Chapter 1351 - 1349: The Bizarre Case in Fang Family Village
This hotel is where Protector Li is staying. Chen Tianlong had just finished drinking his tea when someone bumped into him. Turning around, he saw a young man around twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old, holding a package, but he seemed somewhat out of it.
This person was Fang Xiaotong. After taking his medicine earlier, he had a reaction as soon as he stepped outside and got some fresh air. Feeling a bit dizzy, he staggered and bumped into Chen Tianlong.
"Sorry about that."
After apologizing, Fang Xiaotong turned and left.
However, with Chen Tianlong’s keen observation skills, he immediately sensed something was off. He noticed that the person’s eyes were vacant, and his lips were slightly red as if he had been poisoned. Just then, a waiter arrived with their dishes.
"Your dishes are ready, please enjoy."
"Thank you," Wu Mengting said with a smile.
The two began to eat. It wasn’t long before they noticed a middle-aged man in a long robe, about thirty-five years old, sitting at the next table with two of his subordinates.
Chen Tianlong felt these people looked familiar, dressed in black clothes, their garb slightly resembled...
Suddenly, Chen Tianlong thought of the Wolfman Race and wondered why they would be here. Were they looking for him? No, that couldn’t be right. If they were looking for him, they’d recognize him. They wouldn’t be so foolish as to not know who they were supposed to find. This didn’t seem possible.
At this moment, Protector Li also glanced at Chen Tianlong. After exchanging a look, they both averted their eyes, clearly not recognizing each other. Shortly after, Wu Mengting and Chen Tianlong finished eating, booked two rooms, and went to rest.
Nothing happened overnight. Early the next morning, voices clamored from the street, as if something major had occurred.
After breakfast, Chen Tianlong and Wu Mengting went out to see the police leading a group of people, claiming they were going to perform an autopsy. Chen Tianlong casually asked a middle-aged man.
"Excuse me, what happened exactly?"
The man candidly replied, "There’s a place called Fang Family Village not far from town. I heard that a whole family was found dead last night, leaving only the eldest son alive. I think his name is Fang Xiaotong."
Hearing this, Chen Tianlong was a bit puzzled and asked, "Do you know how they died?"
"Uh, I’m not sure. I think they were bitten to death." The man had just heard the rumors.
"Bitten to death?" Chen Tianlong was shocked.
Next to him, Wu Mengting also found it strange. She’d never heard of so many people being killed in such a way, so she decided to go with Chen Tianlong to Fang Family Village to find out more.
With directions from passersby, Chen Tianlong soon found the path to Fang Family Village. The route was indeed a bit rugged, but it was quite close to town; after about ten minutes, they arrived in the village.
Chen Tianlong and Wu Mengting reached the deceased’s house, which was already cordoned off by the police.
So they could only watch from a distance when suddenly a familiar face appeared before Chen Tianlong. The middle-aged man kneeling not far away was someone Chen Tianlong had seen last night.
He recalled seeing him last night looking off, pale with blood-red eyes, like someone poisoned to death. Now the whole family was dead, and Chen Tianlong thought there was something fishy going on.
The detective team had arrived by then, and Chen Tianlong and Wu Mengting followed them. The captain asked, "Fang Xiaotong, tell us exactly what happened."
Fang Xiaotong thought for a moment and then, crying, said, "Captain Jiang, you have to advocate for me. My family died so horribly."
Captain Jiang motioned, and a forensic doctor went over, turned the bodies, and began the autopsy.
At this point, Chen Tianlong focused intently, using the Nine Yang Celestial Dragon Technique’s farsight ability to see clearly from five to six meters away as if it were right in front of his eyes.
The forensic doctor discovered that the wounds on the deceased were consistent, with bite marks on their necks, each fatal with one bite.
"Reporting to you, Captain, the deceased was bitten to death with a single bite," the forensic doctor reported.
"What? Bitten to death?" Captain Jiang, dealing with cases for years, had never heard of such a thing; the idea of teeth sharp and powerful enough to kill someone in one bite was bone-chilling.
