Chapter 307: The Cure
Elara was baffled to hear his ridiculous, reckless plan. Yet it was better than anything they could come up with, so she had to agree to it. Kaelis was the same, as he could only trust in them.
On the other hand, Aegon truly believed that Hecte could do this. She was at Rank 8, a realm far surpassing mortals. Every Rank after the sixth one was a realm of its own. She was among the most powerful people in the whole world; only the Emperor and the Demon King surpassed her greatly.
That also meant her Soul encompassed a vastness in the Main Consciousness unlike anyone else’s. And that vastness determined one’s control over the Conceptual Plane, where all Laws and Concepts resided, independent of the reality that the plane transcended.
One thing that Aegon knew clearly, even if it came at the cost of terrible pain, was that the Conceptual Plane contained the most fundamental concepts, meaning they were the reason the Physical Plane had them. So, the concepts in the Physical Plane were different from the concepts in the Conceptual Plane.
There was a fundamental difference between them.
Hecte rose from his shadow like an upside-down waterfall of darkness, standing taller than everyone present. She nodded at him and then extended her hand towards the captured people.
Aegon crossed his hands over his chest, facing everything with clear nervousness on his face. While he was confident in Hecte, a life was at stake here and he was just experimenting.
Elara hooked her hand around his elbow and whispered, "Trust in her."
Aegon hummed, feeling a lot calmer.
Seconds passed as Hecte remained still. Then, right before their eyes, the unconscious people began to convulse, and Aegon almost summoned his safety measures to ensure they lived.
But to their surprise, they saw a lightless mass slipping out of their orifices. It condensed into a tight black ball before them that floated towards Hecte. She held it easily and presented it to Aegon.
[I was successful, Boss.]
Aegon’s lips tugged upwards. "I knew it! You’re one hell of an overpowered shadow."
[Without your guidance, I wouldn’t have known that I could do this. It’s all thanks to you, Boss.]
He could hear the happiness in her voice, even if he couldn’t see her face. Clearly, she was glad to be of help and also learn something new about her powers.
People of her level often felt stagnation because of how vast their power became. It was quite an irony. Not to mention their progression also slowed down to a crawl, so moments like these, where they discovered something new, were always exciting for them.
He smiled at her, then glanced at Elara, who was already checking the vitals of their guinea pig. Sensing his gaze, she raised her head and nodded with a soft smile.
’Things are better there too.’
He asked her, "El, is there anything else we should be careful of? I can’t think of anything."
Technically, he could think of multiple things, but all of them would be detected by his elite group of shadow bodyguards. Only a few things in this world could actually make the Red Veil helpless.
She thought for a moment before shaking her head. "Sneaking out even this much is impossible, so I can’t imagine them acquiring more. Not to mention the World Tree would be alerted."
"So, there’s nothing else," Aegon concluded. "Valid. Who can escape these preparations? So they’re probably confident. Good for us."
He turned towards Kaelis and Orion, who had stood up and were watching things unfold with shock in their eyes. He grinned at them. "You can stop worrying now, Administrator. Now, just watch as we exorcise Chainbound Sky."
"The future of the Vayrins is in your hands." Kaelis bowed his head. "We have nothing worthy of you, but you shall have our gratitude for as long as the Vayrins live."
"You actually have," Aegon said, rubbing his chin. "Why don’t you give me ten or twenty percent of Chainbound Sky?"
That stopped everyone, as even Elara raised a brow at him. Clearly, he had lands far larger than the whole of Chainbound Sky, so she was confused by his words. Kaelis and Orion were also surprised and didn’t know how to react.
"My dear aunt will probably be angry if I go around helping people without taking anything," Aegon shrugged lightly. "Also, if a Valerian has shares in a place, do you think anyone would dare attack it?"
His words made Elara shake her head with a smile as she thought, ’So much nonsense just to find an excuse to protect these people. How adorable, dear.’
Kaelis and Orion instantly understood his intentions and looked at each other, then at the other three members of the Aerial Council. They nodded at him.
He took a deep breath and said, "I can’t make that promise, as I’m not the ruler or king of these people. But I will promise that we will try our best to give you your share."
"You know, if you had agreed immediately, you would have fallen in my eyes," Aegon said, putting his hands behind his head. "Now I’m impressed. This land does need a leader who thinks about its people instead of himself. I’ll be happy knowing my lands are being governed by people like you."
Aegon walked towards Kaelis and patted his shoulder. "You’re doing a great job, Admin."
Those words froze Kaelis as his mouth remained wide open and a single tear escaped his eye. He hurriedly composed himself and bowed. "Thank you."
Aegon chuckled and turned around, his laugh turning cold. "Now then, it’s time for some cleansing."
With that, he ordered the rest of the Red Veil to spread across Chainbound Sky, ready to act if things went south. Only Hecte was left behind, and she cured the rest of the captured people, but they didn’t wake up.
According to Elara, their Physiques would take some time to recover without the parasite, which had been affecting even their nervous systems.
Once that was done, Orion brought the sleeping people to a safe place while everyone else followed Aegon outside. The moment he stepped onto the grass outside, he felt light raindrops washing over him.
"Let’s do this."
