Chapter 337: Lucky to Dodge the Dragon
Moyuan frowned deeply. He channeled his Demonic Power to examine Yu Hongjin closely.
“Any sore spots?” Moyuan asked.
Yu Hongjin blinked. She looked down at her round, bulging belly, then patted it with her hand.
“Huo’d too much! Huo’d way too much…”
“…”
Moyuan exchanged a glance with Hu Junhan. Both wore speechless expressions.
Hu Junhan said, “Given her state, she’ll probably be fine.”
Moyuan waved a hand. “Later, ask Mr. Chen to take a look at her.”
Hu Junhan eyed the giggling, drunken Fish Demon. “Seems you don’t totally dislike her. In fact, you’re kind of concerned?”
“None of your business.” “…”
Hu Junhan shot him a look and shook his head helplessly.
“The second bow to your honorable parents!!”
Another chant echoed from the main hall.
Beaming guests looked on as the couple accepted congratulations. Amidst the cheer stood Yu Hongjin, swaying unsteadily with a liquor pot in hand.
The hall was a blur of happy chaos she couldn’t quite grasp. So instead, she tilted her head back and poured wine down her throat.
“Huo-jiu! Huo-jiu!”
Fortunately, this wedding feast had an endless supply.
“Husband and wife bow to each other!”
Facing each other, the new couple clasped their hands and bowed deeply.
In that instant, nothing penetrated Tong Zhihuan’s focus except the woman before him. Every sound beyond seemed to fade away.
Beneath the veil, he caught the faint shimmer of her red lips. He sensed the wild drumming of her heart—twin to his own thunderous pulse.
As they bowed, their foreheads gently bumped.
They froze briefly, then burst into laughter.
“The rites are complete!!”
Tong Zhihuan reached for Tao’er’s hand.
He moistened his lips, calling out softly, “My Madam…”
Tao’er visibly startled. She pursed her lips, answering just as quietly, “… My darling.”
“Lovely. Simply lovely…”
Above them, the elders watched the newlyweds with joyful smiles. Chen Changsheng, seated nearby, also nodded his congratulations.
The master of ceremonies offered steaming tea next.
“The couple serves tea.”
Tong Zhihuan and Tao’er moved forward, each presenting tea to their parents.
In return, the parents gifted two matched jade pendants carved with an auspicious “Ruyi” pattern, each bearing half a moon design that locked perfectly together.
Tao’er addressed them as “Father” and “Mother.” Tears welled unexpectedly in their eyes as they heard the heartfelt names.
Chen Changsheng accepted his cup gently. “Congratulations.”
His gift was the Love Knot they held.
With the tea sipped, the final ritual was done.
The hall erupted in jubilant cheers.
Moyuan quietly exhaled. “A human and a demon… ending up like this. Honestly, it’s rather enviable.”
Mid-sentence, Moyuan abruptly paused, his gaze snapping toward the door. Hu Junhan sensed it too, turning sharply.
A robed Cultivator entered the courtyard.
Spotting the pair, Lv Shan rushed closer, bowing hastily. “Greetings, Fox Sovereign. Respects, True Dragon.”
Moyuan scoffed lightly. “Why’s he named first? Not acceptable! Try again.”
“Ah?” Lv Shan froze, confused.
Hu Junhan chuckled wryly. “Pay his quirks no mind. You’re almost late—the rites are finished. Go ahead.”
Lv Shan glanced uncertainly at Moyuan.
Moyuan waved him off. “Go on.”
Lv Shan nodded and hurried inside.
“So many people!”
Clearly overwhelmed, he noticed the hosts were swamped with duties. No one would notice a quiet guest.
“Best not distract them. Just deliver this quickly.”
Remembering his Master’s instructions, he waited until the groom was free and guests began seating themselves. Then he approached.
“Physician Tong.”
Tong Zhihuan turned. Recognizing the Cultivator robes, he bowed slightly. “Greetings, Daoist Priest.”
Lv Shan smiled. “A young priest will do. I bear wedding gifts from my Master. Please accept them carefully.”
Tong Zhihuan took the palm-sized lacquered box. What treasure lay inside was impossible to guess.
Tong Zhihuan asked, “From where does your honored Master hail? Might we share ties I’ve forgotten?”
“Mr. Chen holds old connections with my Master,” Lv Shan explained. “Since Physician Tong benefited from his teaching, we too are linked.”
Tong Zhihuan clasped his hands gratefully. “You honor us, Priest. Please, join the feast! The dishes are humble, but flavors are quite pleasing.”
But Lv Shan declined, already stepping away. “Sadly, duty calls. I cannot linger.”
“Priest!”
With a wave, the young Daoist walked on. “Another day, Physician Tong! No need to see me out!”
Tong Zhihuan stared after him in bemusement. He tucked the precious box away safely in his chamber before stepping back out.
Almost immediately, another guest intercepted him.
“Tong Zhihuan, the Physician?”
“The same. May I know why…”
Yun Li bowed formally. “My name is Yun Li. From Qingyuan. I’ve come specially with felicitations.”
He offered a small object. “Knowing not your preferences, I scoured old texts for medical manuscripts. I hope they suffice.”
Tong Zhihuan stared. Medical books? But the gift resembled a jade pendant!
Yun Li clarified quickly. “This pendant stores items inside. The texts… are numerous. Best reviewed later.”
Tong Zhihuan thanked him, startled but gracious. “My gratitude, Brother Yun.”
Yun Li continued smoothly, “I shan’t impose further. If you ever visit Qingyuan, count on my hospitality.”
“Ah?”
Confusion gripped Tong Zhihuan. “But surely you’ll toast our celebration? Please stay.”
Yun Li waved urgently. “Regretfully, other affairs summon me. Farewell!”
“Brother Yun!”
Tong Zhihuan’s call went unheeded. Yun Li had already dashed off, glancing nervously back as if dodging pursuit.
Yun Li burst from the Tong estate, scanning the road repeatedly until certain he was alone. Only then did he sag against a wall to catch his breath.
He glanced one last time behind him. No sign of that Black Dragon. Relief poured through him.
‘Lucky. Lucky I dodged him.’
Yun Li straightened, ready to depart.
But then a voice sliced sharply across the alley.
“Well now. Don’t you look familiar?”
“I… I…”
Yun Li started to bow politely, glancing up. Then he froze—staring at the very face he most dreaded.
Moyuan grinned lazily. “All that sprinting… why stop at the one spot I could corner you?”
“…”
Yun Li smacked his lips. “I… Yun Li only…”
Moyuan’s eyes flared with playful menace.
“I’m robbing you! Merit! Magical Artifacts! Spirit Stones! Elixirs! Hand them ALL over!”
“…”
