Lucifer: Godless Reawakening

Chapter 286 286: Battle of monsters(1)

"What did you learn from your fight against a ranked-devil?" It was during his visit at the Tower when William heard the question from Lamb.

He was currently wandering through the forest, having bought what he was searching for. Leaves shifted under his boots with a dry crunch, and faint motes of dust rose each time he stepped.

He didn't think much before responding, "Hmm...that I can't lose my shit over a few failed spells and watch everything with close precision in order to exploit even the minimal of opportunity."

Lamb remained silent for a moment. His expression didn't tell as much as usual. The creature always wore an emotionless mask on his face that made it almost impossible to judge what exactly he felt when William said something.

A faint breeze passed through, yet the air around Lamb felt oddly still, like it refused to move in his presence.

After a brief pause, the bloodied one finally said, "I am glad to hear that you have learned so many valuable lessons from that battle."

William wryly smiled, "You speak like there is something significant I have yet to realise."

Lamb nodded slightly before he said, "Don't forget your true nature, William. You are meant to charge not to wait for long to see all the cards your opponent possesses. Overwhelm your foe despite how strong they might appear. You have always approached a battle in that manner. Just because something gives you a challenging time shouldn't influence your future action."

William was quite taken aback. It wasn't regular that Lamb gave such straightforward advice.

With a chuckle, William didn't say anything. At that time, he fully didn't comprehend why he said that, but now...

THUNK THUNK THUNK

Each impact travelled through his arms and into his shoulders, the ground beneath his feet splintering in shallow fractures with every forced step back. Pebbles jittered and rolled away from the pressure.

...now, William understood why Lamb asked him to go for the offense from the get go.

His veins popped, face was red as he breathed heavily. The air around him felt thick, every inhale dragging as if something unseen pressed against his chest.

He had been defending the attacks of the creature for the past several minutes and now, he was repenting his decision.

'He is creating something similar to vertigo....I need to fight from a distance.' The closer he got, the more he felt dizzy and disoriented. Even the trees around him seemed to tilt slightly, their outlines warping at the edges of his vision.

This couldn't go for long. He must find a way to suppress this being before the second creature popped up. The soil beneath them had already been churned into uneven ridges and shallow craters from their clash.

William didn't have any idea how in the world a Death Sink appeared right outside the academy and no security was alerted but there was no time to ask questions.

"Hahuu!" The creature huffed before jumping high, the ground caving slightly under its feet before cracking outward in jagged lines.

The sudden displacement sent a ripple through the surrounding dirt, loose stones bouncing once before settling.

William flew further back—THUNK—only to feel his back hitting an invisible wall. The impact sent a dull vibration across the unseen surface, a faint ripple spreading outward like disturbed water.

The monster came roaring his way, its massive fist clenched and cocked; ready to crush William between the brute force and the invisible wall. Its roar wasn't just sound, the air itself trembled with it, leaves shaking violently on nearby branches.

At point blank, William released a loosely chanted Droplet.

BOOOOOM

The explosion bloomed outward, compressing the air before violently expanding it. Dust and debris were thrown in all directions, the shockwave skimming across the ground and kicking up a rolling cloud.

The punch never reached him as the explosion forced the monster to defend itself rather than charging ahead.

William slowly lowered himself and looked over his shoulder...someone had drawn a perimeter around him. A faint shimmer lingered along the boundary now that he focused, barely visible distortions marking its edges.

That's why he could not see the academy.

"Hahuhh!" The creature thumped its fist on its chest, the impact echoing like a drumbeat as the air around it pulsed outward in short bursts.

William sneered, "You look quite eager to exchange blows, huh."

William let go of his control. No point in hiding Nyx when this dude was practically exploding with dark energy.

The moment he loosened his restraint, a dense pressure unfurled from him. Telekinesis wrapped around his body like a swollen barrier, distorting the air faintly as if heatwaves were rising off his skin. Dust lifted off the ground and hovered for a second before scattering.

The creature charged forward, each step sinking slightly into the earth and kicking up chunks of soil. And suddenly, William's vision began to disorient again, the surroundings warping at the edges.

Alright, fucker gonna use the same thing again.

William closed his eyes, expanded his telepathy. The space around him sharpened in a different sense. He heard it coming, the shift of air, the compression of ground beneath weight, and responded.

THUNK THUNK

The collisions rang out like blunt metal striking against something unseen. Shock ripples travelled through the ground, small cracks spreading and overlapping beneath them.

The two began to exchange blows.

William himself wasn't moving but his telekinetic arms moved in response to the creature's blows, invisible force meeting raw muscle. Each impact displaced the air, sending brief gusts spiraling outward.

It was a brawl of two monsters. Every strike caused the ground to tremble, loose debris bouncing with each collision. The nearby trees shuddered, leaves raining down in scattered bursts.

William blocked the incoming punch and grabbed the monster's hand. The moment his telekinetic grip tightened, the ground beneath the creature's feet sank a fraction, unable to bear the sudden opposing force.

He opened his eyes and slashed both hands at once.

SLASH

Cleave, enhanced with Nyx, carved into the creature's red skin. The cut split clean, a dark-edged wound tearing across its body as blood spilled out in thick streams.

But as if time itself was being reversed, the blood halted mid-flow. The torn flesh pulled back together, knitting at an unnatural pace. The surface smoothed over, leaving only a faint trace before even that disappeared completely.

The monster grinned.

William clicked his tongue...this wasn't going to end anytime soon.
