Chapter 668 - 319: Because He Has Dragons
...
...
Broken Rock Empire.
In the corridors of the royal palace.
The figure of Marquis Cold Blade passed through stone pillars, heading straight for the queen’s study.
His face was grim, his steps heavy, and it seemed each step carried anger, echoing from the marble floor.
"Please stop, Her Majesty the Queen is meeting with Lord Leon!"
At the door, two guards dressed in silver armor quickly crossed their long spears, blocking the Marquis Cold Blade’s path.
"Get out of the way!"
Marquis Cold Blade had no intention of stopping.
He raised his arm without hesitation, casually swatting away the crossed long spears.
The two guards hadn’t reacted before Marquis Cold Blade had already pushed open the heavy door, barging into the study.
The study was filled with a faint scent of ink, and the afternoon sunlight streamed through the windows, spilling onto the document-laden long table.
Atrey, the current queen of the Broken Rock, was reviewing documents in front of the wooden table, across from her sat the Empire’s Commander Leon.
Atrey couldn’t help but lift her head upon hearing the commotion.
When she saw that the intruder was Marquis Cold Blade, her brow instantly furrowed, but then quickly relaxed.
Atrey set down the quill in her hand and waved off the guards rushing in from the door, signaling them to leave.
The guards bowed, exited the study, and closed the door behind them.
"Eofri, what happened?"
Atrey’s voice was gentle and steady.
She straightened up, leaning against the back of her chair, with a warm smile on her face.
"Your Majesty, I need your help!"
Marquis Cold Blade bowed in salute.
His face was so pale it was devoid of blood, his eyes sunken, the whole person looking haggard.
"My territory has been invaded by Baron Rod of the Tulip Clan! The border town has fallen!"
Marquis Cold Blade’s voice carried an uncontrollable anger,
"Other vast lands have also fallen into Baron Rod’s hands!"
"Even my son has fallen into his hands!"
"Rod... Baron?"
Atrey’s expression turned puzzled.
She tilted her head slightly, as if trying hard to search her memory for any information about this name.
But evidently, she found none.
The queen turned her head to look at Leon, who sat in the chair beside her.
"Commander Leon, do you know this Baron Rod?"
A hint of confusion flashed in Leon’s eyes.
He furrowed his brow, trying hard to recall.
The name sounded somewhat familiar, as if he had heard it somewhere before.
But after a careful thought, he gained nothing.
Finally, Leon shook his head,
"I’ve never heard of this name, Your Majesty."
"Rod is the illegitimate son of the Earl of the Tulip!"
Marquis Cold Blade hurriedly explained, speaking very quickly,
"He responded to the bloody edict issued by His Majesty Agna back then and went to the Northern Wasteland to become a pioneering lord."
"In the past two years, he has developed rapidly, using the resources of the wasteland to acquire a large number of slave laborers."
"He trained soldiers, established an army, and now possesses an extremely powerful military force!"
The words of Marquis Cold Blade brought a momentary silence to the study.
The confusion on Atrey and Leon’s faces not only did not diminish but became more intense.
The two exchanged a glance, with disbelief in their eyes.
Atrey raised an eyebrow and looked back at Marquis Cold Blade, her voice carrying obvious skepticism,
"Are you saying that this Baron Rod, in just two years..."
The queen paused, "in such a cold and food-scarce place as the wasteland, built an army?"
"And then this army invaded your territory?"
"Captured your city?"
As Atrey spoke, a slight smile appeared on her lips, her eyes showing clear doubt.
"Eofri, are you sure there’s no error in the information you’ve received?"
Leon also turned to look at Marquis Cold Blade.
He nodded, expressing agreement with Atrey’s skepticism.
The wasteland is even more sparsely populated than the Northern Territory; it is ignorant, vast in land but teeming with wild beasts.
And the climate there is extremely harsh, allowing crops to be planted only in spring, with only one harvest of wheat.
What would that Baron Rod use to support the army?
And it wouldn’t be a peasant army wielding hoes and dung forks, right?
Such an army would need a large amount of money, food, iron mines, and more, not to mention blacksmiths, craftsmen, and training officers.
As Leon thought about this, he couldn’t help but shake his head with a smile.
"There can be no mistake, Your Majesty!"
Marquis Cold Blade’s voice became more urgent.
He took a step forward, his whole body trembling slightly.
"I’ve received six urgent military reports in succession!"
Marquis Cold Blade took a deep breath, continued to explain,
"Earlier, Baron Rod’s territory was already somewhat strange."
"But because of the Empire’s war, I put most of my energy into the coalition forces and didn’t pay much attention to the wasteland’s affairs."
"Now I feel he must have discovered something in the wasteland and gained supernatural strength!"
"Oh? Why do you say that?" Atrey’s expression turned a bit serious.
"Baron Rod can master dragons!"
As Marquis Cold Blade’s words fell, the air seemed to freeze at that moment.
"Dragons?!"
Atrey stood up abruptly, her eyes fixed on Marquis Cold Blade,
"Are those the dragons from wizard novels?!"
"I don’t know what the dragons in novels are like, Your Majesty."
Marquis Cold Blade quickly stepped forward: "But those two dragons, one can breathe fire and the other can exhale ice and snow!"
"What?"
Atrey’s face was full of shock, her eyes widened as she exclaimed,
