Chapter 289 She’s Really Tired
Gong Xiaoyu looked at the ring on her hand, feeling a mix of emotions.
She didn’t know if what she was doing was right or wrong; she just knew it would ease her family’s worries.
After three years with Yue Xiaoyang, she was really tired; she needed a support.
Thinking back on all the laughter and tears over these three years, she had indeed been happy, but also desperate.
When they first got together, she had great hopes for their future. She had always been a good girl, and for him, she started lying to her family constantly.
"Mom, I’ve temporarily let my employees live in my place at Xia Pan Coast, so don’t go there for now, otherwise they’ll feel uncomfortable."
After they established their relationship, Zhang Miaoyan, who lived at Yue Xiaoyang’s house, couldn’t find a new place to move to temporarily, so Yue Xiaoyang shamelessly moved in with her. Afraid that her family would find out, she kept making up lies.
Mrs. Gong didn’t mind too much, "Alright, it’s not like our family is short of houses."
He Mengya chimed in with a mocking tone, "The new house that Mom and Dad haven’t even stayed in is already given to employees as a dorm. Being a boss and still not considering your family, yet bragging outside about being so filial—what a joke."
Gong Xiaoyu glared at her, considering He Mengya was still on medication for controlling her emotions, she didn’t argue further.
Seeing Gong Xiaoyu’s glare, He Mengya wouldn’t relent, "What, did I say something wrong about you?"
Gong Tianfan couldn’t take it anymore, "Can you stop making a scene for one day? We’re not lacking places to stay. This house that Xiao Yu bought with her own money should be her business. If you’re capable, buy one yourself."
He Mengya threw a cup at him, "You’re insulting me?"
Gong Tianfan got hit on the arm and shouted, "He Mengya, if you keep acting like this, do you believe I will..."
He Mengya, lifting her chin defiantly, "What are you going to do? Divorce me and go find An Junxi? Stop dreaming! An Junxi hooked up with President Gu, she doesn’t even remember who you are!"
Thinking about Xiao Jun still brought pain to Gong Tianfan’s heart. He had seen them together on the street, President Gu tall and handsome, tender and considerate to her—she was very happy now.
He used to think he would be the one to make her happy.
"What are you arguing about now?" Father Gong couldn’t stand the incessant bickering, saying, "Tianfan, you two move out. Let your mother and me have some peace."
The Gong family had been scholarly for generations. They never thought they would end up with such a daughter-in-law as this.
Gong Tianfan remained silent. Asking him to stay alone with her, he would rather lose twenty years of his life.
He blamed himself for making mistakes; otherwise, he wouldn’t be in this predicament.
Gong Xiaoyu also didn’t want to stay home anymore, "I’m going back to the office. I won’t be home tonight."
Mrs. Gong sighed, marrying the wrong woman had turned the house into chaos; truly a family misfortune.
Gong Xiaoyu returned to the company. Jun Xi had resigned not long ago. Lin Yuanqing, who took Jun Xi’s position, asked her about everything, making Gong Xiaoyu somewhat exhausted. She was really reluctant to see Jun Xi leave Si Yuan, but Jun Xi had now found her own happiness. She couldn’t be so selfish as to hold her back.
She worked overtime at the company until late at night. Yue Xiaoyang came to bring her food, "I can’t let my girlfriend go hungry. No matter how big the deal, you have to eat first."
Gong Xiaoyu enjoyed his care. That night, they slept in the large house, Yue Xiaoyang, sweating, held her and said, "Xiao Yu, I love you."
Gong Xiaoyu believed he was telling the truth, but his love was still not enough to last a lifetime with her.
The first time Yue Xiaoyang disappointed Gong Xiaoyu was in an afternoon shopping mall.
That day, they shopped like a typical couple for daily necessities. Yue Xiaoyang knew all her preferences, understood all her habits, and picked out items of her usual brands.
Gong Xiaoyu held his arm, watching him intently differentiate between day and night sanitary napkins, the comfort levels of thickness and thinness. The passing young girls whispered admiringly, "So handsome! So considerate and thoughtful towards his girlfriend. This girl is really lucky!"
Gong Xiaoyu smiled. She really was very happy with him, to the extent that it felt almost unreal.
His family was in business, but he had graduated in medicine. As a renowned doctor, Young Master Yue applied his professional expertise in life, caring for her in every detail. Even a minor cold would have him staying home all day instead of going to work.
Young Master Yue had been pampered since childhood, but after being with her, he learned to take care of her, from cooking simple tomato and egg noodles to brewing health soups. During her special days each month, he wouldn’t even let her touch cold water, even hand-washing her intimate clothes himself.
There seemed to be not a single flaw, except there was no commitment.
This made Gong Xiaoyu uneasy. She confided in Jun Xi, who advised her not to rush, to let him get used to life with her, and that marriage would follow naturally.
She thought it made sense and tried not to pressure him, avoiding talks about the future, only savoring the present happiness with him.
With each day they spent together, she felt more like they were a married couple, becoming more emotionally attached to him and more afraid of losing him.
He would visit his parents for a few days each month, leaving her alone in the large house. She would often wake up in fear at night, scared that he had already left.
Sometimes she berated herself, knowing that she was an independent and strong modern woman but always showing her most vulnerable side in front of him.
One day, she was alone in the villa, and a heavy storm hit at midnight. Thunder and lightning flashed outside. The windows were not closed, allowing cold wind and rain to blow inside. Gong Xiaoyu, terrified of thunder since childhood, didn’t dare get out of bed to close the window, covering her ears like an ostrich, hiding under the blanket.
Yue Xiaoyang had gone home to celebrate his mother’s birthday. She resisted calling him, afraid he would drive over in the rain, knowing how dangerous it was to drive in such weather.
Gong Xiaoyu tried to hypnotize herself, telling herself the rain and thunder were no big deal, praying that the storm would soon pass.
But the rain seemed to be deliberately against her, falling harder and harder. The blanket on the bed was getting soaked, and the sound of raindrops hitting the windowpanes terrified Gong Xiaoyu. Finally, the storm calmed a little, and Gong Xiaoyu got out of bed to close the window.
As she emerged from the blanket, she suddenly heard the sound of something breaking in the living room.
Gong Xiaoyu’s hair stood on end. Could there be a thief in the house?
She had heard that burglars often struck during thunderstorms because it was not easy to be detected.
She thought that such a high-security villa area like Xia Pan Coast should be able to prevent burglars.
Uneasy, she reached for the alarm clock by the bed as a weapon but realized it might be useless. She then took out her phone to call Yue Xiaoyang. Just as she did, the door to the room suddenly opened.
At that moment, a flash of lightning lit up the sky. Cold wind blew into the room, making the curtains flutter, reminding Gong Xiaoyu of a horror movie she had seen before.
She screamed in fear. The shadow in the doorway quickly approached her, and she heard a familiar voice say, "Don’t be afraid, it’s me."
Gong Xiaoyu froze for a moment, then Yue Xiaoyang hugged her tightly.
