and quickly fell asleep.
The entire night, Calix and Danny remained outside, quietly discussing how they could deal with Lana and Sophia.
By morning, they had already made their decision. The moment Lana and Sophia woke up, Calix and Danny launched an attack.
Several attacks tore through the air toward them, accompanied by sharp bursts of mystic energy. Lana remained completely calm.
Sophia immediately activated her Holy Shield. The attacks struck the translucent shield and were effortlessly deflected.
Calix and Danny stumbled backward, breathing heavily as sweat trickled down their faces.
Once everything quieted down, Lana stared at Calix and Danny. "Was it worth it? You were overconfident that you could kill us, but in the end you both failed miserably."
"How! You both have low cultivation compared to us." Calix shouted in disbelief.
"Maybe if you had attacked us individually, things would have been different." Lana smiled, but the reality was she would have won.
Not to mention the shiki and Mr. Crow, she had talismans, and even mystic energy far purer than others. So level difference was indeed not a problem to her.
"Alright. Let’s stop this childish talk. Now that you have broken the contract, the contract has become invalid."
Calix and Danny growled in frustration.
They had originally thought that as long as they killed Lana and Sophia inside the Ghost Domain, nobody would ever know about the recording.
Now, however, they realized that they had only managed to make complete fools of themselves. Lana smiled.
"Keep regretting your actions."
With that, she turned around and began folding the tent. Calix immediately panicked.
"Wait! Let us make another contract. We can agree to completely different conditions this time. We will help you, and we promise we will not attack you again. Please, give us another chance."
Lana glanced at him.
"What am I supposed to do? I cannot believe people who have already broken a contract once. What if you break it again?"
Danny immediately shouted, "You cannot put a death clause in the contract!"
Lana slowly turned toward him, her eyebrows rising.
"Bro, that is quite rich. I thought you would at least pretend that you were not afraid of dying. Instead, you immediately guessed what I was planning."
She chuckled. "Fine. I will be kind and give you one chance to redeem yourselves."
With that, she waved her hand. The next second, another sheet of justice parchment appeared in her hands.
Calix and Danny stared at it in complete disbelief.
Just the previous night, Lana had pretended as though she did not have any artifacts with her. Yet now, she had casually produced another piece of justice parchment as if it were nothing.
’There is clearly much more to this woman than we originally thought.’
Finally, the new contract was prepared with additional conditions.
Just as before, Calix and Danny would have to pay Lana and Sophia a sum of money. However, this time, the amount had increased from one hundred million dollars to five hundred million dollars.
It was enough money to make both of them feel as though their hearts were bleeding.
The second condition was that they would protect Lana and Sophia throughout their journey and not fight them. If either of them dared to violate that term, they would face instant death.
This was a condition Lana had deliberately forced them to include.
At that moment, both Danny and Calix secretly felt that perhaps it would have been better to simply let Lana release the recording.
However, neither of them dared to say it aloud. They endured the humiliation and signed the contract.
The third clause remained the same as before.
Lana would not release the audio recording unless Calix or Danny provoked her again.
Once everything was settled, the group began moving toward the eastern direction, which they believed would eventually lead them to the Ghost King.
However, after walking for a long time, they still could not see anything.
The darkness stretched endlessly around them, and the cold air seemed to grow heavier with every passing step.
Lana narrowed her eyes as she looked into the distance.
’Something is wrong. We should have encountered something by now.’
There was nothing around them. There was neither water nor vegetation, nor any sign of life.
The entire landscape consisted of nothing but cold, black marble stretching endlessly into the distance.
As they continued walking, Sophia could not help but murmur, "I feel so thirsty."
Lana frowned slightly. "Just drink some water from your pouch, but remember this. Our rations are very limited."
Hearing those words, Sophia blinked before realizing what Lana was hinting at.
’She is reminding me not to waste our supplies.’
Sophia slowly took a water bottle from her bag and drank a few careful sips, resisting the urge to empty it completely.
Calix and Danny were not doing much better. They were also beginning to feel thirsty, so they took out their own bottles and drank some water.
Lana did not hesitate to drink either. After all, she knew that as time passed, their food and water would eventually become insufficient for everyone.
Fortunately, she had a storage talisman containing a large amount of food and supplies, so she was not particularly worried about running out.
