Chapter 263: Mountain Lord Tu Hu
Chen Changsheng tentatively accepted her words, but shot her a cold glance and suddenly added, “You’d better think hard.”
The deer demon pressed her lips together and replied, “I didn’t see it means I didn’t see it. Keep questioning all you want, but you can’t force me to give the answer you expect! Are all humans this unreasonable?”
Chen Changsheng secretly relaxed inside. Perhaps he’d overthought things. Qing Tianyou likely hadn’t been implicated because of him.
Having settled his thoughts, Chen Changsheng looked down at the deer demon and spoke. “Don’t even think about harmful intentions. Even if you flee thousands of miles away, I can crush your Sea of Consciousness with a single thought.”
The deer demon lowered her head, voice trembling. “N-never.”
Chen Changsheng gave a slight nod and walked deeper into the Thirty-Six Caves.
After Chen Changsheng disappeared, the deer demon, who had collapsed on the ground, finally relaxed her tense nerves.
Panting heavily, her throat bobbing, she suddenly felt that strand of Sword Qi still swirling inside her Sea of Consciousness, seeming restless and ready to strike.
She clenched her fists, feeling utterly helpless.
As a Great Demon of the Sixth Realm, she’d been unable to resist after just one look. Now, she had no solution for this Sword Qi lingering in her Sea of Consciousness. Just what level was this intruder who’d barged into the Demon Realm?
…
Chen Changsheng ventured deeper into the Thirty-Six Caves. The farther he went, the more he suppressed his aura. Demonic Qi flitted around him, growing denser by the moment.
Along the way, he sensed hundreds of Sixth Realm presences, nearly a hundred at the Seventh Realm, and very few at the Eighth Realm. After walking roughly half an hour, he detected only two Eighth Realm traces.
“A difference from what I expected.”
Chen Changsheng had overestimated the Thirty-Six Caves somewhat.
His gaze suddenly shifted toward a mountain range straight ahead.
At that very moment, a Great Demon residing in those mountains sensed this sudden attention.
Dozens of miles apart, their gazes met.
“Interesting.”
A faint smile curled on Chen Changsheng’s lips as he walked toward the tallest peak.
The Great Demon felt Chen Changsheng’s approach but made no sound. Rising from his cavern, he moved to the mountain’s summit.
Chen Changsheng arrived at the mountain’s base and looked up.
The Great Demon looked down with interest at Chen Changsheng below. Showing no intention of descending to greet him, he simply kept watching.
Chen Changsheng took a step forward.
But as his foot was about to land, his figure abruptly vanished from the mountainside.
The Great Demon paused. An instant later, a figure appeared right before him.
In the blink of an eye, Chen Changsheng had reached the mountaintop.
The Great Demon stared, seemingly startled by how Chen Changsheng had scaled the mountain in a single step.
This Great Demon radiated Eighth Realm power; Demonic Qi leaked uncontrollably from him.
Chen Changsheng looked closely, then cupped his fists politely. “My sudden visit is not meant as disrespect. Please forgive any offense, Mountain Lord.”
“Mountain Lord” often denoted a tiger, and sure enough, this Great Demon had cultivated into spirit form from a mountain tiger.
The Great Demon was surprised this outsider saw his true form so easily. Yet he didn’t back down. Snickering, he declared, “Coming up my mountain without its master’s permission counts as trespassing!”
Chen Changsheng rubbed his chin. “If the Mountain Lord finds my presence disruptive, you are welcome to try forcing me down.”
Tu Hu roared, “Bold! Do you know where you stand?”
“The Thirty-Six Caves,” Chen Changsheng replied lightly. “But what of it?”
Tu Hu observed Chen Changsheng’s indifference and grew suspicious internally.
Did he hold some secret advantage?
“Of all the mountains to climb,” Tu Hu sneered, “you pick mine to show such arrogance!”
He gathered a surge of demonic power, testing Chen Changsheng with crushing pressure.
Boom!
The pressure struck, yet Chen Changsheng remained unmoved. He stepped forward, casually admiring the mountain scenery.
“A fine place. Very peaceful. It’s the tallest peak within the thirty-six mountains, and your presence is the only one here.”
Chen Changsheng murmured softly, “I must not be wrong—you rule the Thirty-Six Caves, do you not?”
Tu Hu retorted, “Not exactly. But they must still answer to me.”
As he spoke, he withdrew the pressure.
A faint smile returned to Chen Changsheng’s lips. He walked to a nearby stone stool and sat.
“Why not join me, Mountain Lord?” Chen Changsheng inquired.
Tu Hu frowned. “This is my Grotto-Abode!”
Chen Changsheng replied calmly, “I’m well aware. There’s no need to test me further. Sit if you wish to speak. I dislike beating around the bush.”
Tu Hu froze briefly, then found his guest intriguing.
He chuckled and sat opposite Chen Changsheng on the stone stool.
Tu Hu began, “You are an outsider from beyond our realm. Am I correct?”
Chen Changsheng raised an eyebrow. “The Mountain Lord seems to know much.”
Tu Hu mentally noted his guess confirmed. “Several clueless ones passed through before. I ended them, turning their souls into Zhang Ghosts within my belly.”
“You outsiders possess great Cultivation. Yet do not forget where you stand. Someone told me this: even the strongest dragon cannot overpower the local snake. Outsiders draw this world’s contempt—so what if your powers excel?”
Chen Changsheng countered, “Perhaps I differ from them.”
“What makes you different?”
Tu Hu eyed him hungrily, licking his lips. “Are you tastier?”
Chen Changsheng shook his head with a small laugh. “Perhaps I’m tougher meat.”
Tu Hu laughed loudly, then opened his mouth and spat.
Three Zhang Ghosts tumbled out. They had once been Cultivators from the Cultivation World.
Lost in this land, they’d fallen victim to the tiger demon. Now Specters of the Devoured, they existed trapped between life and death.
“Tu Hu!!!”
The three spirits glared with venom at the tiger demon.
Tu Hu gave a slight snort. Instantly, all three Zhang Ghosts knelt.
Once turned Zhang Ghosts, they lost all freedom. Their existence depended utterly on the tiger’s whims.
One gaunt-faced ghost howled, “Just kill me if you dare!!”
Tu Hu scoffed, relishing their torment. “I enjoy this—playing you like toys. Why let you die when life amuses me? But I bring good news.”
“Company joins your fate soon! Hahaha…”
Tu Hu laughed, his gaze shifting back to Chen Changsheng.
The three transformed ghosts also turned their spectral eyes onto Chen Changsheng.
One immediately screamed, “Run! Get out! This demon tiger is blessed by Heaven and Earth! You stand no chance! Flee!”
Chen Changsheng paused. Blessed by Heaven and Earth?
