In the original story, Akainu and Aokiji battled for three days and three nights on Punk Hazard in the New World for the position of Marine Fleet Admiral.
The battle between the two directly transformed an entire island into a landscape of half ice and half fire.

Zoro, using this technique, even managed to cut through Kaido’s heat breath.
Akainu, of course, didn’t know that technique, but he achieved a similar feat through sheer brute force.
The magma greatsword swung, directly slicing through the flame pillar, but the blade of the magma greatsword vanished as it fell.
