Chapter 274: The Distance Grows Further
Liang Huiyun muttered a couple of sentences and then fell silent; she was also afraid that her son would get angry.
Gu Kuangyuan, listening on the side, didn’t express any opinion. Indeed, the sister-in-law was making a fuss over nothing. Which young madam doesn’t go shopping and buy things? Yi Ke certainly can afford it.
Now hearing An Junxi call to ask for help, Gu Kuangyuan was quite surprised. "What is it that Yi Ke can’t handle and needs my help?"
An Junxi said, "I need a dress for a gala, it’s urgent. Aunt, can you come over and look after Ai Xi?"
"Sure," Gu Kuangyuan didn’t hesitate. She hadn’t played with that little bundle of joy in a long time. "Are you and Yi Ke going to a gala? Why are you looking for me so urgently?" Clothes for an event should have been prepared days ago.
"It’s a long story. I’ll wait for you at home and explain later."
"Okay."
Gu Kuangyuan hung up the phone and opened her phone to browse through pictures of clothes in the studio. She sent two outfits to her assistant, asking them to deliver them to An Junxi right away.
Cheng Ye, who was beside her, asked, "Are you going out?"
Gu Kuangyuan apologized, "Yi Ke and Jun Xi are going to a gala, and Aunt He has a hard time soothing Ai Xi. I need to go watch the child."
Cheng Ye said, "I’ll go with you."
Gu Kuangyuan felt a bit troubled; she wasn’t ready to tell the family about their relationship yet.
Seeing her reluctance, Cheng Ye’s tone changed, "Am I still someone who can’t be seen?"
Gu Kuangyuan sat close to him, "It’s not that, I’m just not ready yet."
Cheng Ye stood up and carried the bowls to the kitchen. "Fine."
Gu Kuangyuan followed behind him, "Are you angry?"
"No."
"You’re not looking at me."
Cheng Ye was washing his hands at the sink, then turned around and said, "Finish your meal first."
Gu Kuangyuan went back to continue eating, and Cheng Ye walked past the dining room heading to the study, unlike usual where he would wait for her to finish eating.
She ate a few bites casually and went to call him, "Let’s go to Jun Xi’s place together."
Cheng Ye was indeed a bit unhappy. He was sitting with a book, and even though she changed her mind, he didn’t cheer up. "Next time, when you’re ready."
Gu Kuangyuan hugged him from behind and said, "It’s now. Going or not? Don’t regret it later."
Cheng Ye, without any spine, said, "Going."
Gu Kuangyuan kissed him on the lips, and Cheng Ye picked up the toys he had bought for Ai Xi; he had already prepared a gift.
They arrived downstairs at the apartment, where Gu Kuangyuan’s assistant was waiting with two dresses.
After checking the clothes, Gu Kuangyuan said, "Good, thank you."
They went upstairs together. When An Junxi saw her aunt and Cheng Ye together, before Gu Kuangyuan could introduce them, she said, "Should I call him uncle now?"
An Junxi knew they had some history, but didn’t know when they got together.
Cheng Ye, with a serious face, said, "Calling me uncle is fine."
Gu Kuangyuan told him not to joke around, "We’re not married yet!"
Cheng Ye immediately asked, "When do you want to get married?"
Gu Kuangyuan shyly pushed his arm, "Let’s not talk about this now."
Cheng Ye reached out to rub her head, "As long as you want to marry, I’ll marry you."
An Junxi watched with a bit of envy. Her aunt was very independent and rational, always distant in front of others. Despite being a few years younger, Cheng Ye could pamper her like a child.
This must be what love looks like.
She started to doubt if her relationship with Yi Ke was as unbreakable as she thought.
Gu Aixi had never seen Cheng Ye before. This little elf saw Cheng Ye coming in with her grandma and flashed a dimpled smile at him, "Uncle."
Cheng Ye, a tough guy, was utterly captured and tried to pick up Ai Xi, Gu Jinxiu joined them, "Brother Cheng, I’ll teach you how to hold my sister."
Cheng Ye praised him, "Jinxiu, you’re so considerate."
Gu Jinxiu said, "Of course, I’m the big brother now."
Gu Kuangyuan asked Aunt He to watch them play while she and An Junxi went upstairs to do makeup.
Watching his grandma go upstairs, Gu Jinxiu directly asked, "Brother Cheng, do you like my grandma?"
Cheng Ye found it difficult to answer, "You’re so young, what do you know about liking someone?"
"Like how my dad treats my mom! Who doesn’t know?"
Cheng Ye cleared his throat, "Hmm." Acknowledging it.
Gu Jinxiu was very excited, "When you get married, I want to invite Ai Er over. Ai Er is my friend from summer camp."
Cheng Ye raised an eyebrow, feeling that these kids were too proactive. In comparison, he felt quite unsuccessful.
After changing into her dress, An Junxi looked satisfied. Gu Kuangyuan teasingly said, "I still prefer you as my model. Your figure is even better after having a child, rarely seen."
Since being with Cheng Ye, An Junxi noticed that her aunt had become more energetic and didn’t talk as lifelessly as before.
Looking at herself in the mirror, the dress was somewhat sexy. Appearing at the gala like this, she shouldn’t embarrass him, right?
How would he react upon seeing her there uninvited?
An Junxi suddenly felt a rebellious urge. He always told her to be obedient and not to worry him.
She was so obedient; that’s why he didn’t pay much attention to her.
She truly felt the distance between them growing.
As Gu Kuangyuan was doing her makeup, she noticed An Junxi seemed preoccupied and asked, "Why didn’t Yi Ke wait to leave with you?" Yi Ke was typically a textbook example of a doting husband, and this was out of character.
An Junxi lightly said, "He had to meet a client and worried I’d get bored arriving too early."
Of course, Gu Kuangyuan didn’t believe this excuse. Without pressing further, she sincerely praised An Junxi after finishing the makeup, "Tonight, you’re bound to be the most beautiful one there."
An Junxi didn’t have time to admire her look. She picked up her clutch, taking only a few essentials, "I’m heading out now. Please take care of Ai Xi."
"No need for such polite words, we’re family."
Going downstairs, An Junxi told Ai Xi, "Mommy’s going to find Daddy, you stay and play with Grandma, okay?"
Gu Aixi was easy to handle this time, readily bidding mommy goodbye.
She asked Jinxiu to help look after his sister. Then, An Junxi got into the family car and told Xiao Liu, "To the Queen’s Restaurant."
The restaurant’s opulent lobby echoed with the soothing sound of a violin. Gentlemen and elegant ladies mingled among the tables. He Sirui stood beside Gu Yikun, conversing fluently with a Frenchman, looking both confident and charming in her meticulously chosen attire.
Gu Yikun occasionally said a word or two, glancing at his watch impatiently, not really keen on staying.
How was she doing at home? By the time he got back, she and their daughter would probably be asleep.
He Sirui’s meticulous dress and makeup drew unanimous praise for her combination of intelligence and beauty. Many men couldn’t help but stare, yet the only one oblivious to her transformation was Gu Yikun.
Many around them were just waiting for a chance to speak with President Gu when he finally had a free moment.
Gatherings of people inevitably give rise to gossip. Several socialites whispered among themselves, "Why did President Gu come with He Group’s heiress? Weren’t there rumors they secretly married? So why didn’t he bring his wife?"
One voice responded sarcastically, "President Gu never made his wife public. There wasn’t even a wedding ceremony. Heard she must have a child first to marry into the Gu Family. Could it be she’s too ugly to be seen?"
