Reborn as the Villain's Wife, I Shine in 80s

Chapter 283 - 269 Train Robbery

Smoke exhaled from his icy lips, forming ripples that spread layer by layer...

The two women seated opposite him were choking on the smoke but dared not say anything. Instead, they closed their eyes as if intoxicated.

Tian Sangsang turned her head curiously. Her beautiful almond-shaped eyes were searching for something. Soon, she spotted the two men.

They were smoking—no wonder there was a smell of cigarettes.

The man in the trench coat had a calm gaze, fixedly staring at... her?

Tian Sangsang glanced left and right, then blinked at him in confusion.

The man shifted his gaze indifferently, lowering his head to smoke quietly. The swirling smoke obscured his expression, and even his good-looking eyes were hidden under the brim of his hat.

Tian Sangsang shook her head. Maybe she was overthinking it—she thought he recognized her.

The smell of smoke grew stronger. Honestly, the way they smoked looked quite stylish; they must be people with stories.

Tian Sangsang prided herself on having sharp eyes. When dealing with people who had stories, it was better not to meddle—otherwise, it was easy to end up as cannon fodder.

The train suddenly stopped as it passed through a small city.

"Are we there?" Tian Sangsang asked in confusion.

Zhao Chun looked out the window, his gaze turning uncharacteristically grim. "Damn it!"

He shouted, "There are robbers!"

"What? Robbers?" The other crew members panicked and turned to look.

Tian Sangsang felt a chill run down her spine. She glanced outside the window. The view was pitch black, like an incoming zombie horde.

She couldn’t help but think of a movie she’d watched before, called *The Sino-Russian Train Heist*. After entering foreign territory, the robbers struck under the cover of darkness. They committed every atrocity imaginable—robbery, murder, rape—and those who opposed them were silenced.

Especially during the late ’80s and early ’90s, incidents like this were all too common.

Amid the growing dread came the nervous announcement of the train conductor: "Attention, passengers! Attention, passengers! A large wave of thieves is heading this way. Please guard your valuables, luggage, and possessions. I’ll repeat: guard your valuables, luggage, and possessions. A large wave of thieves is heading this way..."

"Tian Sangsang!" Zhao Chun suddenly shoved the bag of expensive clothes at her and barked, "Move to the side!"

Zhao Chun’s seat was near the aisle, while Tian Sangsang sat by the window. She didn’t have time to respond before Zhao Chun pushed her out of the aisle seat.

Then he called out sharply, "Chen Wan, you sit with Sangsang."

"Chief, what about you..." At times like this, sitting by the window was dangerous.

There was no time for lengthy discussions—panic had already spread throughout the train car.

Some children were so frightened they started crying loudly and inconsolably, their wails grating on everyone’s nerves.

"What do we do? The thieves are coming."

"There are robbers!"

"Where’s the police?!"

"Hey, you stepped on my foot!"

Cries of "Ow!" and "Oh no!" filled the cabin. A few timid passengers even collapsed to the ground in terror.

"Calm down! Everyone, stay quiet! It’ll be okay!" Two train police officers tried to maintain order, standing uniformly and bracing themselves with stern looks. The problem was, there were only two policemen—and at least dozens of thieves.

"Attention, passengers! Attention, passengers, at this very moment..." Before the train conductor could finish, his voice ended in a sudden scream. Two robbers had already kicked in the door.

And not just that—others started smashing the windows with blunt objects.

The train was initially crowded and cramped, leaving passengers with nowhere to hide.

Both inside and outside the doors, chaos broke out.

It was Tian Sangsang’s first time encountering such a situation. She’d be lying if she said she wasn’t scared. Forcing herself to stay calm, she heard a sharp "crash" as the glass beside Zhao Chun shattered.

Two hands reached inside, trying to snatch packages.

"Watch out." Shards of glass fell onto the table and seats, and Tian Sangsang instinctively pulled Zhao Chun’s arm.

"Damn you!" Zhao Chun shouted as the thief yanked at one of his packages. But the thief hadn’t realized it was a tripod—that effectively became Zhao Chun’s weapon. With it, Zhao Chun jabbed the thief, pushing him back several steps.

"Silence! No one move!" Four robbers stormed in, brandishing knives and axes. They snarled viciously, "Hand over all the money!"

"What do you think you’re doing?! Get out! Don’t rob us!" The two police officers reacted immediately upon seeing the thieves, their veins bulging with anger as they lunged forward.

The two sides engaged in a scuffle—but the officers were quickly overwhelmed. After all, they were outnumbered.

Tian Sangsang watched nervously. Actually, in situations like this, it was better to stabilize the scene first; fighting wasn’t wise. With so many passengers in such a confined space, the robbers might unleash their brutality, increasing passenger injuries.

Indeed, one passenger’s right arm was slashed immediately, blood gushing out in a horrifying display.

Amid the rising chaos, three gunshots suddenly rang out—"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Gunshots!

Tian Sangsang snapped her head around. The man in the black trench coat was now holding a gun, its muzzle slightly steaming.

"Police! Everyone stop!" his companion ordered sharply, pulling a badge from his pocket.

"Damn it, cops..."

"What’s there to be afraid of? Just two of them, that’s all."

The leader, a burly man with a beard, sneered and wiped his mouth before shouting, "Brothers, take them down!"

The man in the trench coat curled his lips coldly. Swift and ruthless, he moved before the robbers could react.

In one fluid motion, he raised his foot and delivered a brutal kick to the belly of the nearest thief. As another moved to retaliate, he sent him flying against the train window, where he passed out.

A third robber swung a punch at him, but the trench coat man dodged nimbly, gripping the attacker’s wrist before slamming his fist into the man’s face. Pivoting, he ducked to evade an ambush from behind and brought the butt of his gun down hard on the thief’s head, leaving him dazed. His moves were precise and mercilessly efficient—better than any professional cop!

Tian Sangsang’s eyes followed that dark figure closely. Three robbers were subdued in rapid succession, and his companion at the door had already taken down several others.

Seeing these two formidable opponents, the remaining robbers fled in all directions.

Inside the train car, only two robbers were left. They confronted the trench coat man in a fierce struggle.

The smell of blood permeated the air, making Tian Sangsang furrow her brows. Following the scent, she realized the slashed passenger was now lying in a pool of blood.

His arm had a deep wound, blood spilling incessantly. At this rate, he could go into shock.

Yet, despite the urgency, no one around dared to help him under the ongoing threat posed by the robbers and the trench coat man.

In the corner, the injured man’s face grew paler by the second. His lips quivered as his unfocused eyes turned pleadingly toward her.

Tian Sangsang grabbed a pair of scissors and carefully weaved her way through the crowd to his side. Quick and nimble, she cut off the water sleeve of her garment. "Bear with me. I’ll find a doctor for you soon."

She used the fabric to bind his arm wound. Even so, the bleeding didn’t stop.

She considered whether to take out some pills or medicine—but with so many people watching...

Before she could decide, she felt someone violently yank her up. A sharp knife pressed coldly against her neck.

"Sangsang!"

"Sangsang-jie!"

Several terrified voices erupted in panic.
