"That scene just now was really so awkward. But now I’ve run into another big problem—how am I supposed to take a bath? If I don’t wash up, I’ll be completely covered in sweat and smell!" Hiroshi stood inside the bathroom, looking around, and thought to himself.
Just then, as he looked around carefully, he noticed that behind the glass wall of the bathroom, there was a piece of gauze curtain that seemed to be made for drawing closed.
"Why is there a gauze curtain here? Is it meant to block the view? If I pull it shut, it should make my silhouette less visible too. I’d better just go ahead and draw it closed first!" Hiroshi said to himself as he slowly pulled the gauze curtain shut, trying his best not to make any noise.
Once he had everything ready, he slowly took off his clothes and began to take his bath.
They had been traveling for such a long time, and they had never had a proper place to clean up along the way. Only when they passed through a village and found somewhere to stay could they finally take a bath.
In the past, when they stayed in other villages, they had always booked two separate rooms, so they never had to worry about things like this or end up in such awkward situations.
But today, since they had spent so long searching for accommodation, this was the very last room available. They didn’t want to go looking elsewhere anymore—if they went somewhere else and found no rooms left, they might even lose this last one if they came back later.
"Alright, the water temperature is just right. I’ll start washing up now, and once I’m done, we can go to sleep!" Hiroshi said with a smile as he looked at the comfortably warm water.
And so, while Hiroshi was taking his bath in the bathroom, Harumiko was outside finding several blankets and spreading them out on the floor—she was busy preparing a place for Hiroshi to sleep.
"He’s so silly! I’m feeling a little disappointed too. Does he really not want to sleep on the same bed as me? Honestly!" Harumiko thought to herself as she arranged the blankets, her eyebrows furrowing slightly.
While they were each busy with their own things in the same room, Hiroshi spent quite a long time bathing, finally washing away all the sweat and tiredness from his body. Once Harumiko had finished making the bed on the floor, she slowly sat down on the large bed.
"Finally done bathing. Now I can go out and lie down to get some proper sleep. But I’d better put on some clothes too—it would feel really awkward walking out like this. After all, this is the first time we’ve ever stayed alone in the same room, so I shouldn’t be too careless or informal!" Hiroshi thought to himself as he prepared to get dressed.
But at that moment, he suddenly remembered that Harumiko had walked out earlier wearing nothing but a bathrobe. Then another thought crossed his mind: "If a girl like her isn’t worried about it, what do I, a grown man, have to be afraid of? I’ll just put on a pair of shorts and a bathrobe and go out like that!"
"Hiroshi, are you done washing up? I can even smell the nice scent on you from all the way over here. It’s so much better than earlier—you were really sweaty all day long, so taking a bath was definitely the smart thing to do! I feel so refreshed and relaxed now. If I get a good night’s sleep after this, I’m sure I’ll be full of energy tomorrow!" Harumiko said with a smile the moment she saw Hiroshi walk out.
Hiroshi nodded with a smile in response. At this moment, he also felt much more relaxed. Then he slowly walked over to the spot Harumiko had carefully prepared for him on the floor.
"Thank you, Harumiko, for getting my sleeping place all ready while I was bathing!" Hiroshi said to Harumiko with a smile.
Harumiko smiled gently and replied, "You’re welcome! It’s the least I can do. Besides, I had nothing else to do right after I finished my bath. Come on, let’s go to sleep now. It’s getting late, and I’m starting to feel a little sleepy too!"
Hiroshi nodded softly, then drew the curtains and turned off the lights. After that, the two of them each lay down in their own places for the night.
From the moment they lay down, neither of them said another word—but neither of them could fall asleep either, since this was the very first time they had ever stayed alone together in the same room.
More than an hour passed, and then Harumiko opened her eyes, turned around, and looked down at Hiroshi lying on the floor.
"Hiroshi, are you asleep?" Harumiko couldn’t help but whisper softly to him.
"No, I’m not. Why aren’t you asleep yet? It’s been such a long time already!" Hiroshi replied.
Harumiko thought for a few seconds, then said softly, "I don’t know why, but I just can’t seem to fall asleep after we turned off the lights. Hey, why don’t you come up and sleep on the bed? It’s such a big bed, and it feels such a waste for me to be sleeping all alone on it!"
Hiroshi was completely taken aback by what Harumiko had said. After a pause of several seconds, he whispered back, "B-but wouldn’t that be a little inappropriate? I’d better just sleep on the floor!"
"If I, a girl, aren’t worried about it, what do you have to be afraid of? Hurry up and come up here!" Harumiko urged him softly right away.
