Chapter 282: Long Night Ahead, Missing My Wife
An Junxi returned to her room, she sat on the big bed, thinking about the nightmare just now, still feeling uncomfortable.
She finally couldn’t resist calling him; it was almost midnight over there, did he go to sleep?
The phone rang for just a moment before he picked it up, his voice still so familiar, "Xi Xi."
An Junxi’s tears immediately rolled down; she really wanted to see him now.
She hadn’t called out his name yet when she heard He Sirui’s voice calling him.
An Junxi’s longing instantly froze and shattered; it was so late, and they were still together.
Have they been sleeping together these past few days?
She hurriedly hung up the phone, no wonder he didn’t want to answer, with a beauty like He Sirui by his side, how could he remember her?
An Junxi sobbed uncontrollably; the thing she feared most had still happened.
Gu Yikun called back, but An Junxi didn’t answer.
What excuse does he want to give her, or maybe he doesn’t need an excuse at all, just tell her directly that he’s annoyed with her now.
She threw the phone aside, and it kept ringing until dawn. She finally picked it up, ready to make things clear; she would accept any outcome.
Gu Yikun said anxiously, "Xi Xi, you finally answered the phone. Don’t misunderstand. There’s nothing between me and He Sirui. She’s not in my room, really."
An Junxi said nothing, and Gu Yikun continued to explain, "I didn’t know you called me. Don’t be mad; I’ll be back soon. When I get home, you can do anything you want. I’ll try to avoid seeing her in the future, and the same with other women."
Not hearing An Junxi’s voice, Gu Yikun stepped out onto the balcony to feel the cold wind, "It was wrong of me not to tell you about this business trip. Xi Xi, you can’t keep kicking me out of the room whenever there’s a misunderstanding. Let’s talk things out. It’s been tough getting you back by my side. We’ve already wasted two years, missed out on too much. I hope we won’t continue to distrust each other."
Gu Yikun kept talking, and from his voice, An Junxi could imagine how flustered he must be.
Her heart slowly warmed, she chose to believe him.
With his character, if he really had a change of heart, how could he still be saying these things to her?
She wiped her tears, opened her mouth to speak but coughed instead, then she put down the phone and grabbed a few tissues from the bedside, sneezing several times in a row.
Gu Yikun asked worriedly, "Are you sick? Xi Xi, say something."
It took An Junxi a while to pick up the phone again, "It’s nothing, just a little cold."
Gu Yikun heard her voice changing; it didn’t seem like a little cold, "When did you start feeling unwell, did you kick off the covers while sleeping and catch a cold? Did you see a doctor? What did the doctor say?" He couldn’t stop worrying, having left home for just a few days, and she already fell ill.
An Junxi held a pillow, sniffing, "It’s been a few days, Doctor Gao came by, the IV helped a lot."
Knowing she’d been sick for days, Gu Yikun turned around and started packing, "I’ll come back to the country right now."
He blamed himself for arguing with her, realizing she’d been sick for days without him checking on her. She must have felt so heartbroken at home.
"You don’t need to rush back..."
An Junxi spoke too hastily and started coughing again, making Gu Yikun ache with sorrow, wishing he could be the one who was sick instead.
"Where’s Aunt He? How did she take care of you? Does the room have warm water? Remember not to drink cold water, don’t turn on the air conditioner. I’ll ask Secretary Wang to arrange a private jet to return home."
An Junxi took a sip of water, "I’m fine, you don’t need to rush back. Finish your work first; I know you’re very concerned about this project."
Gu Yikun felt even worse, hearing An Junxi still being considerate of him.
He had blamed her for being unreasonable, yet he was the one who caused her sadness despite promising to take care of her for a lifetime.
Gu Yikun truly wished he could be by her side, "Xi Xi, how can any project be more important than you?"
Hearing those words, An Junxi’s tears, which had just stopped, fell again. Thinking of their recent estrangement, she spoke with a tearful voice, "Yi Ke, I..." she choked, unable to finish the sentence.
Gu Yikun felt a tug at his heart, "Are you crying? Don’t cry, it’s my fault. I wasn’t patient enough with you, making you upset."
An Junxi tightly gripped the pillow, "It’s not your fault, it’s mine for always losing my temper. You’re busy at the office, and when you get home, I still vent my anger at you without properly talking to you. It’s my fault."
She had thought about it these past few days, and indeed, there was a problem with her attitude towards him.
All Gu Yikun wanted now was to hold her, "Xi Xi, wait for me to come back."
"Yi Ke."
"Hmm?"
"I miss you."
Gu Yikun’s heart instantly softened; it was rare for her to show how much she needed him.
He said, "Have a good sleep, I’ll be home in the afternoon." After a pause, he added, "I miss you too, very much."
Seeing An Junxi’s complexion improve slightly, she said, "I thought you didn’t love me anymore, that you’d fallen for someone else."
"How could I? I’ll only love you; you have to trust me."
An Junxi’s doubts completely dissipated, "Finish your work and then come back; I’ll wait for you."
Gu Yikun thought of the resort and some matters that needed following up. This project was absolutely crucial, and he wasn’t comfortable entrusting it to anyone else, but there was someone waiting for him at home... he felt torn.
An Junxi reassured him, "Dad and mom can come help take care of Ai Xi. We still have Aunt He and Xiao Luo at home, don’t worry."
Gu Yikun said, "Give me another day then, I’ll come back tomorrow."
"Alright, it’s late over there. Get some rest."
Gu Yikun said, "I want to video call to see you." She was feeling so sick; how could he sleep?
An Junxi touched the bandage on her forehead, knowing that if he saw her injury, he would rush back.
"No, I look terrible right now, my eyes are so swollen."
"You’re always beautiful, how could you look terrible?"
"No way, I didn’t sleep well last night, and I’m tired."
Gu Yikun heard her say she was tired and didn’t insist, "Okay, get a good sleep then."
"You sleep early too."
"Hmm." He didn’t hang up the call.
An Junxi waited for a while and didn’t hear him hang up, "What’s wrong?"
"I’m waiting for you to hang up first," he said, turning into a clingy child.
With a smile on her face, An Junxi said, "Ai Xi’s daddy, I love you."
After saying that, her heart raced a bit, and she quickly hung up the phone.
Gu Yikun stared at the phone screen, wondering if he heard wrong, regretting he hadn’t recorded the call, so he could listen to it later.
With a silly smile, he lay on the big bed and opened the WeChat chat interface, sending An Junxi a kiss emoji, then stared at the phone, waiting for her reply.
Though they were married and had children, his current feelings were as nervous as a young man in love for the first time.
After about two minutes, An Junxi replied with a heart emoji.
Gu Yikun finally put down his phone contentedly and went to sleep.
An Junxi also went back to sleep for a while. When she woke up and checked her phone, she saw a headline, "The Supreme Royal Dog Food from President Gu, Have You Had It?"
She clicked in, seeing many major media outlets reposting and tagging President Gu’s Weibo, "This dog food came unexpectedly, sincere congratulations to President Gu."
"The vibe switched so fast, where did the cool and domineering president go?"
An Junxi rarely looked at Gu Yikun’s Weibo; he was very private and had posted barely any Weibo messages in over thirty years.
Seeing the Weibo content, she felt feverish again.
At one in the morning, Gu Yikun boldly wrote on Weibo, "The long night is endless, missing my wife," accompanied by a picture of their intertwined fingers.
The photo revealed the bed sheet; his hand had sweat, and in the comment section, all the netizens turned into Sherlock Holmes. The top-liked comment was, "Judging by the room, the light wasn’t on. President Gu even enjoys exercising in broad daylight; that’s impressive!"
