Lucifer: Godless Reawakening

Chapter 290: I refuse

"Nah, I don’t need your help."

A few seconds of thought was all it took for him to reach that decision.

Slowly pushing himself up, teeth clenched, William declared, "I’ll handle this myself. I already know how to explore the surroundings to my advantage."

Lamb was taken aback. "Hmm? Are you sure? You’ve already drained a lot of your energy. In your current state, even fighting one of them will be far harder than you think."

Yes, Nyx could be used endlessly because of its presence throughout the world. But there was still a limit to how much energy a person could process without destabilizing their mind.

And William was juggling two different energy sources, forcing them into sync while casting multiple high-ranking spells.

They might not be General-ranked, but for him right now, they were no less than that.

William let out a sharp breath. "I can’t rely on you every time things get difficult. If I do, I’ll develop a habit." A habit of believing that whenever things slipped beyond his control, there would always be someone to save him.

He didn’t want that.

Like always, he would face it head-on and carve a way through on his own.

Lamb hummed softly. "Are you sure about this? Emma might need your help right now, and if you let me—"

"Look, I’ve made my decision." William cut him off, his voice firm. "And you’ve been following me long enough to know nothing can make me change it."

Something in his instincts warned him. Accepting Lamb’s help felt dangerous in a way he couldn’t quite explain.

Lamb had always been docile, offering advice, even helping him at times. But this time... William couldn’t trust him. He just couldn’t.

Lamb fell silent.

The world around William began to crumble.

His consciousness started slipping back, and the last thing he saw before everything dissolved into chaos was a pair of warm eyes.

.....

[Emma’s POV:]

I always knew this day would come.

I just never imagined I would be the one to trigger it.

Kevin still hadn’t realized that he was a chosen being, just like me. He didn’t know that his patron was one of the supreme Archangels, the ruler of the Heavens.

Canonically, he was supposed to figure it out on his own, little by little. But things had changed.

Without realizing it, William had taken away many of the moments that would have shaped Kevin into a warrior.

And now, with this anomaly appearing far sooner than it should have, I couldn’t afford to take any risks.

"AHHHHHH!!"

His scream tore through the air, sharp enough to make my ears ring.

His body twisted, withering and reforming at the same time. Golden veins spread across his skin, his eyes burned red, and his aura churned violently, like a storm raging over a dark ocean.

"What did you do?" Zagreus demanded, alarm clear in his voice.

I took a slow breath and stepped away from Kevin.

At that moment, I was directly connected to Lord Raphael. My aether pool felt like a raging river, endless and overflowing.

I summoned another spear of light and began chanting, weaving a multi-layered barrier around Kevin.

He would need time to recover, to regain his consciousness.

Until then—

"I am your opponent."

.....

Explosion was her life.

She loved watching things erupt into flames, and the rain of ashes that followed felt just as beautiful as the first snowfall.

Her body heated with excitement every time she was given a task that required nothing but destruction. Just make things go boom, again and again.

And right now, she was doing exactly that.

BOOOOM

"Ehe~" Her lips curled into a delighted smile as another student fell, struck by a strand of her hair.

Zagreus had ordered her to keep the students within the gym area. Anyone who tried to escape met the same fate.

Explode~

"Aren’t we having fun?"

A heavy voice came from her left.

She flinched, instantly scrambling to her feet. "How did you find me?" she asked, brows raised in surprise.

The old man standing before Mein was none other than the academy’s headmaster, someone Zagreus had specifically warned her about.

Fortunately, she had already plucked a few strands of her hair, ready to fling them at the old man.

The best part of an explosion? It didn’t care about age or gender. The result was always the same. Blood and flesh burned together, releasing a thick, nauseating stench that she found oddly pleasing.

Ah~

"Can you tone it down for me, little lady?" Edward said, letting his staff rest against the ground.

Mein narrowed her eyes. "What?"

It wasn’t a question, but a reaction to the sudden change in him.

His slightly hunched back straightened. His muscles tightened, his eyes sharpened, and his aura... it surged, his very presence intensifying in an instant.

"Your pathetic devil side. It reeks." Edward finished, having torn his sleeves away, revealing his sculpted arms.

Mein could feel that the old one was danger but she didn’t falter. She held her ground.

Snickering, she said, "Your management is so pathetic that it only took a few promises to buy your most trusted man."

Edward’s eyes narrowed. He wouldn’t deny that he felt both shock and regret. He had failed to see the path his closest friend was being led down.

The one person he had trusted without question had betrayed him.

Thankfully, that burden had already been cut down. Otherwise, his focus would have been shaken.

Clenching his fist, he muttered, "This ends here. A child should know when to stop being mischievous."

The moment those words left his mouth, he moved.

In an instant, he was standing right in front of Mein.

"Huh?!"

The sudden shift caught her off guard. Acting on instinct, she was about to hu her strands of hair at him.

But—

THUNK

Edward’s eyes widened.

A barrier had formed around her.

"What the hell?!" Mein cried out in panic as his punch cracked the barrier. For a brief moment, it looked like it would shatter, but it began repairing itself almost immediately.

Edward growled and started striking it again and again.

Each punch sent shockwaves through the ground. The concrete beneath their feet split apart, and the tree behind Mein was torn from multiple sides. Every strike carried enough force to shatter an ice pillar.

Yet it didn’t matter.

The barrier recovered faster than his blows could break it.

All that power, all those strikes, and still... nothing.

Edward was growing frustrated. Whoever was maintaining that barrier had not only trapped the academy in an illusion but was also protecting this girl.

A master of barrier magic at this level was something he had never witnessed before. Under different circumstances, he might have admired it.

But right now, all he felt was frustration.

His students were dying out there, and the one responsible stood right in front of him, sticking her tongue out and mocking him.

"Headmaster."

A voice cut through his thoughts.

Edward turned to see a timid redhead standing nearby.

Mia stepped closer to the now imposing man and asked softly, "May I help you?"

Mein’s eyes widened.

The moment the girl touched the headmaster, he vanished.

And in the very next instant, her vision was filled by a rugged torso.

Her body trembled. Her neck stiffened as she slowly looked up.

The old man stood right before her, glaring down with naked bloodlust in his eyes.

She was fucked.
