Chapter 347: Alina’s Scoutings
The night had already fallen by the time Lyan found himself standing in front of the darkened halls of Grafen Castle, staring out at the horizon. The quiet hum of insects filled the air, blending into the faint rustling of the leaves. He had just finished another round of strategic meetings with his allies when he noticed that Alina had gone missing.
A part of him already suspected where she might have gone, and his suspicions were quickly confirmed when one of the sentries approached him.
Rather than sentries, inside the armors are Grimclaw’s undead hobgoblin skeletons. But it seems that they are now smart enough to speak perhaps due to the great amount of battle experience.
"My lord, Lady Alina mentioned heading out to scout the enemy forces along the northern border."
Lyan frowned, rubbing his temple. Of course, she did.
"Now this is kind of troubling..."
He knew Alina’s reasons for doing it. With her affinity for dark mana and her monster child, the Galewing Butterfly, she was capable of blending into the shadows, slipping through enemy lines unnoticed. She had argued that her skills made her the perfect candidate for reconnaissance. And she wasn’t wrong; Alina was strong, capable, and determined. But she also had one very concerning flaw—her clumsiness.
"That girl..." Lyan sighed softly, shaking his head. His instincts told him to trust her, that she had been through enough battles to handle herself. But he couldn’t shake the gnawing worry at the back of his mind. She might have skill and power, but her lack of focus when it mattered most was something that he couldn’t ignore.
He closed his eyes, inhaling deeply, and made up his mind. "I suppose I should go after her. Just to make sure she doesn’t trip over her own feet again."
Slipping through the halls, Lyan moved with purpose but kept his presence subtle. He didn’t want to cause unnecessary alarm, nor did he want to alert Alina that he was following her. She was fiercely independent and would likely protest if she knew he didn’t trust her to handle this mission alone.
And the reason why she didn’t brought Xena and Belle must be because the both of them are busy with themselves, and she’s just following her impulsive thoughts. Since from the three of them, the one with a much more ’Mercenary-like mind’ is Alina, after all.