"Were there other wounds besides the neck? Hidden ones, or perhaps internal organs?" Captain Jiang asked about all possible suspects to prevent overlooking anything.
"Uh, from what I just checked, there were no excess blood clots in the mouth of the deceased, proving it wasn’t an internal injury. Based on the blood color, they were bitten to death directly," the forensic doctor explained.
"Hiss..."
Captain Jiang inhaled deeply and then continued, "That’s strange, could it have been some wild beast that bit them to death?"
Captain Jiang turned and asked, "Fang Xiaotong, did you hear any wild animal noises last night, or see any shadows?"
Fang Xiaotong shook his head repeatedly, indicating he neither saw nor heard anything. This increased Captain Jiang’s confusion.
If not a wild beast, and the fact that Fang Xiaotong alone was unscathed, made Captain Jiang perplexed even after thinking for a long time.
Chen Tianlong listened to their conversation and felt things were not that simple. Even a wild beast couldn’t kill so many people silently; if it were a beast, there would be sounds of struggle, and the deceased should bear many wounds, impossible for them to stand still and be bitten one by one.
The only possibility left was that a human did it, and the person was close to them, which they didn’t guard against.
Just then, a coroner shouted.
"Captain, there’s a new discovery."
Captain Jiang rushed over, bent down, and saw something, some unknown creatures like mites, at the wound site. The forensic doctor had seen them but assumed they were bacteria-infected parasites. Looking closely now, it seemed otherwise.
"Captain, these little bugs seem to be evolving. Just now, there were only a few, and now there are dozens. Oh my, so many!" the coroner suddenly shouted in fear.
The surrounding onlookers couldn’t see clearly and didn’t know what was happening. Hearing the tension there, they began to stir anxiously.
Seeing the rapid growth of the unknown creatures, Chen Tianlong furrowed his brow, sensing this wasn’t simple. It must be some unique virus.
Virus?
Thinking of this, Chen Tianlong suddenly recalled seeing Fang Xiaotong last night. Could he have been infected with the virus yesterday?
What about his family....
Chen Tianlong seemed to understand something, his eyes fixed on Fang Xiaotong, noticing his occasional creepy smile, which made Chen Tianlong uneasy.
The problem must be with Fang Xiaotong, Chen Tianlong thought to himself.
So Chen Tianlong watched his every move. Suddenly, another shout came from the coroner because the unknown creatures increased rapidly, causing a sudden movement in the corpse.
The forensic pathologist jumped in fright and hurriedly stomped down, calming the body as the small creatures, possibly in fear, hid back inside.
Although it was confirmed the body was peculiar, what those tiny bacteria were, even Captain Jiang didn’t understand.
Nigh had fallen, a breeze blowing gently, the cooling pre-autumn chill prompting villagers to retreat to their houses. The yet-to-be-examined corpse was returned to the Fang house. Fang Xiaotong, too, returned home.
Having observed for a long time, Chen Tianlong felt it wasn’t so simple and thus found a place with Wu Mengting to sit and rest.
Soon it was midnight. With the matter unresolved, Chen Tianlong continuously monitored the quiet house. Inside, the lights slowly went out, but still, nothing stirred.
Chen Tianlong looked at Wu Mengting beside him, who seemed a little tired, so he thoughtfully said, "Wu Mengting, come over here and get some sleep."
Wu Mengting gave a sweet smile, nodded in understanding, walked over, and gently sat beside Chen Tianlong, leaning against him. Chen Tianlong was initially surprised but then understood.
So he intentionally extended his shoulder for her to rest on. As the night breeze blew a slight chill, Wu Mengting felt a bit cold. Chen Tianlong reached an arm around her while holding his sword against the ground with the other.
Thus, Wu Mengting sweetly dozed off.
Unaware of how much time had passed, a sudden "Ah!" was heard, and the police outside immediately sprang into action.
Two people entered, and a moment later, silence resumed. Finding it odd, Captain Jiang quickly lit a torch and led the remaining few inside.
