Chapter 683: Operation ’Hydra’. Part-1.
Awakener’s Association Headquarters.
"It’s raining quite heavily today... Haven’t seen such heavy rain for a long time..."
Link, who was standing beside the floor-to-ceiling window, looked and stared at the city outside with a calm look on his face.
"Although... I don’t know why... but I don’t feel good right now... my intuition is telling me that something’s about to happen..."
Hearing Link’s words, Riya, who was lying on Raji’s lap, took a deep sigh and spoke in a depressed voice.
"Sigh... I don’t like these rainy days at all... it’s so dark and depressing... I like sunny and warm days more!"
"You can easily smell the sweets from afar on warm days..."
Hearing Riya’s words, Raji rolled her eyes and spoke,
"The world is not just about sweets and candies; there are many other things aside from that you know..."
"You are now a full-fledged adult, but you are still behaving like kids... sigh, when will I become an aunt at this rate... sigh..."
Hearing Raji’s words, Riya’s face reddened from shyness, and Link almost smashed his head into the glass window out of sheer shock!
"What are you talking about!? We are still too young for that!!"
"Moreover, we are only engaged! We aren’t even married yet you know!!"
Link pointed his finger at Raji and immediately retorted in a loud voice,
"Instead of you asking us about these things, we should be the ones asking you about it!!"
"You are the one who should be marrying and having kids you know!"
Hearing Link’s words, Raji didn’t feel angry at all; she just took a sip of wine and spoke.
"Love, marriage and happiness... these kinds of things suit those who have a partner they like and can trust..."
"You two are perfect for each other... there is no knowing what will happen in the future; being an awakener makes life unstable..."
"There’s never a hundred percent guarantee you will be able to see the sun next day... I would say that you should do things you want to do in the future now instead of leaving them to future..."
Raji sighed as she squeezed Riya’s chubby and cute reddish cheeks while saying,
"As for me... I am past that stage of passionate love... I don’t think I will ever be able to fall for anyone again... I prefer living alone and keeping my peace to myself..."
At Raji’s words, Ashtel crossed his arms, leaned back on his sofa, and spoke in a calm voice.
"Don’t let what that horrible man did ruin your life Raji..."
"SS-rankers have a life span of thousands of years; in terms of age, you are just a toddler at most! You still have plenty of time at your disposal..."
"You are free to appreciate the feeling of caring about someone special too despite being a guardian of this nation..."
Ashtel looked into Raji’s eyes and continued,
"I once used to be an idiot who never cared about interpersonal relationships at all... I only used to care about battles all day long..."
"By the time I realized that I had neglected everything else... it was too late..."
"As an SS-ranker supported by the entire nations and enjoying tremendous wealth and resources, it’s our duty to protect this nation... but that doesn’t mean we would have to let go of all our humanity..."
Ashtel glanced at his son and spoke with a smile.
"You are still part of the youth just like Link and Riya... Let me shoulder the burden until the next generation grows up..."
"You just need to find your own special someone..."
Before Ashtel was a demigod and before he was the strongest man in the world, he was a father and a husband to someone he cherished.
Protecting the nation is a duty he took out of his own free will, but if a day comes when he has to make a choice between his family and the nation, he would choose his family without hesitation.
After all, despite being one of the strongest demi-gods on this planet, Ashtel Rex was still human and still had emotions.
"You know... when I was young... I used to think that the almighty Ashtel Rex must be stern and domineering person... but after knowing you for so long..."
"I can conclude that you completely different from what the outside world and the rumors say about you..."
Ashtel smiled at Raji’s words and replied,
"That’s because I show my ’work’ personality to the outside world... to those who are close to me... I am more tolerant..."
"Talking about rumors and personality, that kid Rio is the most contradicting fellow I have ever seen in my life..."
"Rumors and almost everyone outside thinks he is a cool, edgy and almost heartless person who can go to any length to hunt down criminals and takes pleasure in torturing them..."
Ashtel smirked as he continued speaking.
"But look at him when he’s around Lia and you lot... and all of those fake rumours will crumble apart in a matter of a second! Haha..."
*ding* *ding*
"Oh! Talk of the devil, it’s his call..."
Seeing that Rio finally contacted them, Link and everyone else looked at Ashtel with a look of interest.
"Hoh, this guy finally decided to call... he really took his sweet time-"
Before Link could finish his sentence, he noticed that the smile on Ashtel’s face disappeared visibly, and he stopped speaking instantly as the ominous premonition from before returned.
From smiling to serious and then tense, Ashtel’s expression changed so much that everyone in the room could feel the environment become tense.
By the time the call ended, the pressure in the room almost became unbearable and Riya couldn’t help but ask,
"W-what happened?"
Ashtel went silent for a second at that question but then took a deep breath and spoke.
"The situation has changed... we need to prepare ’two’ of ’them’ now..."
Hearing Ashtel’s words, Link’s face went pale, the glass from Raji’s hand fell on the ground and shattered, and Riya collapsed back on the sofa as her knees gave way.
"Ellie is... th-this..."
